Blood, Sweat and Heels

blood sweat and heels

I can’t believe it’s the season 2 finale of Blood, Sweat, and Heels! Is it just me, or was this season waaaaaaay too short? Bravo, please give us more of these ladies next season (and please, please let there be a next season, period).

In full disclosure, I have to admit I’m connecting to Mica Hughes recent loss of her 91-year old grandmother in a special way tonight, as I lost my own 91-year old grandmother just this morning. A second mother to me, she went peacefully, surrounded by love and family and I got to see her right up until the end. I know reality television is good fodder for snark (don’t worry, we’ll have plenty of it with this finale!), but it’s poignant to realize that we’re all connected in strange, surreal, and plain old human ways too. Now, on to the show. Which tonight, friends, is one HOT mess. 🙂

On last night’s Blood, Sweat, and HeelsMelyssa Ford becomes even more of a drama queen as the self appointed epic sh*t-stirrer between Geneva Thomas and Demetria Lucas, while Daisy Lewellyn and Mica Hughes face some trying – and sweet – times with their families. We begin at Mica’s apartment where her new fling, Kevin is coming to play kissy-face. Things are moving fast with him, but they haven’t slept together yet, Mica would like us to know. She tells Kevin she wants both of them to be HIV tested before moving forward with a sexual relationship, and Kevin is in agreement. Since Mica’s sister passed away in 2011 from HIV, this issue is close to her heart. Whoa! She’s got an HIV swab test ON HAND. Didn’t see that coming. Kevin gets his swab on and they are in the clear. Mica jokes, “We can go on ahead and get busy right now!” Not knowing much about Kevin beyond this, I’d venture to say he is either a stand up dude, crazy, or reeeeeeeeeeally in lurv with Mica. (Seriously, who agrees to get HIV tested on camera!?!?)

Daisy is over at her apartment Skyping with her mom. She’s stressed out from the Hamptons trip, so she wants to refocus on her health now. She proposes holding a prayer vigil for herself and wants to include the ladies and her family. The negative energy around her is bringing her down. Daisy’s parents are split up, but she wants them both to come to her vigil, which should be okay because they’re cordial. Daisy is a daddy’s girl, but loves her mom despite their sometimes more distant relationship.

On this week’s Blood, Sweat, and Heels, Chantelle Fraser took the formidable Demetria Lucas head on at the shade-throwin’ Hamptons dinner heard round the world. Now she’d like to explain just why she acted the way she did, and basically why she fundamentally dislikes Demetria. When asked in her Bravo blog the reason she went into uber-protective mode over good friend Geneva Thomas (and locked horns with Demetria as a result), Chantelle replied, “I am am not a passive aggressive person. I face issues head on and am not intimidated by anyone or afraid to voice my opinion. Geneva was disinvited to the wedding, because she ‘didn’t control me.’ The nerve! That’s an insult in itself. I cannot be owned by anyone nor am I Geneva’s child.” So, was Chantelle surprised Demetria fled the Hamptons trip after their argument? “No not at all,” she says, “She is another one that can dish it but can’t take it.”

Chantelle further explains that she thinks Demetria is playing mind games, and she wants none of it! She claims, “Demetria was being passive aggressive hiding behind Greg, and it was clearly a control tactic asking Geneva to apologize to HER man to negotiate her way back into the wedding. (Manage your own relationship, Demetria!).” Chantelle also questions Greg’s heavy influence over Demetria in their relationship: “Also, I’m not buying it that Greg can dictate to Demetria who she invites to her wedding. Come on, people! I would laugh in my man’s face if he tried to disinvite my best friend from my wedding. Secondly, Daisy [Lewellyn] having a breakdown in the afternoon because of Demetria’s dispassion toward her really affected me. At that point, I just wanted Demetria gone.”

blood sweat and heels

It’s time to revisit the Hamptons for the ladies of Blood, Sweat, and Heels, and so far it’s not going well. Whodathunkit? This place seems cursed ever since last season’s fiasco at the very same locale. This year, the ladies are making a weekend getaway out of Demetria Lucas upcoming wedding photo shoot, taking place at a castle nearby. Daisy Lewellyn is upset about the laughing and snickering Demetria, Melyssa Ford, and Arzo Anwar were engaging in the night prior as Daisy was updating Geneva Thomas on her cancer news. She feels disrespected and slighted. While Geneva eats breakfast in her shades, she ponders why Demetria is so shady. She didn’t invite Geneva to the wedding photoshoot (and uninvited her to her wedding…sort of), so a hurting Geneva calls her mom for support, then discusses the mess with Mica Hughes (of all people!) and Arzo. Who did Demetria invite along to the shoot? Melyssa. Yes, let’s just let that sink in for a moment.

