Week five on Dancing with the Stars was Latin Week.  The contestants stepped up their game this week.  Some teams hit it out of the park, while others fall flat.

Jaleel White and Kym Johnson are up first, dancing the samba.  Jaleel’s abs alone deserve some sort of trophy.  Len is overjoyed at their rhythm.  Up next is Melissa Gilbert and Maks doing the salsa.  It’s still not clear exactly how severe Melissa’s injuries were last week.  During their dance, they’re doing several moves that look rough on her head and neck.  Maks hints that the injuries were exaggerated last week.  To me, Melissa seems as awkward as Jack Wagner was on the dance floor.  Bruno tells her to go with it, but reminds her again that she needs to show more control. Carrie Ann gives her credit for her increased confidence from week one.  The judges give them a 21.

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough bring the heat again this week with their salsa.  In rehearsal, Maria face plants during a move where she’s coming through Derek’s legs. She freezes there and is upset because she’s expecting that she’s a bloody mess, but there’s nary a scratch on her. After their dance,  Carrie Ann declares that their kiss was too much.  It should be about what you don’t show. And Len isn’t impressed with Derek taking his shirt off.  It felt forced.

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas dance a hot Argentine tango.  Len says it had beauty and it was bittersweet.  Bruno loved the choreography.  They award them the highest score of the night so far: a 29.

Karina Smirnoff and Gavin DeGraw pick the samba.  Len dubs it a ‘Shamba’. Ouch.  They’re given the lowest score of the night: 19.  Unless the voters light up the phone lines, I think these two are doomed tomorrow night.

William Levy and Cheryl Burke do the tango and it’s hot and perfect.  Carrie Ann needs a bucket of ice after their dance, calling William the Latin dancing James Bond.   They tie Katherine and Mark’s score of  29.

Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus do a sweet samba and the judges praise her stage presence.

Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower knock it out of the park, as do Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd with their Argentine tango. Donald says he analyzes each dance like a football play.  Len praises them for their lifts and Bruno gushes about the sexy build up of their dance.

The Dancing with the Stars contestants got their rock ‘n roll on tonight.  It was a sea of black satin, big hair, and lame fauxhawks.  And no season of DWTS is ever complete without at least a half a dozen injuries or so.  Oh, and pretend “groupies” gyrating on the judges table.

Brooke Burke really got into the spirit of the night with some huge ’80′s hair that would make Dee Snider jealous.

Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus tried their hardest to dance to a difficult song, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, which the judges gave them credit for attempting, but they weren’t impressed.  Carrie Ann didn’t think it came together well and their posture wasn’t strong enough.  I gave them an extra point for Gladys’ costume!

Cheryl Burke and William Levy received stern words about their goofs, which included a fumble or two that threw off their rhythm and caused them to go on too long. Carrie Ann told them they needed to stay focused.

Chelsea Hightower and Roshon Fegan gave it their all and the judges were thrilled.  Carrie Ann gushed that she thinks Roshon is the best dancer among this season’s men.

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough danced an incredible tango to “School’s Out”, despite Maria’s foot injury.  Maria was a trooper and never let us see how much pain she is in, but all Len could muster for her was a “just pretty good”.  Carrie Ann was blown away by their chemistry.  Derek did his best to get a few sympathy votes by carrying Maria upstairs for their score reveal.

Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff drew criticism for the form/posture, dancing to ‘Paint it Black’.

The top scorers of the evening, Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd kicked up the heat in a paso doble to Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze”.  The judges were blown away, with Carrie Ann Inaba dubbing it “psychedelic, bizarre, sexy, raunchy, hot. One of the most memorable moments.”

Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy disappeared after their performance because Melissa needed to be seen for an injury and it couldn’t wait.  From updates shared this morning, Melissa was suffering from whiplash and a concussion.

I don’t know about you, but this season is just a little ho-hum for me.  It needs a shake up.  Get some Housewives on there.  An entire contestant lineup of just Housewives.

Last night brought us week two of Dancing With The Stars, after the judges deemed last week the best premiere ever! So did the stars continue to sizzle? Or did they buckle under the pressure?

