Scotty IS the new American Idol!
In the season finale of American Idol the country showdown between finalists Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery finally came to an end as a new idol, Scotty was confetti’d! Last night was a show-stopping affair filled with amazing duets, the return of the eliminated idols, a whole slew of celebrity performances, and tons celebs in the audience (did I see Maria Shriver?). A record-breaking 122 MILLION votes were cast nationwide to determine the Season 10 winner.
The all-star line up of celebrity performances (including two from our esteemed judges – more on Jennifer Lopez’s later) featured: Beyonce, Tony Bennett, Lil Jon - fresh off ANOTHER reality show, the resurrected TLC, Tom Jones, Bono and The Edge, and judge Steven Tyler. Kicking off the celebrity duets was James Durbin, A.I.’s metal king in a crazy performance with Judas Priest. James definitely has the perfect voice for metal, but whatever he was wearing looked more at home in The Village People! Jacob Lusk, who Ryan Seacrest accurately described “took us to church” this season performed “I Smile” with Kurt Franklin and Gladys Knight. I have to say when he is in his genre Jacob’s voice is amazing! Casey Abrams returned with his celebrity soulmate Jack Black!! They were so hilarious. Their rendition of Queen’s “Fat Bottomed Girls” was my favorite performance of the night.
Lauren and Scotty performed duets with two of country music’s biggest stars. It was Country Superstar meets Country Beiber in a show-stopping duet with Tim McGraw and Scotty singing “Live Like You Were Dying.” Lauren took the stage with her idol and former Idol winner Carrie Underwood for a performance of “Before He Cheats.” We also met Lauren’s and Scotty’s high school music teachers – who were so cute and so excited to be there – they were both gifted a new Ford Focus!
Marc Anthony, husband of J.Lo, also gave a performance, which surprise! featured his wife. And I have to say I was blown away by J.Lo – and not in a good way. Her portion of the performance consisted of booty jiggling, gyrating, butt thrusting, weave tossing dirty dancing while wearing a fringed leotard. J. Lo – too much. Too, too much. Also, in a booty gyrating, inappropriate for prime-time performance was Lady Gaga wearing an outfit that was 90’s Madonna meets Bret Michaels, who simulated s.e.x. and suicide in the most annoyingly repetitive song I’ve ever heard. I was on the edge too, Gaga – on the edge of extremely annoyed! Oh, for DVR at that moment so I could fast forward.
Finally, the winner was announced and the newest American Idol is: SCOTTY MCCREERY! The country cutie from North Carolina took the prize! Scotty performed his new single “I Love You This Big” (which my friend’s sister dubbed the Barney – as in purple dinosaur – song). Scotty was so choked up after the big win that he could hardly get through the song. During the touching performance he hugged his entire family – but forgot to hug Jack Black who was sitting next to his family. Congratulations Scotty –you were superb from day one – you have a fan in me. Also, congratulations to Lauren for a fantastic season with many outstanding performances. And following last night’s finale, many are now wondering today if Scotty and Lauren are dating? No clear answer on that yet but what do you think?

I don’t usually watch idol but have to say the entertainment last night was kick-ass. And was actually happy to see J-Lo dance since her dancing is so much better than her singing & acting & that don’t say a lot….
Come on Mary, JLo’s performance was awesome! That’s Salsa ! No one better to perform it than Marc Anthony! I thought the whole show was great…until U2. How boring have they become in their later years?!?!
Okay….did Scotty tell Lauren ” Love you baby”? They kissed too. What’s the deal….are Country Beibs and Lauren together?
@Gigi, I was impressed with J-Lo’s dancing too. Her husband, Skeletor, is so creepy though, but man what a voice. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the show….but I wish James would have made it to the end.
Oh….Scotty’s teacher….c’mon….we know why she was his fave.

I loved the show last night! They did a great job. I don’t know if it was just me but I thought carrie underwood was looking a lil like btheny frankel last night? She’s gotten so thin! Its crazy to think she was that girl who won idol season 3.
I agree with all the previous posts- I loved Jennifer’s dancing!! I thought she looked great & moved even better- she was killing it out there with that rockin bod!! Now her hubby I can do without, but he can sing so I’ll give him that.
I loved the show & performances(except U2)! Lauren & Scotty did great jobs- Congrats Scotty on the win!! (Although I’m still a bit bitter James didn’t win) AI did a great job with this finale!
Congrats to both of them. Lauren’s Idol song on Monday night brought me to tears and Scotty’s duet with Tim McGraw last night, did the same.

Scotty should never have made it past the 1st round. He was the least talented of the entire bunch. So disappointed in AI this season – the judging was terrible – and unfortunately – this is the result.
The absolute best part of the show last night was TIM MCGRAW……YUM!!!!! I heart me some TM………he was HAWT…….made the night for me.
I must say performance wise I enjoyed the Beyonce medley tribute by the AI girls. They did an awesome job and then Beyonce came on and SLAYED it!!! Crazy in Love is my absolute favorite of all of her songs…..she comes alive singing and performing.
Funny how J-HO tried her best to compete with Bey’s performance…….she was all over the place like a cheap suit….so not a good look. I knew she would come on and act a fool……EPIC FAIL…..sorry. I was more pissed that she interfered with Marc’s singing.
Also love TM’s performance with Scotty….so true….you’ve got to live like you were dying.
Wth was up with TBoz of TLC? She looked like a giant black spider……..who ever put her big arse in that outfit should be talked to……..
Why do they even have this show on? I mean not to be a debbie downer or anything, but it just seems that the only thing people are interested in is watching the show and seeing who wins.. other than carrie and kelly, no one has heard of anyone else really.. i mean of course theres adam and chris (is that his name? the rocker kid?) there really isn’t much out there.. it’s the hype of seeing who wins, if your choice wins, and thats pretty much it.. everything else is just a major fail..
I agree with much of what the posts say; but especially with Mary’s comments. Ditto on it all, Mary! Neither J-Lo’s or Gaga’s performances were prime time; esp. gaga’s. To me, she’s nothing more than a Madonna wannabe. The very first thing I said when she opened her cape: she’s copying Madonna. Originality would have been nice.
Yes Scotty has been consistent the entire season. He was my favorite from the auditions. I will certainly purchase his music.
I loved the finale of American Idol last night. Jlo and Marc Anthony killed it. If your not spanish then u wouldn’t understand that dancing. I loved Beyonce but I thought her song 1 plus 1 was not appropriate for last night but sang it great. STeve Tyler slayed it, and Of Course my girl Hailey was as lovely as ever I wanted Hailey to win. Scotty and Lauren can’t compare to Hailey. I loved last night best AI EVER!!!!!
@marie: Scotty has a ton of talent. No offence intended, but you’re blind to not see that. He was more talented than Naima, Karen, Ashthon, Paul, Stephano, and many others! He is an amazing performer!!! I loved him since the beginning.
However, I do agree with you about the judging! Bring back Simon Cowell! Barely any of them had constructive criticism, especially Steven Tyler, who said every performance was “beautiful”.