At her photo shoot, Demetria’s mother Camille meets her for support. Demetria looks up to her mother as the OG feminist who is her greatest role model, although she admits her mother is more proud of Demetria getting married than of all her writing and business accomplishments. Which isn’t very feministy of her. The grounds of the shoot are gorgeous, but back at Casa de Leftovers, the girls are griping about the fact that Melyssa is suddenly Demetria’s BFF. Chantelle Fraser takes Arzo aside to apologize for her perceived “racist” comment, which Arzo accepts, then apologizes in return for her insults against Chantelle. Back at the castle, Demetria’s getting her inner princess on. So, what are the Leftovers to do? The entire group heads to an apple orchard to get their inner Girl Scout on instead. Boom.

Bruce Jenner

The reality TV viewer numbers are in – and it’s another win for the Kardashian-Jenner clan. The two-night Keeping Up with the Kardashians special About Bruce attracted 2.915 million on Sunday and 2.554 million on Monday. The week was also good for Kandi’s Ski Trip, which garnered 1.457 million viewers, and Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, which logged 3.124 million viewers.

Not nearly as lucky in the viewers department were Real Housewives of New York, Million Dollar Listing New York, and Shahs of Sunset – the RHONY slipped down to 1.089 million, Million Dollar Listing New York continued its downward spiral with just 750,000 bothering to watch this week, and only 1.077 million watched the much-hyped, super-sized Shahs of Sunset. Check out the list below to see how the rest of your favorite shows fared the week.

All together Upfront celebration

After this week’s Blood, Sweat, and Heels, it remains to be seen whether Geneva Thomas will be attending former “bestie” Demetria Lucas upcoming wedding. Because she defended her friend, Chantelle Fraser’s behavior at Demetria’s recent book launch (Chantelle was being loud, making a bit of a scene, mouthing off to Demetria’s fiance’ Greg), Demetria has since threatened to dis-invite Geneva from her Big Day. In her latest Bravo blog, Geneva discusses her feelings on the issue, and her reaction to being the last one to learn of cast-mate Daisy Lewellyn’s battle with cancer.

Geneva says she was blindsided by Greg taking such a hard line on the book launch fiasco. She says, “I had no clue Greg would hold on to the issue the way he did. It was all very confusing. I can’t police grown women. That’s not my ministry. The best I could do to fix the issue was to offer my sincerest apology, and I did that to both Greg and Demetria.” Geneva argues that she’s dealt with her own disturbances at work events (i.e., last season’s drunken antics from Melyssa Ford and Mica Hughes at her work event), but she would never go so far as to kick her friends out of the venue. The book launch drama “was nothing like the disturbance I dealt with at my event,” says Geneva, “and I didn’t sick security on Mica and Melyssa.”

This week, Blood, Sweat, and Heels is taking us back into the fray – and the aftermath – of Demetria Lucas’ book launch, which Chantelle Fraser was nearly ejected from last episode. We pick up at Demetria’s house where she and Greg are recovering from the event. Melyssa Ford stops by and talk turns to Chantelle’s behavior. Demetria has heard Greg’s version of events, which includes Geneva Thomas sticking up for Chantelle. Melyssa adds fuel to the fire by saying that Geneva is immature and should have stuck up for Demetria at her own event because she’s Demetria’s friend first, not Chantelle’s. Demetria has a head cold and very few sh*ts to give about the entire debacle, claiming Geneva already called her to apologize and Chantelle should be in charge of Chantelle’s behavior. End of story. “Geneva is my girl. I can’t go for her – I can’t,” says Demetria.

Chantelle may not be in charge of her behavior, but she is apparently in charge of her entertainment events company. Geneva pops by Chantelle’s work to relive the previous night’s events and to tell her she already apologized to Demetria, but Chantelle stands firm that she did nothing wrong and still maintains that Greg “was on his period.” Amy, the matchmaker, calls Chantelle to entice her out on a blind date with a real estate developer. Chantelle agrees to the date while Geneva sits there looking like Inspector Gadget. What is this getup all about, Geneva!?

Reality TV Viewer Numbers RHOA Reunion

The reality TV viewer numbers are in. NeNe‘s breakdown on part three of the Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion attracted 2.588 million, which was down 794K from part one, and season 7 finished with an average of 3.12 million.

For comparison’s sake, part three of the season 6 reunion logged 4.29 million viewers and the season 6 average was 3.87 million viewers. While the decline is troublesome, IMHO, Real Housewives of Atlanta still brings more viewers to Bravo than the others in the franchise. Case in point: this week’s episode of Real Housewives of New York attracted just 1.385 million viewers.

Also this week, Shahs of Sunset remained steady with 1.131 million viewers, Million Dollar Listing New York slipped down to 818,000, and the Dance Moms reunion attracted 1.207 million viewers, bringing the season average to 1.55 million. Look below to see how the rest of your shows fared the week.
