Bethenny Frankel

UPDATE – The HollyWood Reporter reported in April that Bethenny Frankel sold her Skinnygirl cocktail line to Fortune Brands’ Beam Global for $120 million! You can read more about that by clicking here.

According to a new report, Bethenny Frankel is not happy with the way she is being portrayed on her Bravo reality show Bethenny Ever After.

See, just four episodes into the season, some fans of the show as well as critics feel Bethenny is the villain of her own show, citing the treatment of her in-laws to being too hard on hubby Jason Hoppy.

And now the RumorFix is reporting that Bethenny is well aware of the backlash and feels she is being portrayed as “mean” on the show. She is reportedly now demanding producers re-edit episodes of her show to portray her in a better light.

Sources reveal that Bethenny is upset that some blogs are calling her out on her alleged bad behavior. The Jewish Journal referred to her as being “mean, selfish, and narcissistic.”

It seems Bethenny is not only the star of her show but also the executive producer though she hadn’t really exercised any control until now. “Bethenny is making producers re-cut all the shows to make her nicer — even the shows that have already aired. You will notice the rerun is different,” says the source.

In other Bethenny news, she continues to enjoy a reign of success as she just sold her “Skinnygirl” spirits brand to Fortune Brand’s Beam Global Spirits & Wine unit for an undisclosed amount

“Partnering with Fortune Brands and Beam Global was the right move at this time,” said Bethenny in a statement to CNN. “I created a new category that needs their muscle and distribution to take this concept worldwide in the immediate future.”

Bethenny appeared on GMA this morning, during which she stated the brand simply got too big for her to handle and that she will still be involved in the development process of the Skinnygirl brand.

Bethenny’s new book, “A Place of Yes: 10 Rules for Getting Everything You Want Out of Life” also hits the shelves today.

According to Bethenny, “a place of yes” doesn’t always mean being positive or agreeing with others. “It means that you go for what you know you can have in your gut,” she told GMA. “I’m not a yes-man by any stretch of the imagination. Right now…I say ‘no’ to a lot more than I used to because that’s saying yes to myself.”

TELL US – THOUGHTS ON THE REPORT? DO YOU THINK BETHENNY IS MEAN?

An all new episode of Bethenny Ever After airs tonight on Bravo at 10/9c.

On the new episode titled “It’s My Baptism and I’ll Cry If I Want To,” Gina takes Bethenny, Jason and Bryn to her Trinidadian church to give Bryn a “blessing.” Once the ceremony is underway, Jason and Bethenny suddenly realize it seems much more like a baptism than just a simple blessing. Feeling misguided and upset, Bethenny and Jason explain their feelings to Gina. Meanwhile, Jason’s parents come to New York for Bryn’s official Christening ceremony and also get to join in the fun of her first Halloween.

In other Bethenny Frankel news, her former assistant Max Meisel is now speaking out and attempting to defend himself following a firing scolding by Bethenny on last week’s episode. Bethenny stated Max was slacking on the job, was more interested in the glitz than the actual work, and had become a liability, citing an incident in which he asked her husband Jason Hoppy for a condom.

In his Bravo blog, Max defends himself, stating while he wasn’t perfect, he was a good employee and that boundaries should not have been a problem stating that on the “third day on the job Bethenny asked me the oldest girl I’ve had sex with.” Excerpts from Max’s blog below in which he seems to take some not so subtle shots at Bethenny -

“Alrighty, so before you write me off as the worst assistant on the planet, please hear me out… The conversation with Jason about condoms at the SkinnyGirl Party was taken way out of context. As inappropriate as it sounded, it didn’t take place exactly how it was pitched. It was a “guys talking at a bar”-kind of situation, however, I understand it was the wrong thing to talk about. I hold Jason in extremely high regard and I would never intentionally do anything to demean that. I didn’t mean to cross a line. I didn’t know where the boundaries began and where they ended. My third day on the job Bethenny asked me the oldest girl I’ve had sex with. It seemed as if some days there there were boundaries and some days there were none.

