Cowboy Ty Murray is the latest star to get the boot from Dancing With The Stars the week before the finale. Ty is however happy to have simply made it this far, saying, “I can’t tell you how happy I am,” Murray said laughing after the show. “I don’t have to learn any more dances.”
Ty goes on to make it clear that he has no regrets in having done the show, “The whole reason I did this show is because it was nice for cowboys to be represented in something so pop culture, and this show did in spades,” Murray said. “For me to be able to do this is a fantastic opportunity. You don’t realize how big something like this is until you’re on a show that 25 million people watch.”
And how does Ty’s rookie dancing partner, Chelsie Hightower, 19 feel about all of this? “I don’t know that I expected us to do this well and I couldn’t be happier,” Hightower added. “I feel great about the run we had and I feel great about leaving right now. It was a great season.”
The three remaining stars including — actor Gilles Marini, Bachelor star Melissa Rycroft and Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson — will compete for the season eight mirror-ball trophy next week!
In a somewhat shocking DWTS elimination, Lil Kim became the latest star to get the axe. It was a surprising elimination based on the fact that Lil Kim and her partner Derek Hough scored a total score of 52 on Monday night with Ty Murray and his partner, Chelsie Hightower, scoring 46.
The dancing couple, Kim and Derek, often led with the highest scores of this season. The crowd gasped, and some booed when the results were announced. Tears filled Kim’s eyes, but it wasn’t long before she and Hough were laughing and hugging again.
Kim joked afterwards saying, “Did they make a mistake.” Hough added, “It doesn’t matter when it is, even when you think you’re going to be eliminated, when you hear your name it still feels terrible.
She also talked about her favorite part of DWTS, “The greatest feeling is when I’m out here and the crowd is going crazy. The energy from the crowd is the best.” Derek also said he and Kim will likely remain good friends, “She’s a sweetheart. We’ve been voting for each other for weeks now,” he said. “She had as much grit and as much work ethic as anybody I’d seen on the show.”
Having had an entire week to recover from her rib injury, Melissa Rycroft is now ready to dance again! The former Bachelor star had to miss last Monday’s show but is now saying she is in fine shape for tonight’s Dancing With the Stars.
“This week, the difference with practice is that we can do things, and if it hurts a little bit, it’s okay,” she tells Entertainment Tonight. “I mean, it’s fine – grit your teeth and move on.”
Melissa and partner Tony Dovolani had to practice two new routines this week, the Viennese waltz and the samba. She has been using a numbing patch to help ease the pain. “It makes it tolerable, manageable,” she says.
Singer Jewel has some choice advice for Dancing With The Stars’ Melissa Rycroft. Jewel believes the injured dancer should go home if she is too injured to dance.
Jewel wrote on her husband Ty Murray’sblog - “If you’re too hurt to compete, then you can’t compete.” Jewel continues, “I think the rule about ‘judging a rehearsal if the person is too injured to perform’ was weird both times they have used it.”
The rule states that a contestant who is too injured to compete on the live show will be judged based on their rehearsal footage. It was put into practice when Steve-O hurt his back and on Monday when Melissa suffered a rib injury.
Jewel however does sympathize with Melissa adding, “As bad as I felt for Melissa, who I hope feels better and comes back, I’m used to our cowboy athletes that live by the rule: ‘Ride hurt or don’t get a score. It may seem harsh, but it seems like the only way to keep things honest.”
Another day, another injury for Dancing With The Stars as Melissa Rycroft is the latest star to suffer an injury. The 26-year-old former Bachelor star sat out of last night’s show. Her partner, Tony Dovolani, performed with professional dancer Lacey Schwimmer instead.
The doctors believe Melissa is suffering from a hairline fracture of the ribs. Melissa says, “I hurt my ribs last week doing a difficult move. It was feeling better and then I hurt myself again. I felt a blinding pain shoot down my side, so we decided it would be best to go actually have a doctor check it out.”
Melissa has been touted has one of the front runners to win it all. She was able to rehearse yesterday morning but did not feel well enough to perform for the show. She is expected to make a full recovery soon.
Melissa thanked her fans saying -
“I was doing alright but went to the doc before dress rehearsal for some last minute treatment and ended up having a bad reaction that’s affecting my breathing,” she wrote. “Hopefully (fingers crossed) I’ll be good tomorrow. But thank you for all the love, support and votes! We need it!”
Eat your heart out Jason! Melissa has clearly moved on as she shows of her new boyfriend Tye Strickland at a red carpet event this week.
The new couple walked their first red carpet together at Us Weekly’s Hot Hollywood party Wednesday. The two walked hand in hand as Melissa was being honored for her new glam style since her breakup with Jason. “I feel like I am a normal girl in L.A. now!” said Melissa who was also spotted practicing some moves with her DWTS partner Tony Dovolani in their booth throughout the night. “It’s weird. It’s awesome. It’s so surreal.”
Kudos to Melissa as Ty seems to be a definite upgrade from Jason.
The Dancing With The Stars injuries continue to pile on with Ty Murray being the latest victim. The rodeo star took a hit to the eye Wednesday but said it’s nothing he has hasn’t seen before.
This injury occurred while all the stars were practicing a group routine, Ty, 39, threw his partner Chelsie Hightower, 19, in the air, but her microphone pack fell off and struck Murray in the eye. Murray told People, “It was bleeding for a little while, and is slightly back and blue but I kept ice on it. It’s not a big deal to me because in bull riding you see that from time to time, but I guess people aren’t used to seeing a little blood in the ballroom.”
Professional dancer Derek Hough says Murray shook it off, despite the bleeding. “He’s a cowboy, so he’s used to that kind of stuff,” Hough says. “You know Ty, he’s like, ‘It’s alright. No problem. Don’t worry about me.”
