Real Housewives of Atlanta Stars Phaedra Parks And Husband Apollo Nida Both Recently Lost Their Grandmothers

I think the last term anyone would use to describe Real Housewives of Atlanta's Phaedra Parks would be "wallflower."  However, the outspoken Southern belle from Bravo's hit has been MIA lately, both on Twitter and on her show's blog.  Many speculated that there was tension between her and Apollo Nida thanks to co-star Kenya Moore's relentless flirting with Phaedra's husband.  Unfortunately, Kenya's inappropriate behavior has nothing to do with Phaedra's media absence.

Phaedra recently spoke out regarding her hiatus from all things social media, and my heart goes out to her.  She now reveals that both she and her husband have both lost their maternal grandmothers.  While I am sure both Phaedra and Apollo are grateful for having their grandmothers in their lives for so long, it's never, ever easy to lose a cherished family member, especially so close to the holidays.  My positive thoughts are with both of them and their families.

Being an attorney/mortician hybrid, it's likely hard for Phaedra to draw the line between grieving family member and licensed funeral planner.  On one hand, I hate that she had to wear both hats, but on the other hand (having been in a similar situation…no, I'm not a blogger/mortician hybrid!), I'm sure there was a part of Phaedra that appreciated somewhat getting her mind off her loss while focusing on the professional side of the tragedy.

On Friday, Phaedra returned to her Bravo blog to explain why she's been absent of late.  I'm not at all surprised by her heartfelt entry, but I do have to give props to Phaedra for sharing her hardships with her fans when she didn't have to do it.  She took time from healing to let her followers know why she's been so quiet lately.  It wasn't necessary, but I'm sure Phaedra's fans appreciate it.

In her Bravo blog, Phaedra writes, “Many of you have been wondering where I’ve been and why I have not blogged lately. Well unfortunately, both Apollo and I recently lost our maternal grandmothers. In early November my grandmother became ill and I chose to direct all of my energy and focused on caring for her and supporting my mother. Unfortunately, on November 25 my dear grandmother passed away.  I immediately sprang into funeral mode preparing for her memorial service and burial. I wanted to make sure her home going service was reminiscent of her spirit: elegant, joyous, and unforgettable! As we were returning home from my grandmother’s obsequies, we learned that Apollo’s grandmother passed away. So, we have been very busy caring for our families and managing the tender moments of loss and grief.”

Phaedra continues, “I want to thank and acknowledge my Bravo and True Entertainment family, especially Kandi [Burrus], NeNe [Leakes], Cynthia [Bailey] and her lovely mother and daughter Noelle for their kind deeds and comforting words during our time of bereavement. I also want to thank all my fans and friends who supported me during this time.”

I hate that Phaedra and Apollo are both having to deal with losing loved ones.  I have always appreciated Phaedra's openness (although I didn't appreciate her thong suit), and I like that she attempts to stay drama free…for the most part.  Here's hoping that both her and Apollo's family were able to happily celebrate the holidays even in light of their recent heartaches.

TELL US-DID YOU NOTICE PHAEDRA'S ABSENCE?  HOW SAD IS IT THAT BOTH SHE AND APOLLO LOST THEIR GRANDMOTHERS IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME?
