Bonnie Blossman and Whitney Whatley, my favorite Big Rich Texas mother/daughter duo, recently dished about reality TV stardom, their fans, and their favorite Big Rich Texas moments. About the show, Bonnie said, "I think we are an eclectic group of mothers and daughters. We all bring something new and different to the table and our interactions are unique – yet something that most people can relate to."
Bonnie and Whitney have experienced many great (and not so great) moments on the show. My personal favorites include Bonnie and Booger playing pool with creepy baby dolls, Cindy's dog party, Booger proposing to Whitney, Whitney proposing to Booger, and any Bonnie / Ozzy scene. I grew up with a Doberman, so seeing Ozzy brings back many fond memories of my childhood doggy.
Whitney said her favorite moment is Booger's proposal, adding, "It was one the best nights of my life." Bonnie's favorite moment: "My vow renewal ceremony in season two. It was a gothic ceremony. Even though we had our struggles in planning it around the cameras, it was a perfect day."
Most of the Big Rich Texas cast is active (and interactive) on Twitter. When asked why, Bonnie said, "This is like pen pals on steroids. I absolutely love making friends from across the US to across the globe and experiencing their joys, talking through their struggles, and making lifelong friends."
About connecting with fans of the show, Whitney said, "I have my share of haters, but overall, I have met some awesome people because of the show." Bonnie agreed, adding, "The haters can be very mean spirited, but I knew those type of people existed in the world. However, I am overwhelmed at the love and support we have received since season one of the show. I've also met some very awesome people." I'm positive she means me. 😉 (kidding!)
On a more personal note, Whitney and Bonnie each shared something about themselves that we may not know. Whitney was a cheerleader (a two-time state champion, even) and a gymnast. Most Big Rich Texas fans know that Bonnie has her PhD in Biology but some might be surprised to learn that she is a "high school dropout." Bonnie's book From GED to PhD explains how she did it.
The biggest challenge to being a reality TV star? Whitney said finding a work/school balance. Whitney admitted she had to take a leave of absence from esthetician school last season because the filming schedule was too demanding.
Bonnie's biggest challenge is getting people to NOT watch the show. Huh? She explained, "My challenge is getting my students to not watch the show, especially during the semester. This is a little distracting when they are concerned with what's happening on the next episode instead of the Kreb's Cycle."
Bonnie and Whitney have a lot to look forward to in 2013. Whitney and Booger's baby is due on July 24, and they plan to marry on Halloween. Also, I hope to see either season four of Big Rich Texas or a Bonnie and Whitney spin-off, preferably the latter. Part two of the Big Rich Texas reunion special airs tonight on Style Network.
