NeNe Leakes Says Leaving RHOA Rooted In Quest for Happiness, Not Career Ambition

Real Housewives of Atlanta 100th Episode Special

It’s no secret that NeNe Leakes is leaving the Real Housewives of Atlanta in the dust as she burns rubber outta there and into her next gig on ABC’s gameshow To Tell the Truth. While speculation surfaced about whether NeNe would return in some capacity to the Bravo show that started her career, NeNe has denied these rumors.

NeNe’s also denying that career moves had much to do with her decision to leave RHOA, period, claiming that it was only after she announced her departure from RHOA that To Tell the Truth reached out to her. She recently told Extra TV, “the moment I announced it, ‘To Tell The Truth’ producers reached out and said come over here and play with us at ‘To Tell The Truth,’ this would be a great place for you to come.”

Viewers have gotten to know NeNe, and her many catchphrases, since her RHOA debut season in 2008. But NeNe argues that we haven’t gotten to see the “real” NeNe over the last 7 seasons on the Housewives…and wedding spinoffs…and talkshows…and Broadway. She argues that “certain shows…only show certain parts of you, so people don’t always get to see all sides of you. I like laughing, and I like being fun. I’m a fun girl, I’m a girly girl, and I want people to see that.” (Is NeNe actually crying “Bad Edit!”? To quote the source: #GirlBye.)

CYNTHIA BAILEY IS OPTIMISTIC ABOUT REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ATLANTA WITHOUT NENE LEAKES!

Although the future of RHOA is unclear, given the casting shakeup that’s underway at present, fellow Atlanta Housewife Cynthia Bailey shares that her former wind beneath her wings’ castmate’s departure won’t hurt Bravo’s historically successful franchise. Telling E! News, “Well the show has never been about one person. It’s just not what makes it work,” Cynthia asserts, “Sometimes you gotta change it up and mix it up. I look forward to a really great drama-filled season.”

Touting her happiness as a more important factor than career ambition, NeNe claims she is immune to what the public may think of her recent decision. “I don’t really care what people think anyway, I’m kind of that girl, I’m at a place in my life where I really don’t give a s*** about what people really think at the end of the day, cause people always gonna think something,” she shared with Extra.

As for her plans going forward, NeNe says, “I just want to be in a place where I’m free and I can kind of get back to me and laugh cause that’s what I like to, I don’t really like being in a place where I am not laughing.”