For starters, British singer Katherine Jenkins proved her high score of 26 last week was no fluke as she matched the same score again Monday night, earning a pair of 9s for her high-energy jive with partner Mark Ballas. “The blonde bombshell is unleashed,” said judge Bruno Tonioli.

Katherine had some company at the top, as Disney actor Roshon Fegan also received a score of 26–a 3 point improvement from the previous week–for his fiery quick step with partner Chelsie Hightower. “I liked it,” said judge Len Goodman. “It was young, it was fresh and I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

Unfortunately for Urkel, a.k.a. Jaleel White, he and partner Kym Johnson fell to the middle of the pack after tying for first last week. Jaleel’s jive was panned by the judges with Len stating it didn’t have “crispiness.” He added: “It lacked real attack and speed.”

In last place was tennis legend Martina Navratilova with a score of 17. Martina, who scored a 20 last week, displayed very little rhythm in her jive with partner Tony Dovolani, even losing her footing early in the dance. “That was sad!” critiqued judge Carrie Ann Inaba with Len adding, “You have to come out and attack these dances and I didn’t see that.”

Tonight, one of these stars will be sent packing after the scores from the last two weeks are combined along with the viewers’ votes!

The full scores from last night are below -

Katherine Jenkins & Mark Ballas – 26
Roshon Fegan & Chelsie Hightower – 26
Maria Menounos & Derek Hough – 25
William Levy & Cheryl Burke – 25
Donald Driver & Peta Murgatroyd – 24
Sherri Shepherd & Val Chmerkovskiy – 23
Jaleel White & Kym Johnson – 22
Jack Wagner & Anna Trebunskaya – 21
Gavin DeGraw & Karina Smirnoff – 21
Melissa Gilbert & Maks Chmerkovskiy – 20
Gladys Knight & Tristan MacManus – 19
Martina Navratilova & Tony Dovolani – 17

TELL US – WHO’S YOUR FAVORITE SO FAR? WHO SHOULD BE SENT PACKING TONIGHT?

Maria Menounos & Derek Hough: 25 (46)

With less than two weeks until the premiere, ABC has now released the all new Dancing With The Stars season 14 cast costume photos!

The View’s Sherri Shepherd is pictured above in her silver sequence dress with partner Val Chmerkovskiy. More photos of the other stars and their partners are below!

And if you’re planning on making a few extra bucks betting on the outcome of Dancing with the Stars, the NYDailyNews is making it easier for you. Vegas odds-maker, America’s Line, has been kind enough to calculate the odds for the twelve new contestants on the “celebrity” (that term gets looser and looser as the seasons fly by, doesn’t it? #notyoujaleel) dance competition.

For example, many of you at home may not have heard of the Hispanic Brad Pitt, but as the star of his country’s prime soap opera (telenovella, to be use the correct term for a Spanish soap) the yummy, William Levy is favored with 9-2 odds to win the coveted mirror ball trophy. Those are early predictions, as the betting line was created within hours of ABC announcing the season 14 cast.

America’s Line President, Ben Eckstein reveals, “Last season, we correctly predicted J.R. Martinez as the favorite and eventual winner.” He continues, “This season, we’re gonna try another Latin star, William Levy. Known as the ‘Cuban Brad Pitt,’ Levy is gorgeous, he has a ‘special’ relationship with Jennifer Lopez, and with J-Lo as a mentor — remember she was a former Fly Girl — how can he possibly lose?” So you’re saying he can dance?

America’s Line isn’t the only statistician to play the odds. Wynn Las Vegas predicts The View‘s Sherri Shepherd to take the title, as she’s a 5-1 contender according to their math. What will this do to the talk show’s dynamic? Will Bawbawa be proud? Will Hasselbeck be jealous? Will Whoopi bust out a new pair of sneakers for each show? America’s Line cites Sherri’s odds as 15-1.

