Even though Captain Sandy Yawn stays out of the crew drama on Below Deck Mediterranean, she does have opinions on all the major story lines that have gone down this season. The biggest story by far is Malia White’s love triangle with Wes Walton and Adam Glick. Other than that, Adam’s comment about Bugsy Drake being a better stewardess than Hannah Ferrier put him at the center of the second biggest issue this season: the stewardess tension.
Captain Sandy is not into the drama enough to truly take sides, but she does have some words of wisdom and personal insight about both of these dramatic situations.
Captain Sandy shared her opinion on Malia’s love triangle with Bravo’s The Daily Dish: “From my observation, the energy between the crew, I think Wes and Malia would make a great couple.” Still, she emphasized, “However, I don’t really know what Malia feels. It’s up to her.”
The captain continued, “Malia’s not in the galley. So Adam and Malia, I don’t really see together. I know that Malia works harder to impress Wes. Would she do that if she didn’t have a crush on him? I think Malia just works hard. However, I think she’s working a little harder [with Wes], which is kind of nice to see.”

Even though Captain Sandy doesn’t view Adam as much of a factor in the love triangle situation, she does feel like his comment was the impetus between the feud between Hannah and Bugsy.
In another interview with Bravo’s The Daily Dish, she said, “Adam digging at Hannah, it’s like, really? Is that necessary? So now what’s it gonna be like for Bugsy? Bugsy’s an amazing chief stewardess. She is a chief stew. She’s a second stew on this boat, but she has chief stew material. People manage people differently. I think that what Adam did was wrong, because now he’s put this wedge in between Bugs and Hannah.”
Still, I don’t feel like the tension between Bugsy and Hannah is Adam‘s fault, but he definitely made the situation worse with his words. Captain Sandy elaborated, “I think they have two different ways of being a chief stew. Bugsy takes it very seriously. I think she anticipates what’s going to happen next. Sometimes I think Hannah may get a little lost in the other stuff that’s happening on board and not so focused on the main priority. But overall, I think Hannah’s a good chief stew when she stays on point.”
If anyone other than Captain Sandy was doing this interview, I would take that as a backhanded compliment toward Hannah, but the captain is so beyond that pettiness.