Bethenny made a very bold statement about my motives for wanting to become her assistant. She believes I wanted to be around for the attention and the “red carpet glitz.” The way she spoke, you’d think I had been hanging with Cameron Diaz and Mark Wahlberg as a result of working for her. I can assure you, although Bethenny has risen in popularity substantially over the last few years, I didn’t look towards her as the fast track to popularity.

I can’t begin to explain how out of my comfort zone I’ve been with every task I’ve performed. From picking thongs out of a drawer to building a crib, from purchasing her underwear to picking out her wardrobe, it’s all been as foreign as learning Chinese. I want to reiterate that I’m not making excuses for my mistakes. I acknowledge that I haven’t always been in top form. I’m writing this to shed a different shade of light on the situation.”

Interesting comments by Max. A preview clip of the new episode is below.  Max Meisel photo credit – Jesse Dittmar.

TELL US – THOUGHTS ON MAX’S COMMENTS? PLUS TONIGHT’S NEW EPISODE OF BEA?

A new episode of Bethenny Ever After airs tonight on Bravo at 10/9c.

On the third episode this season titled “Business as Usual,” business is booming for Bethenny but not quite fast enough when it comes to the growth of Skinnygirl Margarita. When Bethenny realizes that liquor stores are unable to replenish their supply quick enough, she enlists Jason to help to figure out the problem. Bethenny then faces the consequences of her boundary issues with other important people in her life – namely her intern Max and her broken hearted baby nurse Gina – she realizes she must find balance in all of these relationships before things spiral out of control. A preview clip is below.

In other news, the always outspoken Ramona Singer had some interesting critique for her pal Bethenny Frankel, during an interview with the Miami Herald to promote her line of pinot grigio available for $13.99 at thewinebuyer.com.

But back to Ramona’s comments, as she, similar to some fans of BEA, takes issue with the way Bethenny treats her in-laws on the show. “How could she not embrace her child’s grandparents?’’ Ramona asked. “That was shocking to me.’’

And finally, Bethenny is launching her own shapewear line. It is called Skinnygirl Shapewear and includes a collection of camis, tanks, half-slips, high-waisted briefs, and leggings, complete with sexy designs and lace detailing, aimed to conceal all the unwanted bulges in all the right places.

“The line ranges from tank tops in black or beige to my signature color, red, which is a confidence color, and a little daring, but not white because it can make anyone look bigger,” Bethenny tells WWD of the collection.

But unlike the Squeez shapewear line of Bethenny’s former BFF Jill Zarin (and no, we’re not certain which line came first), Bethenny reveals her collection offers more than just panty-smoothing pieces. She describes some of the items as “lazy lingerie” such as a sexy apron with a bra, which she states is “a fun item with a little skirt you might wear for Valentine’s Day to wake up … and fix your husband breakfast in.”

The items will sell for $20-$40 and will be available on Skinnygirlshapers.com.

TELL US – THOUGHTS ON RAMONA’S COMMENTS, THE PREVIEW & TONIGHT’S NEW EPISODE? DOES BETHENNY TREAT HER IN-LAWS BADLY?

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that actress and Skating With The Stars alum Sean Young has joined the latest cast of Celebrity Rehab.

Sean will be replacing Real Housewives of DC star Michaele Salahi, 45, who got kicked off the show for not having an addiction. Michaele’s husband Tareq Salahi has admitted his wife has no substance abuse issues but claims she needed treatment to deal with the stress of managing her multiple sclerosis which she claims to have had for over 20 years. Which makes us wonder, if she’s had the MS for 20+ years, why would she need Celebrity Rehab with dealing with it now?

As suspected, the MS story seems to be a crock with a source telling RadarOnline this week that Dr. Drew Pinsky ran a number of extensive neurological tests, which all came out negative for MS or any other neurological issues.

