Basketball Wives

The upcoming episode of Basketball Wives is shaping up to be the most dramatic of the season.

Last week Evelyn Lozada confronted long time friend Jennifer Williams about some things she said in a radio interview.  Tonight everything comes to a head as Tami breaks into Evelyn’s hotel room so that Jennifer and Evelyn can hopefully make amends. Also Tami and Meeka get into a fist fight which might have led to Meeka quitting the show. But more on that later!

As for that infamous radio interview, Jen is still defending what she said. She tells Hollywood Life, “[E]verything I said in that interview, I have said before and to her face in Season Two.” Jennifer also discusses Evelyn’s reaction to the interview, and how she wishes that Evelyn had confronted her first, instead of allowing the drama to fester.

Jen says, “I also feel like all the talks with Noe, Shaunie and Tami were unnecessary. I have known Evelyn for over a decade and if she has an issue with me she should have come straight to me. Talking to a bunch of people only instigates things and when Evelyn gets mad she just lets it build, instead of dealing with it right away in a calm manner.”

While she stands behind her statements, Jen hopes this drama will not be the end of her friendship with Evelyn. She continues, “I do want to say that as a friend I would never do anything intentional to hurt anyone’s feelings. Evelyn and I have been through a lot and hopefully we will make it over this hurdle as well.”

Moving on to Tami Roman and Meeka Claxton as they have had a rocky relationship (if you could even call it that) all season, and Tami has been making not so subtle digs at Meeka throughout the ladies’ Italian getaway. Those digs become blows this evening as the women get into a knock-down-drag-out brawl while out clubbing in Rome.

The fight has resulted in a lawsuit with Meeka suing her co-star for assault and battery. Tami responded on her twitter page, “I was unaware of this pending lawsuit until getting word from my publicist, to which I have no comment.” She later added, “I was defending myself-I didn’t attack her.” Guess we’ll have to see on tonight’s episode.

The TV Guide preview also states someone will quit the show tonight. All signs are pointing to Meeka! Wowzers. And finally, the reunion is taping today. Here’s to hoping Tami the ladies will keep their hands to themselves.

SHOULD EVELYN HAVE GONE TO JENNIFER FIRST? WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON REGARDING TAMI VERSUS MEEKA?

On last night’s episode of Basketball Wives, Evelyn receives Jen’s interview and confronts her BFF, while Shaunie and Tami try their best to play peacemakers. Meeka feels the wrath of Tami, Royce is still MIA, and Suzie prays she continues flying under the radar so as not to be the brunt of the mean girls’ frustrations!

In Italia, the ladies go shopping and take full advantage of their time abroad by making fun of Royce, and this time, it’s Tami, not Suzie sticking up for her. Suzie and Tami wax poetic about the architecture interspersed with musings about Meeka’s talking out of her a*s at the previous night’s dinner. For someone who wanted to stay out of things, Suzie keeps getting pulled into the mix, as Meeka then pulls her aside to discuss how Meeka has never said anything bad about Royce and how she doesn’t care if Tami doesn’t like her. Sure, we’ll go with that.

Meeka feels like it’s four (Evelyn, Tami, Shaunie and Jennifer) against one, and she’s the odd-man-out…and Suzie, she’s a non-factor (of the muthaf*ckin’ variety, I assume) as she never takes sides during fights. At lunch, Tami starts talking to Shaunie about how she doesn’t like being put in situations where she has to hang out with people she doesn’t like…which would be understandable if she wasn’t sitting across from Meeka when she begins the conversation. Seriously? She is goes from passive aggressively talking about Meeka to aggressively talking to at Meeka. Did they start drinking at breakfast, because this is clearly an alcohol fueled confrontation…or at least I hope it is.

On tonight’s Basketball Wives, Evelyn Lozado confronts Jennifer Williams about a radio interview she gave regarding Evelyn’s engagement to Chad Ochocinco. On last week’s episode, Evelyn and her friend Noe implied Jennifer was jealous of the engagement, and Jennifer is now speaking out about it.

Jennifer tells the HollywoodLife, “I just want to clear the air about this whole Evelyn and Chad engagement. Evelyn did not call and tell me that she got engaged, she tweeted something and people starting asking me. So I was waiting for her to call me and tell me the news, and she didn’t tell me for quite some time.”

Watching last week’s episode was surprising to her as well. She reveals, “For her and Noe to imply that I was jealous was a little shocking. I have no need to be jealous, I have been married and I know what it is like to be a wife.” And now she’ll know what it feels like to be an ex-wife once her divorce to Eric Williams is finalized.