The site is kind enough to break down the statistics for each star. Hispanic hunk William Levy is at the top of the food chain with aforementioned 9-2 odds. Last season, his partner Cheryl Burke danced J.R. into the winner’s circle. It doesn’t hurt that William is tall, dark, and handsome…and that accent! According to Vegas, he’s a frontrunner who is easy on the eyes.

With not to shappy 5-1 odds is cheesehead NFL player, Donald Driver. While his partner, Peta Murgatroyd (wasn’t that a Jetsons’ phrase?), is dancing in her inaugural season, Donald is no stranger to winning. And not in a Charlie Sheen way. The dude has a Super Bowl ring to prove it.

My man Urkel, aka the grown up Jaleel White, gains 6-1 odds by America’s Line standards and gets an impressive 9-1 distinction from the Wynn Las Vegas. Who can blame them? It’s Urkel! He’ll win that mirror ball, smile cunningly into the camera and ask, “Did I do that?” Not to mention, since it’s Dancing with the Stars, he’s one of the few that will be perceived as a “star” across multiple generations. I’m sure Family Matters is still a staple in syndication. #winslowneighbor

Maria Menounos is holding strong with a 6-1 statistic from both oddsmakers. Not only does she host Extra, she Tebows with Tim himself and starts off the competition with an already rocking, fit body. She’ll be a contender.

R&B superstar, Gladys Knight has 6-1 odds according to America’s Line, but Wynn is only offering a 20-1 spread. No worries though, she’s been hip-shaking with the Pips since before most of the voters were born. While that could potentially hurt the Motown songstress, I hope it will open her music up to an entirely new fan base.

Opera singer Katherine Jenkins (forgive me, but who?) garners 8-1 and 16-1 odds from America’s Line and Wynn Las Vegas respectively. She’s cute, she’s tiny, and she can sing…in a genre that most people only have heard of when preceded by “The Phantom of the.” An underdog, yes… but doesn’t America love one of those?

Of course it wouldn’t be a recent DWTS season if ABC didn’t go after the tween vote. Ron Bergeron isn’t stupid…The Disney Channel needs to represent. This season, it offers 20-year-old Roshon Fegan, star of Shake It Up, as its sacrificial lamb. Apparently, the Sprouse twins were too busy filming Zack and Cody Spend Senior Year on the Moon. Who can blame them? Going to school on a cruise ship is overrated. Roshon’s odds? 10-1 from America’s Line and 7-1 according to Wynn.

Gavin DeGraw, who recieves 12-1 odds from America’s Line and 25-1 odds from Wynn Las Vegas, is a pensive singer/songwriter, takes the competition up a notch. He’s promised to continue touring while learning his routines and filming the show. Seeing as he recently recovered from being violently attacked on the streets of Manhattan, I’d say this is small potatoes for the guy.

Jack Wagner receives 12-1 odds from America’s Line and 14-1 odds from Wynn Las Vegas. Jack is fortunate to span many a fan’s television lifeline. Did I watch him on General Hospital? Heck no, but my dad’s girlfriend did…as did everyone else in that age group demographic. Was I glued to my television screen in college (yes, I’m old) when he was the hottest guy next to Grant Show on Melrose Place? Yes, yes I was. Sadly, despite his stellar day and night soap resume, he’ll likely appeal to viewers as Heather Locklear’s (God, she was a great bitch as Amanda–RIP MP) recent ex-fiance.

Melissa Gilbert, ex-wife of my childhood husband, Bruce Boxleitner (if you didn’t watch/have never heard of Scarecrow and Mrs. King, I am sad for you. #Netflix) is pulling 12-1 odds from Wynn Las Vegas and 20-1 odds from America’s Line. Most famous for her long run on Little House on the Prairie, it begs the question, what would Michael Landon say?

Personally, Urkel aside, Martina Navratilova is someone I would LOVE to see make it far in this competition. I love tennis. I play tennis. I am horribly God awful at tennis. But I have always loved my tennis icons…and while America’s Line gives this superstar athlete and Wimbledon champion 25-1 odds coupled with Wynn’s 30-1 odds, I have a feeling she’ll prove us all wrong. Deuces.

