Explained: Teresa Giudice Access Hollywood Interview Disaster; Melissa Gorga On Their Mended Relationship

Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga have been doing press together as the new season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey gets under way. Things got a little tense when the two appeared on Access Hollywood together and ended with both reality stars walking off the set.

In a new interview with New York Live, Teresa reveals why she and Melissa left their interview with Access Hollywood before it was over.  And why she plans to do the same thing in the future if the media doesn’t honor her wishes.

The reason she stormed off was over questions regarding Joe’s prison sentence and possible deportation. Teresa told NYL, “I’m not going to address it. It’s nobody’s business. It’s a legal matter and I’m not addressing it. So if anybody asks me, going forward from here, I’m going to walk off… so don’t even try it.  Because they’ll just make it worse. Everything that happened to me, being in the public eye, unfortunately made it worse for me.  And I feel like if I wasn’t in the public eye, who knows what would have happened. Unfortunately when I first got into this, I didn’t know all of this was going to happen, and I got into it for fun, not to be scrutinized, and to be jabbed at, to be under a microscope. Like, I didn’t know anybody in Hollywood or California, I mean I grew up in Jersey! So I didn’t’ know about any of this. So I really got into it blindly and I was very naïve.”

Teresa says that it wasn’t easy to watch herself on the premiere episode as she returned home from prison to her family. “It’s hard to watch. It’s happy, but it’s also…sad. It’s emotional….it was hard for me to watch [myself coming home]. It was hard to watch but I had to watch it because I had to blog about it… but I knew when that part was coming on, so I didn’t watch it”

Melissa had a reaction like Andy Cohen did: lots of tears. “I watched it, I cried. I cried like a baby. But I keep explaining to her…I was so relieved to see the girls jump into her arms and to hug her and hold her, and it’s was like a happy cry. I mean, it’s sad what she had to go through this last year, but she’s home now. That’s it, you look forward.”

They also took turns sharing their thoughts on their finally-mended relationship. Melissa shared, “It’s awesome, I think we’re really enjoying each other… everyone always focused on the negative with us, but no one actually knows that we actually really have a lot of fun together.” Teresa added, “And what you see now, is how we always were…and that’s why it was easy to mesh together… Unfortunately there was a lot of people, in our lives, trying to cause problems on the show, and you see that. So we’re never going to let that happen again.”

Update: Teresa’s rep shared a statement about the walk off.

“Teresa was there to promote the new season of Real Housewives of New Jersey and the paperback release of her book, not to be asked a question like the one that was posed about this being the end of her family. She politely deflected the question and asked them to move on and they didn’t, so she left. She was doing Access Hollywood, not 60 Minutes or a sit down with Barbara Walters. To see the host hi-fiving at the end of the segment as if she did something worthy of a celebration was absolutely taste less.  Clearly the question posed and the answer they hoped to illicit were not something Teresa was comfortable discussing. She has her own personal reasons for that and owes absolutely no one an explanation for her choosing to not answer the question.”
