Bethenny Frankel Talks RHONY Co-Stars And Critiques Lisa Rinna’s First Season On RHOBH

Bethenny Frankel

I am exhausted just thinking about all the places Bethenny Frankel has been the past few weeks to promote her new relationship advice book and her return to Real Housewives of New York. I couldn’t do it. I just don’t like people that much. #imkidding #umthatsalie #imnotkidding

In a recent interview with All Things Real Housewives, Bethenny dished on her co-stars and shared her thoughts on how Real Housewives of New York has changed since season 3. “I think it had changed in that it was contrived, in my opinion, because it had been on for so long that people who were new would know what to expect and think that’s how to manufacture drama,” she surmised.

Bethenny continued, “Coming back this season felt more like what it used to be like. Not contrived, it felt… it took a minute, I’ll be honest… but I feel like the tone was set to just be real and not be contrived and manufactured. You don’t need to do that, you can be interesting enough.”

When asked if there’s anything she really wants viewers to know about her, Bethenny said, “Probably that my life is a lot more simple than people think. I do work, but my mom time is my most important time, like every other mom. I don’t have a nanny. I’m not shopping on Madison Ave, I buy everything online and on sale. I don’t have any apps, I’m not technologically savvy at all… to say the least [laughs].”

About her new friendship with Carole Radziwill, Bethenny shared, “I just liked her, I connected with her. It was unexpected, she’s not a person who I would have thought I would have opened up to, and I did. And off-camera I definitely connected with her. I think she’s an interesting person and I like her and I think I will be friends with her. I think she will be a real friend and that’s a great surprise, because I was nervous. I do not really open up and trust new people that much.”

Bethenny said the blogs “sensationalized” her issues with Heather Thomson.

“We definitely had our moments on the show, which you will see, but I really like her,” said Bethenny. “I think she’s interesting. She’s got a lot going on. She’s a businesswoman to be respected. She’s been in a business for 25-years, so she has a lot of knowledge and experience. She has a child with health concerns and what seems to be a solid marriage, and I like her. I had my moments, but you’re also talking about two people that don’t know each other and she’s coming into my life at a time when I’m going through something really personal and she’s very, very friendly and got she’s her own style. It’s like dogs, you kind of have to sniff each other a little bit before you figure out what the rhythm is. Everyone is loving to write that it’s a big rivalry, and I like her. I mean there are moments, but I have moments with a lot of people.”

As for Ramona Singer and Luann de Lesseps, Bethenny shared, “Ramona is going through something and she’s a different person in some ways, but the same in many ways. LuAnn has been embracing in a different way. You have to know what you’re getting from each person and what kind of friendship you’re getting from each person and where the boundaries are. But there is a nostalgia from all of us starting this together. I recognize and appreciate that.”

Bethenny said Dorinda Medley and Kristen Taekman took her by surprise, adding, “… for completely different reasons. I did not know what to expect from either of them and what I expected was the opposite from both.”

When asked to make up a Real Housewives All-Stars cast, she said, “NeNe [Leakes], Sheree [Whitfield], Kim Zolciak, me, Kyle [Richards], Lisa [Vanderpump], Tamra [Judge]. Maybe from Miami the blonde swimsuit model and maybe Brandi [Glanville].”

Bethenny talked about her latest book, I Suck At Relationships So You Don’t Have To, and a secret project with Andy Cohen, also. You can hop over to All Things Real Housewives to read the interview in its entirety.

Next on the press tour, Bethenny stopped by Access Hollywood, where she proved her weight and talked sex with Lisa Rinna. She also critiqued Lisa’s first season on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

“I thought that you were great,” Bethenny told Lisa. “To be a good housewife you have to be compelling, interesting, open, honest, entertaining, and have a good interaction with the other women. I thought you did a great job.”

Bethenny said smashing a glass was “a little housewife-y”and “a little Days of Our Lives” but added that she understood Lisa‘s reaction to Kim Richards. “I get why,” she said. “I totally get why.”
