Summer House Star Carl Radke Explains Why He Didn’t Join Winter House Cast

Summer House is all about good vibes, even if there are some hiccups to that mission along the way. The New Yorkers hit the Hamptons to party it up every summer in an epic (and LoverBoy-fueled) way. And out of all of the Summer House stars, one stands above the rest — the one, the only, Carl Radke.

It’s hard to not fall in love with the new and improved Carl on Summer House. He started off the show as a player who didn’t always take other people’s feelings into account. But in recent years, he’s undergone a complete transformation. He’s sober and an advocate for awareness about mental health issues. Carl is the ultimate sweetie, who loves to give back to others. He’s downright adorable and just radiates positive energy. So it was a glaring absence when he wasn’t included in Winter House alongside his co-stars and a few Southern Charm cast members.

Carl is tight with everyone on Winter House, particularly Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula, his BFFs/bosses. And Lindsay Hubbard, his one-time lover, permanent amiga. However, he told Us Weekly that skipping out on the show was a very personal decision — especially considering filming for Winter House occurred at the same time the Summer House episodes about Carl’s brother’s tragic death were airing. “My brother passing was a big deal for me,” Carl said. “It was better to take some time, and no amount of money was worth it.

Carlito also said he was at a very pivotal moment in his sobriety journey, and it doesn’t take a genius to tell that the Winter House set isn’t the best environment for someone dealing with addiction. “Sobriety is super important to me and taking better mental care of myself,” he said.

While he admits he has “a little bit of FOMO,” skipping the show wasn’t a decision Carl made lightly. “I really put a lot of thought into taking some time for myself,” Carl said. “I can’t wait to see it. It was exciting for [his co-stars] and I’m here to support them.”

I have to admit I was a little bummed not to see Carlito back with the gang in Vermont. But I will always support anyone doing what’s best for themselves, especially when it’s a sweet soul like Carl. He must be protected at all costs, whatever that takes.