TELL US – THOUGHTS ON THE NEW DWTS CAST? ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW SEASON?

And then there were four. Last night, another star was sent packing from Dancing With The Stars.

Similar to the scoreboard from Monday night, landing in the bottom two were Ralph Macchio, who had to dance through a knee injury, and Romeo, who gave two solid performances.

Ultimately, the viewers decided there was still a lot of dance left in Ralph as Romeo, 21, and his partner Chelsie Hightower were eliminated.

“I’m surprised because that was one of my best dances last night,” said Romeo. “But I’m not surprised, because of the competition this year — anybody could go at any time, but we went out with a bang. That’s the most fun I had in my life… I was terrified of dancing,” he added. “I didn’t dance at my own prom… I think I’ve showed kids anything is possible if you try.”

Romeo then expressed his gratitude to his partner Chelsie. “I wanted to do this for you. We can dance after this,” he said. “I’m super happy and so proud of you,” responded Chelsie.

Next week is the semi-finals, airing at 8/7c on ABC.

TELL US – DID THE VIEWERS GET IT RIGHT WITH THE VOTING? WHO DESERVES TO WIN THE MIRROR BALL TROPHY?

Following “American night” last week on Dancing With The Stars, the show returned Monday night with a very non cheesy “guilty pleasure night.”

And it was a good night as the first 10s of the season were handed out to two contestants. Romeo received the first 10 of the night for his lovely Viennese waltz with partner Chelsie Hightower to Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” “Every once in awhile in a season, magic happens,” said judge Carrie Ann Inaba. “And that was magical.”

Romeo ended the night with a score of 28 as so did Disney starlet Chelsea Kane and partner Mark Ballas. Chelsea and Mark received the second 10 of the night for their quick-step to “Walking on Sunshine.” “I’m getting a suntan from you!” said judge Bruno Tonioli. “You have so much zest. Splendid.”

And it wouldn’t be a typical DWTS night if a mishap didn’t occur. This week, actor Ralph Macchio suffered that fate when his partner Karina Smirnoff tripped over him during their paso doble to “Everybody Dance Now” by C+C Music Factory. The duo quickly recovered and ended the night with an okay score of 24.

At the bottom of the leaderboard this week and in serious danger of going home is wrestler Chris Jericho alongside partner Cheryl Burke. The duo danced the tango to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin” with Bruno stating the wrestler looked like “a lump of granite.” Ouch.

The results show airs tonight at 9/8c and someone will be going home. Below are the scores from last night -

Romeo & Chelsie Hightower: 28
Chelsea Kane & Mark Ballas: 28
Hines Ward & Kym Johnson: 27
Kirstie Alley & Maks Chmerkovskiy: 26
Kendra Wilkinson & Louis van Amstel: 25
Ralph Macchio & Karina Smirnoff: 24
Chris Jericho & Cheryl Burke: 22

In other DWTS news, it seems Mark Ballas, 24, and eliminated American Idol contestant Pia Toscano, 22, are still going strong.  The new couple was photographed dining at a Beverly Hills restaurant on Sunday night.  Also pictured with the duo were Mark’s mom (in the blue dress), and his fellow pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Those photos are below!

TELL US – WHO SHOULD GET THE BOOT TONIGHT?

Days after announcing the celebrity-star pairings, ABC has now unveiled the official cast photos of Dancing With The Stars season 12.

Above is a photo of Playboy Playmate and E! reality star Kendra Wilkinson, who has been paired up with Louis van Amstel. According to numerous reports, Kendra, 25, is the favorite to win the show.

Meanwhile, 60-year-old actress Kirstie Alley is hoping to use the show as a weight loss vehicle. “I’ve lost 60 pounds, and I have 30 or 40 more to go,” the former Jenny Craig spokesperson told US Magazine this week. “And I think with this strenuous, rigorous dance schedule, I think it’s going to work. It’s exciting.”

That should no problem for Kirstie, who is paired with hotness/tough hard-ass teacher Maksim Chmerkovskiy . The 12th season of Dancing With The Stars will officially kick off on March 21.