There was also a rumor floating around this week that professional famewhore Heidi Montag would be joining the show, but that report is false.

And finally, the ABC network will be airing a 20/20 special tonight titled “The Phenomenon of Reality Television.” The special promises an in depth look at reality stars who are famous for being famous including the Bravo Housewives, while also examining those who are cashing in.

Numerous reality stars are being interviewed for the special, most notably The Salahis, Bethenny Frankel and even Kyle Richards.

The special will examine why things often turn so nasty on the Bravo Housewives series. Part of the press release states “20/20 talks to Kyle Richards of the Beverley Hills show about the ugly showdown with her sister Kim, and to Michaele and Tareq Salahis (best known for gate crashing the White House), who say why they believe the other DC Housewives turned against them.”

As for Bethenny, her segment will be more on the cashing in part. She tells “20/20″ that being the focus her own show, “Bethenny Ever After,” has both its rewards and challenges. “Do I speak inappropriately? Absolutely. Is it at my own expense and no one else’s? Absolutely. I don’t need to rip anybody else. I rip myself more than anyone else,” reveals Bethenny.

The special airs at 10/9c. Feel free to discuss the latest news plus the 20/20 special below!

In one her most revealing/honest interviews to date, Bethenny Frankel discusses a number of topics including her run on Martha Stewart’s The Apprentice (she was the runner up), but most notable are Bethenny’s comments against the show that made her a star.

Bethenny, who quit the Real Housewives of New York City last year, takes her strongest stance to date against the Bravo hit show, stating that “women should not be rewarded for bad behavior.” Bethenny also discusses Jill Zarin, and her regret in doing Skating With The Stars. Excerpts from Bethenny’s interview with TV Guide below -

TV Guide Magazine: Flashback to 2005. You were a culinary school grad with a made-for-TV personality — did you think The Apprentice would be your big break?
Frankel: Oh, it was fool’s gold! I had a cookie company that was losing money and I was driving a $500 piece-of-junk car — I looked like a crack dealer — and I thought it was going to save me. I had a whole plan in my head: “Martha is getting older, and she will be smart enough to have me come on board.”

TV Guide Magazine: And…?
Frankel: Meeting her was a disappointment. I thought she would be as warm and fuzzy as her brand — like she’d want to bake you cupcakes. Sometimes when you meet your idol, it doesn’t live up to your expectations.

TV Guide Magazine: Then along came Housewives.
Frankel: For two months I turned it down. But I just kept thinking about it — with my business ideas, I had a tree with fruit ripe for the picking. Finally I said yes.

TV Guide Magazine: Is it a relief to be through with Housewives?
Frankel: Yes. Women should not be rewarded for bad behavior. The show evolved — or devolved — into something that is not even remotely who I am. The last season was excruciating.

TV Guide Magazine: You and former BFF Jill had a major on-air falling out. Have you reconciled?
Frankel: She never contacted me after the reunion show. She’d been contacting me for days upon days up until then, because I think she was nervous about how it would come off. I do not think her apology was genuine.

TV Guide Magazine: How is it having Bryn in the mix?
Frankel: She’s now 9, 10 months old and she can see the boom [microphone] — and Jason and I have started to talk about how long we would do this. I don’t know that I’d want to go on forever with her.

TV Guide Magazine: This season, we’ll see you struggle with your in-laws over their complaints that you don’t spend enough time with them….
Frankel: It strikes a chord — you’re not mad at me, you’re not mad at them, they’re nice people. But watching it, you’ll see the passive-aggressive comments that made me feel crazy. In my life, in many cases I look like the bad guy. But sometimes it’s like, maybe she’s not entirely insane.

In a separate interview with USA today, Bethenny expresses some regret in her decision to do ABC’s Skating With The Stars, which ended up being a ratings disaster.

“I just think it was not a wise decision. I had a new baby, crazy career and there was just no reason to put myself through that. I just thought it was fun and it was going to be ice skating,” said Bethenny. “I was painfully thin. I was just miserable. It was the single most excruciating experience of my life. And everyone took it so seriously.”

