Amber Portwood Sentenced To Five Years In Prison!

It deeply saddens me to report this news, as I take it as a sign that Amber Portwood has given up hope. The Teen Mom star was just sentenced to five years in prison after asking an Indiana judge to reimpose her original sentence.

Amber has had a string of legal issues – most of them related to her substance abuse – recently she was participating in a drug treatment and sobriety program in exchange for serving jail time, but after she was kicked out of the program for missing too many requirements after a gallbladder surgery she decided to do jail time instead of campaigning to be reinstated.

TMZ reports that Amber was in court this morning where the judge reimposed her sentence. Amber’s attorney requested leniency, but the judge insisted he was required to enforce the terms of her plea agreement which meant serving the full five years.

The judge decided to refer Amber to the Indiana Department of Corrections therapeutic community program – which is an incarceration-based treatment program and Amber will be given credit for time served in jail. No word on when she is eligible for parole.

Amber was arrested this past December in possession of a large amount of prescription pain medication and spent Christmas in jail. Afterwards, she began campaigning to break her Teen Mom contract, stating the show had ruined her life. MTV instead canceled the show as Amber was not the only mom tired of filming.

Teen Mom’s final season will be airing this month. Recently her co-stars spoke out about how sad they were for Amber’s now three-year-old daughter, Leah, who remains in her father’s care. That video is below. Hopefully Amber can work to get her life back on track.
