The AMA Awards aired last night and in attendance were Bravo housewives, Kim Zolciak and Gretchen Rossi. In tow was also Slade Smiley, who accompanied his girlfriend on the red carpet.
Not sure what the correlation is between Bravo and the AMAs, but then again these ladies would attend the opening of an envelope. Gretchen and Kim both looked nice, and Kim did a rather nice job in walking that fine line between being sexy without being too revealing.
The buzz around the rumor mill this week was that Sheree Whitfield would be leaving The Real Housewives of Atlanta. However Bravo is saying not so fast. A rep for Bravo confirms that no decisions whatsoever have been made about season three and the rumors are false.
Kandi Burruss also revealed that Bravo is currently negotiating with all five ladies for season three. Nene Leakes revealed earlier this year that the ladies were each paid $100,000 to film the second season. That amount should go up as the Atlanta housewives have brought in the highest ratings ever to the housewives franchise.
They averaged 2.8 million viewers per episode. You can compare that to the 1.8 million viewers the Real Housewives of Orange County received for their last episode.
Lisa Wu Hartwell, Kandi Burruss & Kim Zolciak
In other news, Kandi Burruss celebrated the opening of her Atlanta store boutique, TAGS, last night. In attendance were her fellow housewives, Lisa Wu Hartwell and Kim Zolciak. Noticeably not in attendance were Nene and Sheree. Photographer, FreddyO reports Nene was out of town, and Sheree’s daughter had a play that night.
It is also reported that Big Poppa aka Lee Najjar was also in attendance, but did not allow any photographs of himself taken. Kim is back to sporting her “engagement ring” so it’s safe to say these two are back at it.
The autopsy result is in, and it confirms Ashley A.J. Jewel, former fiance of Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kandi Burruss, died from a rare trait of sickle cell anemia that became fatal because of a fight he had back in October.
AJ’s death is still however being ruled as a homicide based on a report from the Fulton County medical examiner given to AJC. “Although Mr. Jewell died of complications of his underlying natural disease conditions, [the] complications would not have occurred if he had not experienced the extreme exertion that was part of the physical altercation,” the report said. “Due to the active involvement of another person, the manner of death is classified as a homicide.”
Initially, it was believed Jewell, 35, died of blunt force trauma to the head. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office later said AJ most likely died from sickle cell, a condition he did not know he had.
Frederick Richardson has been charged with voluntary manslaughter in the death of AJ. He is currently free on bond.
“We’re trying to be peaceful with each other,” NeNe told PEOPLE Thursday at Tao Las Vegas. “Kim and I have an up-and-down relationship. Don’t be surprised if we have a falling out again. That’s just how we are.”
Throughout the second season of the show, Kim and NeNe fought and made up. Then, Kim accused NeNe of choking her. They also fought because Kim refused to let NeNe sing on her hit song “Tardy For The Party”.
Now that the 2nd season is over, the two remain civil. Recently, both NeNe and Kim were spotted having dinner in Los Angeles. The frenimies certainly know how to have fun together especially over a glass of wine. According to NeNe, they will continue to be civil as anyone can expect. “We’re not friends and we will probably never be friends,” NeNe said, “but we’re just trying to be respectful”.
We had a poll question this week asking which Bravo Housewives series is your favorite, and so far, the Real Housewives of Atlanta franchise seems to be in the lead, with theReal Housewives of Orange County coming in a close second.
My favorite franchise would have to be the Real Housewives of New York City. No, it does not have any table flipping, wig yanking drama, but it does have a cast filled with interesting characters. Where else can you find the crazy eyes of Ramona, Bethenny’s great one liners, the Countess’s delusion of grandeur, Kelly’s air headness, mixed with the desperate social climbing ambition of Alex and Simon.
The NYC franchise comprises of what the Housewives series was originally about — focusing on great characters rather than grande drama. I actually find myself looking forward to February, when the 3rd season will be back on the air.
