Exclusive – Survivor’s Stephanie Johnson: ‘I Feel Like Ghost Island Let Me Down’

Stephanie Johnson was doomed from the moment that I picked her to win the game after the premiere episode of Survivor: Ghost Island. She may have come across as more than just a bit eccentric in her pre-season interviews, but once on the beach, she looked to be one of the most dangerous players this season. Of course, it takes more than a good strategy and social skills in the game of Survivor. Stephanie didn’t have much luck out there, and on this week’s episode her luck finally ran out.

Survivor: Ghost Island Episode 5 Recap: Massive Wake-Up Call

Had tonight’s episode of Survivor: Ghost Island aired in the 80s, the previews might have referred to it as a “very special episode.” That’s because it was a deeply personal, more emotional chapter of the show that we don’t get all that often, especially thus far this season when it has relied quite strongly on strategic prowess. Those that have complained that they don’t know or care about any of these contestants got to know and care about a select few of them tonight, and depending on if you like that sort of thing, it made the otherwise predictable episode a bit more enjoyable.

But first, as I do at the beginning of every Recap, please heed the following: Remember that this recap assumes that you have already seen this week’s Episode 5 of Survivor: Ghost Island, so if you have not and don’t want to be spoiled, please come back later! It’s important to add too that while we WILL hit on all of the important developments of the episode, this is not a linear “blow-by-blow” recap, and is more of a discussion and reaction of what we just witnessed together.

Exclusive – Survivor: Ghost Island’s Brendan Shapiro:

To win Survivor, there is always an element of luck and chance, but for 41-year-old phys-ed teacher Brendan Shapiro, the odds stacked against him were just too much. His fate was determined ultimately by Michael, who chose incorrectly as to whom he should use his Immunity Idol on.

Survivor: Ghost Island Episode 4 Recap: Trust Your Gut

“Reversing the curse” has been the mantra of Survivor: Ghost Island thus far, and it’s been a more-than-appropriate theme. With the mistakes of Survivor players’ pasts literally hanging over their heads, nobody wants to become “that guy” or “that girl” who is shown royally screwing up in a flashback on a future “Ghost Island” themed season.

But how do players know if their move is a good one while they’re making it? It’s not like epic mistake-makers James Clement or Erik Reichenbach purposely catapulted themselves onto the wrong side of Survivor history. More often than not though – like in the case of James Clement having been voted out of Survivor: China with not one but two Idols in his pocket – contestants come out ahead by playing the game…not nervously sitting pat and letting the game play them. Just as common however, trusting one’s gut is usually a good way to go, as the heart and the head tend to mislead and disappoint when it comes to Survivor.

“Guts” were on display during tonight’s episode, not only with some player’s trusting their instincts, but with a tribe who displayed them during an amazing Immunity Challenge win. But first, as I do at the beginning of every Recap, please heed the following: Remember that this recap assumes that you have already seen this week’s Episode 4 of Survivor: Ghost Island, so if you have not and don’t want to be spoiled, please come back later! Survivor: Ghost Island: Morgan Ricke

The tribe swap is one of those exciting moments each season in Survivor, where the course of the game completely shifts. For some, it’s a lifeline that saves them from having been in a terrible position on their old tribe. For others, it’s a not-so-subtle reminder of how much luck is needed to get far into the game, as by the luck-of-the-draw, some players are knocked from their position of power and are left trying to figure out their next move on the bottom of their new tribe.

One thing is for sure though: Somebody gets voted-out after every tribe swap, meaning that the tribe swap always claims a victim. This season, that victim was 29-year-old marine animal trainer, Morgan Ricke, who pretty much nobody thought was in any danger this week.

Survivor: Ghost Island Episode 3 Recap: The Ugly Baby

You’ve got to love the bluntness of Survivor: Ghost Island contestant Kellyn Bechtold. During tonight’s episode, which featured a surprise tribe swap, she compared seeing her new terrible camp to how it feels when you visit someone’s baby who is just plain ugly…despite the mother going on and on about how it’s their pride and joy, all you are thinking is, man, that’s one ugly baby.

And while her honesty was on full display during that interview segment, this after all, is Survivor. Honesty is not necessarily a virtue out there in the game, and tonight’s episode featured very little of it as the remaining 18 players jockeyed for position after seeing their tribes switched up.

As I do at the beginning of every Recap, please heed the following: Remember that this recap assumes that you have already seen this week’s Episode 3 of Survivor: Ghost Island, so if you have not and don’t want to be spoiled, please come back later! Jacob and Gonzalez discuss what went wrong on Survivor: Ghost Island

It was a “two-fer” on the first night of Survivor: Ghost Island, as in we got two eliminated contestants for the price of one. Season 36 started off with a lot of confusion and complication, but by the end of the two hours one thing was clear: This season looks to be a good one.

But when the dust settled, two Orange Tribe members – Stephanie Gonzalez and Jacob Derwin – became the first victims of the Ghost Island spirits. If you missed any of the action, you can catch up with our Episode 1 and 2 Recap, as well as checking out the Podcast below.

Survivor: Ghost Island Episode 1 and 2 Recap: Reverse The Curse

It’s a season that already feels like it will be full of big moves and important split-second decisions, but only one of the 20 contestants on Survivor: Ghost Island will truly be able to “reverse the curse.” Yes, Season 36 (I will forever put “!!!” after the current season, as I continue to marvel at this show’s longevity and strong fan base) is here and we are suddenly two episodes in! Well, it was billed a “two-hour” Premiere but it was technically the first two episodes back-to-back, so don’t be confused when next week’s Recap is of “Episode 3.” The details on what exactly is up with “Ghost Island” was finally revealed, and we got to know most of the 20 new players vying for the title of Sole Survivor this season.
