Tom Sandoval Says James Kennedy Didn’t Pay Him Back For Proposal, But He’s Not Upset About It

Vanderpump Ruleis closing up the season. One of the biggest storylines of this year was James Kennedy proposing to Raquel LevissWith the extremely generous support of Tom Sandoval, James proposed to Raquel at their own private version of Coachella with Scheana Shay, Brock Davies, Ariana Madix, Charli Burnett, and Lala Kent in attendance. It really was a great proposal!

Unfortunately, James and Raquel called it quits the night before they filmed the reunion. Here’s hoping Brock and Scheana didn’t bring them bad luck after trying to hijack their engagement party. Actually, they would have broken up anyway. Serious kudos to Raquel for getting out of what sounds like a really difficult relationship. Now people want to know if Sandoval got his money back.

During last week’s episode of Watch What Happens Live, on the after show, a fan asked Sandoval if James paid him back for the proposal. Tom started saying, “No.” But Schwartz cut in and shared that “Tom wouldn’t have accepted it.” Sandoval then clarified that, “No [he didn’t pay me back] and he didn’t even ask for me to help out to begin with.”

Sandoval could have stopped there, but he went on an interesting tangent. “I wanted to do it,” Tom continued. “Because when you’re planning something like and obviously, it’s going to be on the show, like there’s going to be those decisions where it’s like, ‘oh it’s this much for fireworks,’ and I’m like, ‘I’ll kick in half.’ It makes it easier for [James] to say yes.”

Then, Tom shared an interesting fact: “And also honestly it is a tax write off for me because it’s being shown on Vanderpump Rules. So, I can write it off.” Um, come again?! You can write these things off? Like it’s charity? People with money really do catch all the tax breaks!

Deflecting for SandovalSchwartz said, “You’re more of a giver than a receiver.” But Andy Cohen told Tom, “You maybe just revealed too much.” Then he teased, so “you did it for the write off?”

“No, I didn’t do it for the write off,” Sandoval said, getting flustered. Schwartz, always having his back, chimed in with, “It came from the heart.” Sandoval then shared the most Sandoval tidbit of all, saying, “I literally cried on the phone so many times when we were going through [the proposal]. It was so exciting!” This is not at all hard to believe considering how many tears he’s shed on VPR over the years.

Then Andy gave Tom the greatest compliment, saying, “There’s no doubt in my mind that you did. And there’s no doubt in my mind that if you were in my inner circle, you would do everything you could to boost me up and make every party I was at better, and dress for the occasion, and be the booster. Because it is clear to me, after 19 years of this show –  or however long it’s been going on –  that that is who you are.” Have you ever heard Andy give such a genuine compliment? I don’t think I have!