TELL US – SO THE QUESTION OF THE DAY IS, WHICH HOUSEWIVES SERIES IS YOUR FAVORITE? AND WHY?
During the second part of the Real Housewives of Atlantareunion, Kim Zolciakattacked our ear drums performed her hit song, ‘Tardy For The Party.’ Kim’s performance was then followed by that of her fellow castmate, Kandi Burruss, who also performed her hit song – ‘Fly Above.’ The contrast between the two performances was quite telling to say the least.
So The Question of The Day Is, Even Though The Song Is a Hit, Was Kim’s Performance A Hit or Miss?
When Kandi Burrussfirst joined the cast of the Atlanta Housewives, no one knew what to expect from this newbie. Throughout all the drama, Kandi has managed to keep her cool in dealing with love, life and drama. During the season, Kandi got along with all the housewives’ except NeNe Leakes. However, in the interview with ESSENCE, she reveals that she and NeNe are cool. The Grammy-winning singer and songwriter also talks about her upcoming album.
Below are excerpts from Kandi’s interview with ESSENCE:
ESSENCE.COM: Now that the reunion show is upon us, do you feel you and NeNe had any resolve?
KANDI BURRUSS: I didn’t really need any resolve. I feel the argument between her and me was so petty. I’m one of those who believes if it’s nothing and she’s cool with me then I’m good too, so let’s keep it moving. I would say that during the cast’s last trip to L.A. we pretty much got along, and I was thinking, okay, she’s cool again. Fine, then let’s be cool.
ESSENCE.COM: Before your fiance’s untimely passing he gave one interview and shared his thoughts about your mom. How’d you feel about what he said?
BURRUSS: I was pretty upset and not feeling too tough about parts of it because it wasn’t necessary. He said that she needs a man, but he tried to hook my mother up with some married guy. I asked him if he was married and A.J. told me no. The first time my mother and this man met, they had a conversation and he told her that he wanted to be honest with her and admitted that he was married, so they never dated or saw each other after that. My mom was angry and called to tell me, and I was like, wel,l I didn’t know. But I try not to harp on that because he’s no longer here, but that was my gut reaction when I read the article.
ESSENCE.COM: Congrats on releasing your EP of your upcoming album, “B.L.O.G.” (B—— Love Online Gossip). Have you been inspired to write a song in memory of A.J.?
BURRUSS: On the EP there’s a song on I’d written earlier on A.J. and my relationship called “I Just Know.” It really could be a wedding song it’s so beautiful and it fit the best point of our relationship. So my holding the release of my album isn’t so much because I want to add songs as a tribute, but it’s too much going on right now and instead of making rush decisions I was like, Let me just slow down after experiencing two deaths back-to-back. Again, this EP will just give my fans a taste of what’s to come on my album.
ESSENCE.COM: Well, we can’t wait after knowing the magic you worked on Kim’s single “Tardy for the Party.” Is there anything you’d like to say in parting?
BURRUSS: I just want to thank everyone for showing so much love and support over these last few weeks, especially those who sent me Twitter messages. Although I wasn’t replying, I really did appreciate them. Every time I got teary-eyed I’d read those messages and they would make me feel better. I don’t know why the kind thought of strangers lifts you up, but they did and I’m so grateful for that kindness.
The 2009Soul Train awards was filmed at the Georgia World Congress Center on November 3, 2009, which of course meant the Real Housewives of Atlanta had to be in attendance.
The awards show, scheduled to air on BET Nov. 29 at 9 pm ET, included a performance by Kandi Burruss and R & B Singer Brian McKnight.
Also in attendance wasLisa Wu Hartwell’s ex-husband, Keith Sweat. Lisa has mentioned in recent interviews that she and Keith are now trying to work out a custody agreement on their own. She made headlines months ago when she announced she would be taking Keith back to court, in an attempt to try to regain custody of their two sons.