Jennifer claims she was merely stating her concerns about her friend’s relationship with Chad. In fact she reveals she told Evelyn the same, admitting, “When I did speak to her [about her engagement], I expressed my concerns because she had just gotten out of a bad relationship and I didn’t want to see her hurt again. Evelyn and I were friends way before this show. I have watched her and helped her through two breakups with Antoine Walker just as she has watched me get married and helped me cope with my divorce.”

Moving right along to sh*t stirrer Shaunie O’Neal who has recently spoken out about, specifically the portrayal of black women on the show. With the new Los Angeles cast already raising eyebrows, Shaunie has a lot to say, and she’s mainly pointing fingers at the West Coast ladies for being ‘trashy.’ She tells BET, “The L.A. cast — there are some wives and fiancés, which I’m fine with. But there’s a little bit of trash kind of sprinkled into that cast that I’m totally against.”

In case you planned on blaming her for any Los Angeles drama, as she is Executive Producer of the series, Shaunie is quick to say, “I was really very hands off with that cast. It’s just drama and…that’s not my vision. I don’t think that all money is good money. I don’t need it that bad. So we are having some issues.” So how is the show’s creator handing the issues? Two words: she’s not. Why would she? Issues create drama and drama drives the ratings! Although according to Shaunie, it seems she lost the fight to have less drama. She admits, “I’ve kind of just had to take a backseat and shut up and just let it go, let it ride. It’s David and Goliath right now.”

So tonight’s battle will be between Jennifer and Evelyn over the radio interview, while next season’s battle will be between the Executive Producer and the new cast stealing said producer’s limelight over acting like ladies and not causing drama. Can’t wait to see how each plays out!

DO YOU THINK JENNIFER IS JEALOUS OVER EVELYN’S ENGAGEMENT? DO YOU BELIEVE SHAUNIE WANTS LESS DRAMA ON THE SHOW?

On last night’s Basketball Wives, Royce’s relationship is questioned by Suzie, and Jen and Evelyn channel their inner Jenna Jamesons while planning a divorce party for Jen. Shaunie decides to surprise her friends (that would be “everyone except Royce”) with a trip to Italy where Tami puts Meeka in the hot seat. First Jersey Shore, then Basketball Wives? I’m sure Italy HATES us.

Meeka and Jen meet up to discuss Jen’s blind date in New York. Jen admits that she was nervous at first, but overall she had a really good time. They relive the statement when Jen accidentally said she doesn’t like big things in her mouth, and Meeka thinks it’s the quiet ones you have to watch, because, you know that whole “lady in the streets” mantra.

Jen and Evelyn have a wine night to catch up on Evelyn’s reunion with her father and Jen’s date. Evelyn is very surprised that Meeka set up Jen, and feels her attempt at matchmaking proves that Meeka “tries too hard to be down.” She doesn’t think that Meeka knows Jen well enough to know what type of guy would be well-suited for her…and who sets up their (barely) friend up on a date with someone with the same name as said friend’s husband? Evelyn wants to know if Jen’s hit him yet..?? Does she mean doing the dirty diddle or physical assault? My bad, she means has Jen called him. No, she hasn’t, so I’m guessing it’s a negative to sex and violence as well.

After taking heat for the portrayal of black women on Vh1’s Basketball Wives, Executive drama starter Producer, Shanunie O’Neal is speaking out in an article she wrote for, of all places, CNN.

Explaining her motivation for creating Basketball Wives, Shaunie describes: “I wanted to show what life is really like when you are with a professional athlete — and that sometimes all that glitters isn’t gold…” Of course, what came with that was non-stop drama off the court that totally eclipsed anything happening on it!

Of course, Shaunie defends her money making venture show and all the screaming and backstabbing that goes with it (because otherwise who would watch): “As you see on the show, I’m not a big supporter of the bickering, drink throwing and fighting, but when you put a group of strong, independent and vocal women who are going through or just came out of a bad relationship together, there’s bound to be a little drama…”

As for criticism of how black women are depicted on Basketball Wives, according to Shaunie she is well aware: “I certainly understand the opinion that the shows portrayal of black women is beginning to look somewhat negative. ” Shaunie goes onto describe: “The problem for me is when black women are portrayed as only being that way and labeled different than their non-black counterparts for the same type of behavior. That’s when it becomes negative and damaging to our image.” Good point – I think some recent episodes of Real Housewives of Orange County demonstrate that!

