Real Housewives of Atlanta

Kenya & Matt

Well last night’s Real Housewives Of Atlanta certainly contained some baggage! And not all of it was Cargo By Cynthia Bailey. At least no one lost their bags in Maui (only their marbles).

After conquering LA with her Cargo collection, Cynthia is ready to take on Atlanta – America’s fashion mecca. Let’s be honest though, the real person Cynthia needs to impress is Sheree Whitfield. THE elegant and sophisticated fashion pioneer behind the infamous and influential She By Sheree. Big leagues!

Kairo has modeling dreams so as a favor to build his portfolio Cynthia asked him to walk in her show. Kairo dead-eye shuffles like he’s auditioning for The Walking Dead and is carrying his former human life in that mock-croc backpack. Sheree is the only one impressed, and she’s the only one unimpressed that Kairo’s only compensation is a measly bag. Even though most of the models aren’t even getting that.

Apollo Nida engaged

So wait – Phaedra Parks isn’t divorced after all?! Not according to an Atlanta judge who decided to reverse her divorce from Apollo Nida based on technicalities.

As always with Real Housewives Of Atlanta, the details are eternally confusing. Last year Phaedra’s dissolution of marriage was signed off by a judge, but despite the fact that he’s in prison and engaged to another woman, Apollo contested the divorce by saying he never saw nor signed papers, and that his name was intentionally spelled incorrectly. It’s listed as “Apollo Nita” on the legal documents.

Well the new judge agreed with Apollo!

Pheadra Parks

I knew the peace between Phaedra Parks and Kenya Moore was too good to be true. I enjoyed watching them get along this season on Real Housewives of Atlanta, but I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop. I just didn’t think it was going to happen on the group trip to Hawaii. They seemed to be on good terms – until Kenya threw that divorce party in her honor.

I see both sides on this one. Kenya was just trying to encourage optimism and growth during a tough transitional period. Still, I understand why Phaedra would not want to “celebrate” the end of her marriage and co-parenting with an ex-husband who is in prison.

Kenya Moore

I’m not going to lie, Kenya Moore does antagonize her Real Housewives of Atlanta costars a lot of the time. With that said, it actually did seem like she was acting from a genuine place of kindness when she threw a divorce party for Phaedra Parks and Cynthia Bailey.

Sure, a divorce is an odd thing to celebrate, but I think I understood the point Kenya intended to make with the party — she just wanted to support Phaedra and Cynthia during this transitional period of their lives. I also get why Phaedra could find it to be insensitive. I just don’t get why Phaedra handled her disappointment the way that she did. Pretending to look for ginger ale and then name calling ginger ale was NOT the best move to make.

Cynthia Bailey

I (along with many other viewers) was confused by Cynthia Bailey bringing Peter Thomas on a couples vacation even though they were in the process of divorcing. The viewers got to experience a lot of vicarious awkwardness from the last couple Real Housewives of Atlanta episodes.

This could not be more true when Cynthia attempted to roast Peter for his birthday and Kenya Moore threw a “Divorce Party” for her and Phaedra Parks. Yes, I think the idea is a little weird, but it did seem like Kenya was acting from a place of kindness so it was so awkward when Phaedra pretended to look for ginger ale as an excuse to leave. Not only that, but she retreated into her old ways by name calling Kenya via text.

Cynthia Bailey on WWHL

It’s already been revealed that the Real Housewives Of Atlanta reunion for season 9 is the most “shocking” and “epic,” but Cynthia Bailey says it’s the perfect time for the ladies “to just address it. People can own up to it or lie about it or not own up to it.”

“I actually like the reunion. I’m a big closure girl,” Cynthia adds, “I’m moving on whether you choose to or not.”

Kenya & Phaedra

Despite the failed Restoration on last week’s Real Housewives Of Atlanta, I thought people were moving forward, but like Paula Abdul dancing with a cartoon cheetah it was two steps forward and two steps back … except Kenya Moore and Phaedra Parks do NOT go together because sometimes opposites attack!

I gotta say Phaedra really disappointed me. Usually I’d see Kenya as the cartoon cheetah in this scenario, but last night it was sooo Phaedra! One thing about this trip to Maui was that that the ladies really shed their facades and let their guards down for a change.

The episode opens with Kenya and Phaedra playing tennis, bantering as they batted balls – badly – back and forth. Kenya seems hopeful that she and Phaedra are on their way to a real friendship, but Phaedra is still content to keep things at a distance. Although she’s glad she and Kenya aren’t having drama like everyone else. DUH – DUH -DUH… that’s some horror movie foreshadowing right there! Especially when Phaedra mentions, again, that she doesn’t quite trust Kenya (or any of these girls) with the status of her divorce.

Hell basically froze over this season on Real Housewives of Atlanta when Kenya Moore and Phaedra Parks put an end to their years of feuding and throwing shade. They actually got along for more than one episode and Kenya even helped Phaedra with her summer camp for kids affected by the Flint water crisis. After Phaedra’s reaction and mean text to Kenya throwing her a divorce party, it seems like their peace was short-lived.

Kenya confirmed that she is done with Phaedra during her most recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live. And while she was at it, Kenya threw some shade at Porsha Williams and Sheree Whitfield as per usual.
