When Teen Mom went off the air in 2012 after four seasons, fans were under the impression that a Maci Bookout spinoff was in the works. Obviously, that never happened, but now Maci, Catelynn Lowell, and Amber Portwood are filming for Teen Mom again two years later. Their insufferable estranged co-star, Farrah Abraham, wasn’t asked to participate in the reboot.
Reportedly, MTV decided to revive the series after the update specials, Being Maci, Being Amber, Being Farrah, and Being Catelynn, were well received by fans. So what happened to party girl Maci and cutie patootie Bentley‘s spinoff? Apparently, Maci did film with MTV, but the network decided against a regular series and turned the random footage into the Being Maci special.

“MTV originally wanted to film a Southern version of The Hills starring Maci as the ‘Southern Lauren Conrad,’” an inside source revealed to Life & Style. “The show was going to be centered around Maci and include other characters, like her ex, Ryan Edwards, and his girlfriend at the time, Dalis Connell. They filmed for months, but ultimately, the show didn’t end up working out.”
Most likely, Maci didn’t have enough personality going on in her life to warrant a full series. MTV was probably like, let’s cut our losses, make a one-time special out of what we have so it wasn’t a complete waste of time, and be done with it.
My guess: MTV wasn’t expecting the big ratings for Being Maci. Wheels turning, they filmed and aired similar “being” specials for Catelynn, Amber, and Farrah to gauge interest in the original cast as a whole. And Teen Mom was born again – sans Farrah, but that is probably for the best since she’s a stripper now. We would not want MTV to tarnish their fantabulous reputation.
HAHA! Obviously I am kidding about MTV having a reputation to uphold. That delusion only exists in Jenelle Evans‘s mind. I, for one, would NOT be shocked to see MTV air Teen Moms Turned Strippers if the Teen Mom reboot is a failure.
