Luann de Lesseps Criticizes Sonja Morgan’s Business Sense

I’m still in total shock that Luann de Lesseps is so fun these days on Real Housewives of New York. When she first joined the show she was all about being a countess and lecturing people on etiquette. Sure, she had her place as the foil for the more outrageous characters, but I love her so much more now that she’s a cougar on the prowl for fresh meat.

I also never expected Luann to become so close with Sonja Morgan. Like I said before, Luann just used to be so uptight and Sonja has always been outrageous and open about her partying. But, whatever, stranger alliances have happened on RHONY. And I’m all about this friendship between Sonja and Luann. They just do whatever they want and whoever they want with no apologies. These two have been pretty loyal to each other, but Luann is calling Sonja out.

Luann and Sonja have been two peas in a pod full of partying and I have been all about it. They have been there for each other and have been super supportive. But now, Luann is just keeping it real with her commentary on this whole Skinnygirl vs. Tipsy Girl fiasco with Sonja and Bethenny Frankel. Just because Luann and Sonja are besties and occasional roomies, it doesn’t mean that Luann is going to blindly support everything she does. Luann is clearly a pretty smart chick, so I wish that Sonja just listened to her.

Luann wrote about the feud between her costars in her Bravo blog: “Sonja is humble about her Prosecco business, and she doesn’t think she’ll be a threat to Bethenny’s Skinnygirl brand. I can see why the name Tipsy Girl is a little too close for comfort for Bethenny.” Well yeah, Bethenny took Sonja under her wing, invited her to meetings, and coached her on how to be a good business woman. So it’s pretty shady to just go behind her back and create a similar business with a similar name without telling Bethenny about it until after the fact. Sure, she will never be able to hold a candle to Bethenny’s empire, but she definitely handled the situation pretty poorly.

Then Lu stated the obvious when she wrote, “I can’t believe Sonja or her business partners didn’t realize that using the word “girl” would be a problem. Sonja is not a dumb blonde; she is intelligent and her protestation that she didn’t realize the similarity between the name of her wine and Bethenny’s brands is a bit disingenuous.” Seriously though. Bethenny is talking about Skinnygirl every two seconds. It is crazy for Sonja to think that Bethenny would be at all accepting of this nonsense. It’s honestly a little ridiculous though (to say the least) that Sonja thinks she can just play dumb one second and then hype up her own business savvy immediately after. The woman needs to pick a side and own it (as Lisa Rinna would say).

And then there was that meeting- that insanely awkward talk with Bethenny and Sonja. I totally agreed with Bethenny’s point of view, but I just could not help feeling sorry for Sonja. Bethenny is just way too much to handle for someone who seems so fragile. Luann wrote, “Bethenny may have been harsh on her during their “mentoring” meeting, but Sonja can’t play smart then dumb when it comes to her business. As for Peter, Sonja might want to look elsewhere for investors for her next business venture. If Sonja wants to get into accessories, hopefully she’ll not name it the ____ Collection!” I would die if Sonja came out with the Morgan Collection. That would be too good. She needs to start writing books and offend Carole Radziwill next.

Sonja makes for great TV, but she really needs to learn to pick her battles when it comes to creating her own story lines. This made-for-TV business just wasn’t a good look for her at all. She had no chance in hell when it came to battling Bethenny. She got completely owned.

TELL US- DO YOU THINK SONJA KNEW WHAT SHE WAS DOING WHEN SHE NAMED HER PROSECCO LINE?
