Real Housewives of Atlanta

Fans of The Real Housewives of Atlanta may remember during this season’s reunion show (part 3), there was a $20,000 charity challenge issued. One star promised to donate $20,000 to the charity of the other star’s choice, so long as the other star sent her check first. The charity chosen on the reunion show was the Detroit Public Schools Foundation. It sounded like a grand gesture that would put their previous fundraiser event ‘misunderstanding’ to rest once and for all.

Fast forward to months later when the reunion aired and, after media outlets inquired with DPSF, the organization confirmed that neither star had yet sent their promised $20,000 check to the worthy cause. The stars tried to get out on a technicality, claiming they’d send their donation check only when the other mailed hers (and one even claimed to not remember it all). As a fan of the show and of genuine charitable giving, this didn’t sit well and it has bothered us ever since. We reached out to DPSF this week and they confirmed the status of the checks as still “not received.”  So, we want to do something about it.

Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker Presents:

The verdict is in for Apollo Nida’s restitution amount in his bank fraud case and it’s staggering (but probably less he deserves).  The Real Housewives of Atlanta star owes his victims a total of $1.9 million and, as we reported earlier, was sentenced to eight years in prison

The order was entered this week and a breakdown reveals that Apollo’s largest amounts will go to JP Morgan Chase Bank (828,000), Campus USA Credit Union (277,000), and UP2Drive BMW Bank (100,000).

“Based on the consent motion of the parties and the court’s review of the record in this matter, the court directs defendant Apollo E. Nida to pay restitution to the Clerk of Court I the total amount of $1,948.214.85. This amount is due and payable immediately.  Restitution is payable jointly and severally with the restitution order to be entered in United States v. Gayla O’Neal St. Julien, 1:13-CR-00403-CAP.”

Jill Zarin luncheon

On Sunday, former Real Housewives of New York star Jill Zarin hosted the Second Annual Luxury Ladies Luncheon at her home in Southampton. The event raised money for the Samual Waxman Cancer Research Foundation.

Among the guests, who were treated to lunch, high-end gift bags, trunk shows, beauty treatments, and more, were Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey, former co-stars Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen, Millionaire Matchmaker‘s Patti Stanger, and former Real Housewives of New Jersey star Kathy Wakile.

When asked why she organizes the event, Jill shared, “It’s a very complicated event in the sense that there’s no one reason that I do it. I do it because I want to give stuff to my friends, I do it because I want to raise awareness for charity, and I do it because I want to have a good time.” I will volunteer as tribute if Jill wants to give me free stuff. ;) Check out more pictures below.

Jill Zarin is still dining out on her whole used to be on Real Housewives of New York thing by inviting a host of former and present Bravolebrities to participate in a charity luncheon at her Hamptons home which she has dubbed “Camp Zarin”.

The luncheon, which boasted such esteemed celebrities as Patti Stanger, LuAnn de Lesseps, Alex McCord, and Kathy Wakile, raised proceeds for the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Center.

The event was catered by Chef Roblé of Bravo fame as well – and Cynthia Bailey also attended! Wait – she hasn’t been fired – what was she doing there?!

Sister 2 Sister Ladies Night

Some Real Housewives of Atlanta fans can’t get enough details and info on Apollo Nida’s fraud case and prison sentence.  For those people/fans, we now have the court documents that spell out the terms of Apollo’s guilty plea and the probation highlights, too.

Apollo pled guilty to one count of Conspiracy to Commit Bank Fraud – all other charges were dismissed.  Apollo was sentenced to 96 months in prison, but he may get out early if he attends a drug rehabilitation program during his stint in the big house.

According to court docs filed last week, Apollo will be on supervision for five years after he’s released.  The terms of his supervision are pretty standard, with community service hours to be served, no hanging out with other felons, etc.   Apollo also can’t open any new credit cards or lines of credit without approval and more.

Also worth noting is that Apollo will pay restitution.  The amount will be decided at a later date, but the court waives the cost of his incarceration and no fine has to be paid.

Am I watching the same Real Housewives of Atlanta that Cynthia Bailey is?  Because “positive” is not the word that immediately comes to mind when I think of our illustrious scepter Bedroom Kandi Felonious Husband Wig peach-wielding women of Bravo!

Despite the brawls, the bickering, and the bad behavior Cynthia still feels the show sets a positive and empowering example for women! She does? “I don’t think anyone felt good about that situation,” Cynthia admits about the reunion brawl. “However, I do think that in so many other ways, we are still a great platform and are great examples of empowerment.”

Kandi's Wedding finale

This week’s reality TV viewer numbers are in – and a lot of people tuned in to see Todd Tucker and Kandi Burruss get married. The finale of Kandi’s Wedding garnered 2.820 million viewers. That brings the season average to 2.49 million. For comparison’s sake, Tamra’s OC Wedding‘s average was 1.37 million viewers and I Dream of NeNe‘s average was 1.53 million viewers.

Married to Medicine‘s season finale attracted 1.917 million fans, which is a whopping 1.1 million MORE viewers than last week. Leading into the reunion specials, the season two average is 1.76 million. While I think it’s obvious that Married to Medicine cannot stand on its own (the numbers plummeted both times RHOA didn’t air in front of it), I think Bravo will grant it a third season.

kenya moore orange dress bet awards

I was almost as interested in learning Apollo Nida‘s sentence as I was in hearing Kenya Moore‘s reaction. I was expecting something priceless, with props, and tons of shade! Maybe a new song – Gone With The Wind – In Prison Stripes?

However, Kenya, much to her credit, kept her response subdued and classy, tweeting: “You can’t kick someone while they’re down even if they’re trying to trip you. Offer them a hand instead. #KillThemWithKindness.” Wait – isn’t that a Phaedra Parks-ism? #Kidding
