On last night's season premiere episode of 16 And Pregnant a 16-year-old high school junior from Tinley Park, Illinois named Maddy Godsey got pregnant after a one-night stand. Besides the obvious one night stand with NO PROTECTION and a dual-colored hair that seems to have a shaved widows peak in the front, Maddy seemed fairly mature and responsible – and recognized that her 'hook-up' Cody Jensen was definitely not boyfriend material.
Maddy is a high school volleyball and basketball player who has a ton of friends (and a penchant for zebra-print; a nice change from the omnipresent leopard on these shows). She lives with her mom and three siblings, including a little sister who is only a few months old. She has a good relationship with both her parents, who are divorced. Her father lives about an hour away. Maddy had a long-term boyfriend and after he broke up with her she met Codyon Facebook and the two had a one-night stand.
If you're a 16 and Pregnant fanatic, you'll probably remember the crazy story of Ashley Salazar.
Just to recap: Ashley got pregnant the first time she slept with baby daddy Justin Long which threatened to derail her big big plans to move to NYC for college. Ultimately she decided, with the support of her mother, to give her daughter Callie up for adoption.
Callie was adopted by Ashley's aunt and uncle. After the adoption, Ashley changed her mind and took Callie back for a month before realizing she wasn't ready to give up her dreams and returned Callie to her aunt and uncle. She has maintained a close relationship with her daughter.
So it appears that MTV is going to continue its grand plan to shed light on the epic social problem of teen pregnancies by continuing to glorify pregnant teens, giving them a hefty check, and making them pseudo-celebrities. It's been working thus far. I mean, just look at how mature Farrah Abraham is thanks to the network's influence! Of course, actual intelligent people who are touted with research on such subjects are out to prove me wrong.
According to MTV's Remote Control, economists from Wellesley College and the University of Maryland have determined that 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom have led to a reduction in teen pregnancy by 5.7 percent, or about 20,000 births every year since the first show premiered in 2009. If you want to get super technical, that's one less birth by a teen every half hour. I guess that would explain why the network has announced another season which will follow twelve new pregnant teens.
While there doesn't appear to be a Jenelle Evans in the bunch, Briana is attempting to tweet more often and more caustically than her predecessor in response to anonymous Internet haters. I honestly can't fathom the amount of criticism and hate these girls get from total strangers, and apparently Briana would rather fight back than stay quiet. It's craziness!
That said, we've also got the trailer for the upcoming season, and the drama certainly abounds! After the jump, check out what to expect from the new group of teen moms as well as some of my favorite retorts from Briana's twitter spew. I couldn't show them all because you don't have all day to read this one post!

Oh my good gracious. Y'all know how I feel about the ladies of MTV's Teen Mom franchise, but I'll let you in on a little secret. I've always held out hope for a slightly normal life for the first cycle's Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra. The couple chose adoption for their daughter on their episode of 16 & Pregnant, and they have faced multiple relationship and socio-economic hurdles with grace and maturity.
Both Catelynn and Tyler came from backgrounds where the cards were already stacked against them, but the pair seems determined to beat the odds. Despite family drama (his jailbird dad married her addict mom–and that relationship was nothing short of abusive), the two graduated high school and started working towards college degrees. Now, they are moving their issues to MTV's sister network. Le sigh.
Brooke and Cody announced the news by posting a photo of their sweet baby girl on their Facebook fan page. Born on December 18, Ryley Jean joins big brother Brody Ryan. Brody will be three in January. While Brody is a combination of Brooke and Cody's first names, Ryley was created by merging the couple's middle names, which are Ryan and Ashley.
Brooke and Cody were featured on Season 2B. The couple got married before Brody was born (a first on 16 and Pregnant) and bought a barn house (the barn is the only reason I remember these two!).
Earlier this week, Whitney and Weston were accused of smashing someone else's laptop and cell phone, arrested, and charged with criminal trespassing.
This is the second arrest this year for each of them.
In March, Whitney was arrested for stealing a pregnancy test from Walmart. Following the arrest, Whitney said, “Sometimes it takes hittin’ rockbottom.” In July, Weston was arrested and charged with felony possession of controlled substances, misdemeanor possession of drug-related objects, and DUI. Also, he may or may not have been charged with failing to stay awake for mugshot.
Teen Mom shocker: Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra are living separately. On October 22, Tyler moved to New Orleans to pursue his dream of social working being a movie star. Simply put, Tyler says, "It's time for me to focus on my dreams." And, according to Tyler, New Orleans has a "thriving movie scene."
So, Catelynn is on her own in Michigan. To pass the time, she attends Baker College, shares Twitpics, saves pregnant teens, and (now) fends off break up rumors. Catelynn insists that she and Tyler are "stronger than ever." She shares, “I love him, and I need to stand by him.”
Catelynn feels the need to add, “It’s not like we’re going to go out and cheat on each other. We’re not like that." To reinforce Catelynn's statement, Tyler adds, "We're two peas in a pod." Catelynn and Tyler have been through a lot together – an unplanned pregnancy, placing Carly for adoption, drug addicted parents, becoming step brother and sister – and are to be married in July. Wil their relationship survive this separation?
