Teen Mom’s Amber Portwood Released From Prison

Teen mom Amber Portwood released from jail at the Rockville Correctional facility and greeted by mother Tonya and brother Shawn along with MTV crew in Rockville Indiana

Teen Mom star Amber Portwood was released from prison this morning.

As you may recall, Amber was sentenced to five years in prison in January 2012 for drug possession and parole violations. When a court-mandated drug rehab program proved to be too hard for the trouble reality TV star, Amber shocked us all by begging a judge to send her to prison instead in May 2012.

Amber was released from prison earlier than expected due to earning credits for good behavior and successfully completing a drug abuse program. Amber's mother Tonya and brother Shawn were present for her release. Ex-boyfriend Gary Shirley and daughter Leah were not.

Amber may be out of prison today – but she'll need to prove herself changed and stay clean to stay out of prison. She is on parole and subject to roughly 30 parole stipulations, including random drug tests and not mixing with felons.

Douglas Garrison of the Indiana Department of Corrections told In Touch:

"Amber will have to report to a parole officer. The parole officer will make sure she finds employment, that she is living in an appropriate situation, and that she is staying clean. Amber will have to check in a couple of times a month with her parole officer. If she violates anything, she could go back to jail.”

MTV was present and filmed Amber's release. This makes me sad. MTV needs to give her some breathing room – and I really hope Amber chooses to live her life out of the spotlight going forward.