Shaunie better have her defenses up for the upcoming Basketball Wives: Los Angeles because the dramz has already started! NBA star Gilbert Arenas is claiming castmember Laura Govan who is the baby mama of his three children with another on the way, is illegally exploiting him by participating in the show so, according to TMZ, he is suing to prevent the show from airing!

According to the lawsuit, even though he will not be mentioned by name on the show, his name was already used in the press release to describe Govan’s relationship to professional basketball and “the very presence of defendant Govan and the title of the show is an obvious reference to [Arenas].” In addition to asking the judge to issue an injunction banning the show from airing, Arenas also wants cold hard cash.

Arenas also asserts Govan isn’t a Basketball Wife (true, but are ANY of them?!) but signed up for the show because she wants her 15 minutes of fame on the Tee Vee. Laura who was with Arenas for years but never married, also allegedly had an affair with Shaunie’s ex husband Shaquille O’Neal! Yikes! A picture of Arenas is below.

So, what do you think of Shaunie’s explaination of how Basketball Wives portrays black women? Will you be watching Basketball Wives: Los Angeles?

On last night’s episode of Basketball Wives, Meeka Claxton crosses Tami Roman, Suzie Ketcham crosses Royce Reed, Eric Williams crosses Jen Williams, Evelyn Lozado has some family issues, and Shaunie O’Neal is absent!

The episode starts out with Royce meeting Ashley and Suzie for breakfast to fill Ashley in on the ‘altercation’ she got into with Evelyn because Royce isn’t ghetto but she is hood. Suzie is suddenly seeing things from Evelyn and Jen’s perspective and encourages Royce to stop causing drama because she wants everyone to hold hands and skip through rainbows and just be friends! My have the tables turned from last season… Royce reveals exactly why she is sick of Evelyn – and it has to do with, ahem, how Evelyn being a ho… allegedly of course.

Evelyn and Jen have a relaxing spa day where using their ‘we’re so classy’ hush-hush voices they talk about how ho-ish Royce is and complain about her tweeting Eric. The conversation rapidly escalates into why Royce has a different boyfriend every other month. Wait – so dating is wrong according to these two? Evelyn decides Royce can’t call her a ho because she is one too – so, HA!

On last night’s episode of Basketball Wives, the drama between Evelyn Lozada and Royce Reed explodes, Meeka interviews both sides to see which one she’d rather be on and tries to get into Shaunie‘s good graces, Evelyn starts the IVF process, and Suzie attempts to be the peacemaker!

The show starts out with Royce and Suzie playing tennis – Royce obviously forgetting that tennis doesn’t involve a pool or a beach shows up practically wearing a bikini. She and Suzie talk about all the drama with Meeka, Evelyn, and Jen; Suzie – trying not to be involved suggests they all have a sit down so Royce can play 20 Questions and ask everyone who said: what? when? where? why? about her.

Just in case you haven’t had enough of reality shows, VH1 is working on yet another one that will feature the wives and exes of basketball players. “Basketball Wives” will follow and highlight the glamorous lives of the loves and ex-loves of basketball players such as Shaquille O’Neal, Eric Williams, Antoine Walker, Jermaine O’Neal and Udonis Haslem. The 30 min docu-series is set to premiere on March 15, next year.

This is interesting since Shaunie (Shaq’s wife) and executive producer of “Basketball Wives” recently filed for legal separation with intent to divorce on Monday in LA, citing irreconcilable differences.

Below are excerpts from the press release for Basketball Wives:

VH1 has teamed up with the wives and girlfriends of some of the NBA’s most elite players to give the viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the glamorous life of a professional basketball player’s wife in VH1’s original series, Basketball Wives. Production is set to begin on the series in December 2009. The eight-episode 30-minute series is set to premiere on March 15, 2010.

This series is about the insider life of the wives, girlfriends and a few ex-wives of some of the biggest ballers in the game. These ladies live the life. They drive the best cars, live in the biggest mansions, wear designer clothes and jewelry and only travel first class. But living the high life is not all glamour. In order to protect it, they have to deal with the jealousies and dramas of living in — and staying in — the inner circle. They must also keep the groupies at bay while their husbands and boyfriends are traveling on the road for over six months of the year playing ball all-the-while wondering if their spouses are being faithful to them.

The cast is filled with the wives and ex-wives of superstars including Jennifer Williams (wife of Eric Williams), Evelyn Lozada (ex-fiancé of Antoine Walker), Mesha O’Neal (wife of Jermaine O’Neal), Royce Reed, Faith Rain (Udonis Haslem’s girlfriend) and Shaunie O’Neal (wife of Shaquille O’Neal) who will also serve as executive producer on the series.
