Joan Rivers, take-no-prisoners commentator on life, and a true icon passed away yesterday.
I’ve always loved Joan. I heard an NPR interview with her years ago where she described using humor and wit to pull herself up by her bootstraps after her husband’s suicide left her financially decimated and alone. It not only inspired me, it filled me with awe and had me bawling in the car. Joan never shied away from the truth – whether it was about herself or others. And it was that bravery that made her so beloved.
It’s women like Joan who have allowed me to do what I do today: have a job where I snark full-time to make people laugh, because she was one of the few who forged that path by demonstrating that women are irreverent, sarcastic, and that complaining can be therapeutic as well as entertaining. The Oscars will be sadder this year without Joan to question what celebs are wearing and what they were thinking when they put it on. I will miss her greatly.
Andy Cohen, a close friend of Joan’s who has worked with her for years, reminisced about the amazing woman he knew and shared that when she passed they were in the middle of pitching a reality show they developed together this summer.
Amber defends her husband Jim Marchese from Dina Manzo saying on tonight’s episode that his level of douche was equivalent to the size of a whale’s vagina. “I don’t think she knows my husband well enough. She never gave him the chance or the time of day. When you know him, you love him.”
Co-guest David Arquette remarks that the way Jim was talking down to the ladies wasn’t cool. Amber says “you have to understand I was just attacked downstairs and we come upstairs and they’re like all trying to come at him.”
David then tells her that Jim’s talking head interview where he spews about being a lawyer and will sue and take people down, blah blah, “also not a good look,” he says. I love David Arquette. But then he adds “he seems like a sweet enough guy but..” and Amber jumps in with “but watch out, he’ll sue you.” Awkward. She seems to be the only one who finds it funny.
Joe and Melissa Gorga were in Andy’s clubhouse to dish on tonight’s episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey.Joe and Melissa answered questions about everything from how much money they really put out for their new garbage company, whether they’re building that dream home yet and when we can expect a new Melissa Gorga album!
Melissa on who she thinks was at fault in the fight between Amber Marchese and the twins: “I feel like Amber came in very strong, but I know Nicole pulled the first hair. I feel like they both equally… I don’t think anyone should put their hands on anyone, that I will say.”
On the new house, the Gorgas say they just started building the new one. And Melissa wanted to make it clear that she does like the rental house they’re in. Interesting since she says she’s moving back to Montville..
Andy starts off by showing the scene from the episode where Amber is talking ish with Melissa, claiming that she heard Nicole broke up someone’s marriage. Nicole says, “Amber just likes attention and if she’s gonna get it by making up lies and stories, so be it.”
On stopping by Amber’s house and not going in to clear up the gossip, Teresa says “We were going to confront Amber but out of the decency for her children we did not confront her that night and ring her doorbell because the children were there.” Nicole says there was no stalking going on. they pulled up and saw the kids were still up and they pulled away.
Tonight’s episode of Real Housewives of Orange Countywas another dinner party from hell and Tamra Judge headed off to NYC to defend herself and the events of the evening on Watch What Happens Live. The reality star swears she didn’t do anything wrong as she reacted to questions from Andy and the show’s fans.
Andy jumps right in to share with Tamra the fans’ reactions toward her on Twitter tonight after the episode. “Tamra, you’re getting roasted on Twitter.” She retorts, “Good, I’m doing my job then.” When Andy asks if she’s been reading them she says “No, I don’t really get into the whole Twitter..” Andy laughs, not buying it.
Andy mentions that Vicki Gunvalson is a whole a new person this season, sitting by and not jumping into the drama. Tamra throws shade with a “no comment” face and eye roll.
The happy newlyweds shared that they were thrilled with the way the wedding reception went. They wanted it to be a big party and were happy at how much fun it was.
Kandi explained to Andy that the reason the wedding started so late is that they put down for guests to arrive at 5pm. The wedding was on a Friday and the figured with traffic, etc, that they'd be able to get it going by 7pm but the dresses weren't finished, so that caused a delay as well.
Kandi Burruss was in the Bravo clubhouse tonight to chat up Andy and answer questions from viewers about tonight's episode ofKandi's Wedding. They talk strippers, prenups, unruly mothers and the possibility of babies.
They dive right in and get to the subject of the clause in the prenup that says Todd Tucker gets nothing in the event of Kandi's death. "Well there were a couple of extra things in there. Maybe one or two. But I removed that. My thing was, overall, there was nothing major that we couldn't just change – like the one or two things that he said was a real problem. The only things his lawyer kept saying were things that were financial. And I'm like 'you and I already discussed this. We were supposed to be on the same page.' What is he talking about?"
Did anything she saw at Todd's bachelor party upset her? "No. Stuff like that doesn't bother me. I know some women have a problem with the stripper thing, but we're in Atlanta, that's normal."
Kenya Moore sat down with Andy to share her thoughts and feelings on the Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion fight withPorsha Stewart, her issues with NeNe Leakes, her attempts to get pregnant and more. It was a little shocking to see that Kenya decided to play this interview completely mellow and level and not her usual high strung, over the top theatrical self.
Andy starts the chat by saying he feels like the viewers have taken Porsha's side in the brawl incident. Kenya replied, "I don't know if it's surprising as it is sad. I don't think that when you take someone's side of who has attacked someone and for someone to say 'she made me do it' or 'she deserved that', I think it's a sad commentary for people who would take her side in that."
Does Kenya think she was being a bully? "I think by definition a bully is someone who torments a weaker person. I think that term is not appropriate here."
Andy shared that the props are at the root of the allegation that she provoked Porsha. "I don't think the props had anything to do with being provocative at all. I think that there was a plan in place prior to the reunion to come and attack me."
