Despite a report by TMZ revealing that Lisa Wu Hartwell and husband Ed Hartwell had their home foreclosed, Lisa is now denying the foreclosure to People magazine. We were “not evicted, it was a short-sell. It was not a foreclosure,” says Lisa.
Lisa, 38, continues, “It was decision that we made and not one that was made for us. But we were not put out.” As for the TMZ report that the couple defaulted on their bank loan, she re-affirms that an attempt to restructure the loan “didn’t work out.” Lisa claims, “we chose to move, we were not evicted.”
It seems short-sell is what they’re calling foreclosures nowadays. I take it she “chose” to move after receiving notification of a foreclosure from her bank. Even her rep confirmed the foreclosure story yesterday. Plus TMZ has documents confirming the story.
Lisa however admits her family has moved into a new “downsized” home in a neighboring community due to the pressure of the recession. This clashes with the comment her rep made yesterday, saying the couple has moved into a new home sitting on 10 acres. Not sure how 10 acres is downsizing.

Short selling is a little different from foreclosing. What I don’t understand is where are all those loan mods we keep hearing about?
Lisa has problems with the truth from what little I’ve seen of her, so I wouldn’t take what she says as gospel.
I mean, I watched her orchestrate the feud between NeNe and Kim by telling Sheree about NeNe singing in the limo and then she denied ever repeating anything and even declared that she’s the peacemaker of the group. My ever-widening ass, she is.
Lisa is as much a gold-digger and as pretentious as Kim and the rest of that group. Her only claim to fame is the rich and famous men she’s been married to.
THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SHORT SALE AND A FORECLOSURE, I READ THAT IT WAS PUBLICLY AUCTIONED IF SO THATS USUALLY A FORECLOSED HOME. BUT IF IT WERE A PRIVATE AUCTION, I COULD SEE IT BIENG A SHORT SELL.
Who cares if it was a short sell or foreclosured? People all across America is having problems finanically. I’m pretty sure half of you all know what I am talking about. People lose their jobs so at least they have a roof over their heads and a beautiful family to show for.
Short Sale is where the bank will take less than the property is worth (or you paid) and you are allowed to sell the property (for a lesser value) but you get no profit from the sale. There is no blemish on your credit record from this. Foreclosure–your credit takes a hit and you do get put out if you don’t get out when they tell–and they will have a company come and throw you stuff out. Then the bank auctions off your house. Either way, it is NOT your choice–it is the banks. It is just a matter of how nice the bank is about it. You move either way. If Ed and Lisa moved, they moved to another mortgage.
I find it interesting that in the first season, DeShawn moved into her custom-built dream house. However, her husband was injured and retired and she is now gone from the show. This season, we saw Sheree have to move because she lost her house, NeNe moved into a new house and now Lisa had to move. The only one who still lives in the same house is Kim–in a townhouse. With Kim’s split from Big Papa and her singing career on hold, will she be the next Hotlanta Housewife on the move?
I don’t understand why all the judgments on these women, well specifically Lisa. So many Americans are having tough times. Lisa and her husband mentioned they were trying to do things because their real estate company was feeling the economic crunch so they were doing the clothing line in an attempt to make the financial crunch less painful. She was honest, on air about that, and this was taped long ago. And a short sale IS the homeowner selling the home before foreclosing procedings take place. They basically sell for little or no profit or even below the mortgage and then they have to come up with funds to the mortgage company. Still, it’s the responsible thing to do, as opposed to filing bankrupt and getting a free pass as so many are doing. I say good for them for stepping up and doing the right thing!
KIM however, who lays on a table to get her fat heated and redistributed and “just gives them her card”…and when asked how much it costs…”I don’t know, $3,000.” I bet you anything she doesn’t have ONE DOLLAR put away for her kids college! And then she proceded to brag about not exercising. What a roll model for her children. Let’s be lazy, have a married man in your life of and on for years and have them support your lifestyle and then wow…I guess it’s apparent where they got their patience. She laid on the table….getting bored and impatient, proceded to call her daughters and asked “how was your day?” and her daughters responses were “boring” and she got upset with those answers. I wonder where they get their temperment. Apple doesn’t fall from the tree now does it Kim!!! Now that’s where some much deserved judgment (and critical judgment I might add) needs to be placed. She is a poor excuse of a ….man…fill in the blank!

