American Idol has come to an end… for now… and I, for one, am sad. Last night, Trent Harmon was named the Season 15 winner, and the “bookend” toKelly Clarkson. Today, both Trent and La’Porsha Renae signed major record deals, however. Both well deserved.
As an American Idol super fan (and I’m not ashamed to admit it), I loved every minute of the finale, though I did feel a little bad for this season’s finalists, who were reduced to singing backup and rolling a gift for Ryan Seacrest onto the stage. Instead of the usual finalist & artist pairings, we were treated to non-stop performances by past American Idol contestants, including Chris Daughtry,Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, and more. Sadly, a very pregnant Kelly wasn’t able to attend, but she did pre-tape a medley of her greatest hits, ending with an acappella “A Moment Like This.”
I have a confession. I love American Idol. In 13 years, I haven’t ever missed an episode, and it’s one of the few shows I watch the night it airs. Not live, mind you, because I need the power to fast forward. I constantly try to fast forward the commercials if I watch a show live. The struggle is real.
On Wednesday, I was pleasantly surprised when Nick Fradiani was named the winner of American Idol 14. Quentin Alexander was my favorite contestant this season. After he was eliminated, I was rooting for Nick, but I thought Clark Beckham had it in the bag.
“Everybody was saying I was kind of the underdog, and I think that’s true,” said Nick. He added that expected Clark or Jax to win. “Nobody had me pegged as the winner. I wasn’t doing anything that was really impressing people. Then something clicked the last six weeks or so. I got hot at the right time.” Check out pictures from the Season 14 finale of American Idol below.
Our favorite reality TV stars can't get enough of the spotlight during their regularly scheduled time slots, so they take to Twitter to share even more of their daily lives with us. And we love them for it! Here's a roundup of some of our favorite photos from the Twitterverse this week! Enjoy!
Are y'all ready for another round of American Idol musical chairs?
American Idol's ratings are down a whopping 22% this season despite the addition of big name judges, country star Keith Urban, rapper Nicki Minaj, and pop diva Mariah Carey. The ratings-challenged series hit an all time low last week, attracting only 11 million viewers. In comparison, American Idol appealed to roughly 30 million viewers every week in its prime. Panic time!
Needless to say, Fox wants big changes, including all new judges. Again.
One judge beat them to the punch. Randy Jackson, the lone original judge, announced yesterday that season twelve will be his last. "Yo! Yo! Yo!" Randy told E!. "To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season."
