Well, it looks like Lamar Odom just freed up some time in his schedule to devote to filming his reality shows Khloe & Lamar and Keeping up with the Kardashians. It was announced this morning that after four months, he’s stepping down from playing pro basketball for the Dallas Mavericks.
“The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it’s in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team. I’m sorry that things didn’t work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs’ organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship.”
I won’t pretend to understand a thing about pro athlete contracts, but does this mean he still gets paid even though he’s not playing?

ESPN tries to explain: “Any team that has Odom on its roster as of June 29 must buy him out by that date for $2.4 million or otherwise accept responsibility for the full $8.2 million that Odom is scheduled to earn in 2012-13.”
Radar Online’s sources speculate that there was just too much drama in Lamar’s life to focus on the game. “The Mavericks are parting ways with Lamar today. Too much drama, not enough focus on basketball. He just couldn’t get past all his issues, whatever they may be, and concentrate on playing basketball.”
Radar also says that Khloe is worried about Lamar’s worsening depression. “Lamar hasn’t gotten over being traded from the Lakers, and he has been depressed and moody ever since the trade happened. Lamar felt that he was ripped away from his Laker family with no warning or notice. He couldn’t fathom the fact that the Lakers traded him after all of his years with the team. Khloe has been extremely supportive of Lamar, but she is growing increasingly concerned for her husband because she has never seen him like this before.”
There are even rumblings of Lamar being ready to retire: “Lamar is just lost right now, and Khloe is hoping once they move back to Los Angeles and he is back in familiar surroundings, he will get out of his funk. Lamar wants to keep playing basketball but it might be time for him to retire, which has Khloe even more concerned.”
After the news broke, Kim Kardashian took to Twitter to share “Were going back to Cali, Cali, Cali…”, obviously a reference to her sister and brother-in-law coming back home to Los Angeles.
Khloe simply shared “Never a dull moment”, followed up with “U deserve so much better. Know ur worth and know ur skills that have been proven and earned! U showed ur strength, I love u.” Khloe claims that last tweet wasn’t directed at anybody in particular.
I’m sure pimpmomager Kris Jenner is thrilled to have Khloe back where she can keep a better eye on her and make sure that Khloe doesn’t do anything crazy – like give up the spotlight to focus on her marriage in private.
Do you think Kim’s going to be pissed that Lamar’s news will upstage her front-page-worthy fauxmance with Kanye?