And finally, some good news for Bethenny as the ratings of her show Bethenny Ever After climbed 10% from last week, with 1.66 million viewers tuning in on Monday night. However, the ratings are still a bit down from last season’s average of 1.9 million viewers.

TELL US – THOUGHTS ON BETHENNY’S LATEST COMMENTS?

A new episode of Bethenny Ever After airs tonight on Bravo at 10/9c.

On the second episode of this season titled “There Is No Normal,” Bethenny Frankel’s back in New York and in the fast lane as she attends a party honoring her as one of US Weekly’s most stylish people. The next day, Jason talks about visiting his parents again and although Bethenny tries to remain calm, she hits a nerve when she tries to stand her ground.

Taking some time away from it all, Jason and Bethenny head out for a much needed date night. But what starts out as a great evening takes a turn for the worse when Bethenny reveals that she’s angry at Jason for judging her feelings about what’s “normal” when it comes to family. All is forgiven in the end, but this conversation is far from over. A preview clip is below.

In other Bethenny news, Jill Zarin is now opening up about her former friendship with her during their Real Housewives of New York City days.

In a new interview with Popeater, Jill shockingly states that her friendship with Bethenny was never real. “The truth is, I don’t even remember being friends with her anymore,” Jill told Popeater. “You know, when I see her picture and when I see her on TV, I don’t even remember our relationship. Which kinda says something.”

“People thought we came into the show with that romance,” adds Jill. “We didn’t. We fell in love on TV and we got a divorce on TV.”

Oh but it gets better when Jill is asked if her friendship with Bethenny was the real deal. “It was real! Well, I thought the friendship was real. Clearly, it was not,” she stated.

TELL US – WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON JILL’S COMMENTS & TONIGHT’S EPISODE OF BEA?

It seems Bethenny Frankel is now starting to experience the pitfalls of fame, as she is now referring to the paparazzi as ‘disgusting rats’ days after bikini photos of her in Miami Beach hit the net.

“You don’t understand, I’ve never had that experience before where I couldn’t go to the beach,” said Bethenny to USA TODAY while chatting about her new show Bethenny Ever After.

“I went out to the beach and these photographers were on top of my chair. The beach guys were bringing us umbrellas and shoving us in. I’ve never seen it like that. They were like rats. It was disgusting,” explains Bethenny, 40. “They were begging, ‘Please let us have a picture of the baby.’ I was like, get away from me.”

Bethenny adds that the fact that she had her baby with her was what made the whole experience difficult. “I was so upset. I came back, I was like on house arrest in my building. I don’t care if it was me five years ago, being single and hot in a bikini — then I’d be like ‘Hey, woohoo!” But with the baby it felt really gross.”

In other Bethenny news, the second season of her Bravo spin-off show Bethenny Ever After premiered on Monday night and the ratings proved to be so-so.

With 1.5 million viewers tuning in to BEA, the ratings were down 28% from the 2.2 million viewers who watched the season 1 premiere. And down 21% from the 1.9 million viewers the show averaged last season. Only time will tell if the ratings remain steady or continue to slip.

TELL US – WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON BETHENNY’S COMMENTS?

Not so great ratings and negative reviews in tow, the show must go on, and it did last night as Bravo aired the second episode of the Real Housewives of Miami.

While episode 2 didn’t seem to help matters that much, a single phone call via Lea Black on Watch What Happens Live last night did seem to bring some glimmer of hope. Perhaps this season won’t be all that bad after all. More on this later.

The episode begins with Adriana having a convo with fiance Frederic as the two have a surprisingly not awkward conversation about Adriana and her love for guys. The topic then turns to the catwalk drama involving the other ladies. Adriana gets it right when she refers to Larsa and Cristy as high school “mean girls” in her interview, but gets it wrong when she states she did not make a fool of herself on the catwalk.