Mary when a home is put on the market on a short sale it’s because the mortgagor is usually in arrears on their payments. The bank agrees to allow the home to be sold for X number of dollars but they will come after the original mortgagor for the balance unless they’ve PREVIOUSLY agreed not to do so. With lates on the mortgage there IS A HIT on their credit. The bank isn’t going to forgive a note, they’ll file a judgement for the balance in a NY minute. If there are more than three 30 day lates on a mortgage payment you can pretty much forget purchasing a home again for at least two years.
Mary, NeNe and Greg were also EVICTED for non-payment, Sheree’s home was FORECLOSED and now Lisa’s home is FORECLOSED. Kandi and Kim are the only two that are stable………..for the moment.
Kandi seems like the only normal, self made woman on this show. She is also the only woman who did not need a man for money. She is my favorite, hands down. She is classy too, doesn’t talk trash or get in the mud with the rest of them.
Leila, thank you for correcting Mary’s previous message that a short sell doesn’t effect your credit. People obviously don’t understand a short sell. I studied real estate as a possible career change a few years ago and especially researched short sells. A short sell is when you can no longer afford your house and the last measure of negotiation with the bank is this option. You are asking the bank to take less in price than what you originally paid for the home. In order for this to happen you MUST have a Notice of Default – meaning you haven’t paid your mortgage in at least 3 months – and you MUST provide documents know as “Financial Hardship” this is where you detailed why you can no longer afford the home. Remember you are asking the bank to take a loss on the home so it’s essential you justify your finances so they have proof you can’t afford to pay the mortgage. Also this will ruin your credit for years because your FICO report is formulated by 33% credit history, 33% debt to credit ratio (how much credit extended verses how much used), and 33% timely payments to your creditors. Whoever’s name the house was listed under, Lisa, Ed, or both, their credit is ruined for years.
From my research, here is what I think happened. In the past 5 years many people took out Adjustable Rate Mortgages (ARMS) and Interest Only loans (60% home loans in California from 2005-2007 were from these type of loans). With these loans your interest will inevitably adjust — and adjust BIG! Lisa and Ed, along with other Housewives, took out these loans and when the rates adjusted they could no longer afford their homes. Their inability to predict the change in the real estate market – YES, you can predict the market – and economy lead to them make a bad financial decision. The sad part is Lisa, and other Real Housewives in similar situation, are real estate brokers/agents. They should have known better. I predicted this change in the real estate market 4 years ago, just through basic research and I am not a real estate professional.
My biggest issue with them is they are trying to justify the short sell by saying it was due to the decreased value in their home.

I don’t understand why so many of you come off as being angry with Lisa or the housewives for that matter. While thwy all have faults and areas in which they have issues, we do to. He who are without issues cast the first blog I say. Who cares why they are no longer in their homes or about their financial status what does that have to do with uws. It is so easy to point out the problems of others but when the shoes are on your feet many of you are ready to curse someone out. Come on, forclosure or short sell, what does it matter? They are in a home and are not on the streets.
It seems to me they were trying to live above their means. This was a home they had built for them, so regardless of the fact that Lisa claim the value of the home went way down, why sell it before giving the market/economy a chance to improve? I believe she is lying on why they no longer have the home. They were in over their heads with the overhead expense of this home… her husband is no longer worker, the real estate market is down, and as far as her baby clothing line, jewelry collection, and new women clothing line, I’m sure sells are extremely low because nothing I’ve seen is impressive.
Kandi seems like the nicest Person on the show.She is a self made Women also the only one does not talk trash.She is classy, all the other Girls should learn from her.

I think some people are being a bit judgemental. So what does it really matter if it was a SHORT SELL or FORECLOSURE. The economy is in a shamble. I’m sure some of us that aren’t on a reality show, have felt the crunch AND are dealing with some hardships here & there. The only difference is Lisa’s troubles are made public. Give the girl a break !? We ALL make mistakes. I would never want to be on a reality show. Your privacy goes out the window.
QUESTION : Why was it SO important to reveal their financial woes anyway. Let’s just enjoy the damned show !
APPLEMARTINI, when women like Lisa signed up to be a Bravo ‘Housewife’, they chose to put themselves out before the public come what may. Part of the persona some, like Lisa, presented as a Housewife was that they were fabulously rich, living in amazing mansions, shopping to their hearts’ desire, money being no object. So when the rug is pulled out from under them and it’s discovered they are living far beyond their means, it is fair game that it be reported.
You reasonably posit that “the only difference is Lisa’a troubles are made public”. That is correct. She has “chosen” to live publicly in hopes of a big return. She enjoys the publicity that has made it possible for her to publicize her own clothes line in a big way that wouldn’t have happened without the show. Along with the good publicity comes the bad, and I’m sure she understood this when she signed up to put herself out there. If Lisa didn’t like it, she wouldn’t have signed up for another season.
Reality tv is not always real, hard times hit everyone, I’ve been there, but I always tell people look, I’m having a hard time right now. For instance, I lost my job a year ago due to illness and have not had a job since and my home and other things were jeopardized. I was offered to either sale, or capitalize the interest or double payments in order avoid foreclosure, why because I was behind in payments. Lisa keeps saying it was a short-sale, OK fine, but why? Just tell the truth and shame the devil, it doesn’t make you any less of a person. If it wasn’t for Ed’s injury, you guys would still be paying your bills as you were. This is life, God can give it all back. I’m still going through. The greater the test, the greater the blessing. I still have a roof over my head, transportation, and food etc.
Lisa needs to stop lying. Regardless of whether she moved out by her own consent. If a person does a short sale, you have to be in pre-foreclosure status to qualify for a short sale. Either way, she was foreclosed on!!!
