Duck Dynasty

Last night's Duck Dynasty got back to the roots of why I love this show so much.  It wasn't super scripted, but it was hilarious, wholesome, and fun to watch.  The episode followed Willie, Jase, and Si as they gave Martin a good-natured ribbing over a member of the opposite sex, and Phil was able to spend some quality time (even if he didn't ask for it) with some of his adorable grandchildren.

The Robertson boys are fishing, but Si's singing seems to be scaring off all potential catches.  As Phil so eloquently puts it, "If fish were vampires, Si would be garlic, daylight, and a stake through the heart simultaneously."

The men plan for a poker night, but Martin bows out quietly.  He's got a date!  I'm kind of excited to learn this news because it means that Martin is still on the market.  Call me maybe!  Willie jokes that he's known Martin for ten years and he's been on one date…if Willie is being generous.  Jase inquires as to whether Martin found this girl in a mail-order bride catalog.

With more than 11 million viewers tuning in to watch Duck Dynasty this week, it's no shock that the show has spawned a few hardcore superfans!  We're talking fans who are so dedicated that they plan their wedding around Willie Robertson's appearance at the brand new Field & Stream store in Pennsylvania!  Superfans who also named their five month old baby Jase!  Take that, Twilight fans!  Edward and Bella are out as baby names in 2013 and Jase, Si and Phil are on the rise!

Field & Stream celebrate the grand opening of its first store in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania last weekend.  A mom let the company know that her daughter Mehgan Cook, a bride-to-be, and her fiance Charlie Miller (both avid outdoorsmen) were so devastated about the possibility of missing out on the store's opening and Willie Robertson's appearance at said opening, that they wanted to get married IN the store.

sadie prom

I'm sorry, but could Sadie Robertson be any cuter?  I mean, the whole Duck Dynasty family (especially Uncle Si!) is the most precious thing to hit reality television in ages, and they are such a breath of fresh air.  Any chance y'all think they'd adopt me?

Sadie is Willie's sixteen-year-old daughter who is often featured on the show, and she does fun things like hang out with Scotty McCreery and shoot videos with Darius Rucker.  You know, normal stuff high schoolers do!  Now, she's collaborating on a line of prom dresses with designer Sherri Hill, whose dresses have been worn by Selena Gomez, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, and many other celebrities. After her Homecoming dress debacle last season, I'm sure Sadie's got plenty of ideas!

godwin jep duck dynasty

Last night was the season premiere of Duck Dynasty, and I must say, I have missed those Robertson boys and their families!  While I'm all about a DD marathon, I love new Si one-liners peppered among Willie's antics and Jase and Phil's dry humor.  The episode didn't disappoint as the crew created a surprise wedding with nary a camo tablecloth.  I'm shocked!  Let's begin, shall we?  CHAW!

Jep and Willie are playing Battleship as their wives watch with eyes rolling.  Jessica and Korie share a scripted exchange about Phil and Kay's upcoming anniversary.  As Willie jokes that the girls will never be able to convince his parents to have a party, Korie suggests planning a surprise vow renewal, and she credits Willie for the brilliant idea.  She admits that the best way to get a Robertson man to do what you want is to make them think they came up with the plan in the first place…well, that and sexy time.  A second wedding, it is!

Jase, Si, Godwin, and the boy are hanging out in the warehouse, and Missy is blowing up Jase's phone with ideas for the surprise wedding.  The men wonder why they need a second walk down the aisle, and we learn that Phil and Kay never had a proper wedding the first time around. Godwin is excited about the idea as long as there is chicken dancing involved.  Willie joins the crew in an effort to escape Korie's party to-do list, and Si can do nothing but Indiana Jones his nephew for being so whipped as Godwin yells CHAW in what has to be the worst whip sound ever. Willie denies being a pushover as he hands his credit card to Korie…

The Duck Dynasty cast gets a big raise!

It's no surprise that the Duck Dynasty cast would want a big raise from the network, as the show has been consistently blowing up the ratings – and viewer numbers continue to climb all the time.  Their reruns bring in more viewers than first airings of any Housewives series in the franchise.

The cast – 9 adults and 11 children – will be getting 4-5x their original paychecks.  Deadline Hollywood reports that members of the Robertson family will be raking in $200,000 per episode, which will be split among the show's stars.  No word on how much the side players are paid – like Mountain Man, Justin Martin, and John Godwin.  Things are a little unclear as to which family members are included in the $200,000, as rumors swirl that the main Robertson men are each earning a large chunk separate from this.  So, it's possible the $200,000 is split between the side characters, wives, and kids.

Keeping Up with the Kardashians - Season 8

The reality TV viewer numbers for Sunday are in!

A whole lot of reality TV fans still care about the Kardashians – 2.856 million this week – despite the cries that say otherwise. I've honestly never seen an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians, but a quick Google search tells me that Sunday's episode featured a pouty Kendall who wants her own beach house and a pissed off Kris who denies Bruce a putting green.

I'd rather shoot myself in the foot.  Moving on…

The wee bump up that Real Housewives of New Jersey received last week, possibly due to Joe and Teresa Giudice's federal indictment, disappeared faster than Poison's spray-on hair.  This week, 2.410 million viewers came back to see the end of Teresa and Jacqueline's little tawk, which is a 6.37% decline in viewership. Is it time for Bravo to recast this hot mess?

Y'all know I adore the Robertson family, so I am filling up on A&E reruns like Uncle Si fills up on his daily two gallons of sweet tea.  In just three seasons, Duck Dynasty has become the number one nonfiction cable series, and the boys are on track to sell more than 750,000 duck calls this year…which is quite the jump from the 60,000 sold in 2011.

Willie, Jase, Si, and brother Phil recently shared the secrets to their success, how they remain grounded, and what's behind their scripted shenanigans…all while cracking jokes of their own.  I so love this fam!

See all the details below.  I'm guessing this will be a bigger hit than the Teresa Giudice New Year's Cruise that never happened…

To get you through the 12 months until the cruise sets sail, you can make your holidays a little brighter with the Duck Dynasty Christmas album, "Duck the Halls: A Robertson Family Christmas".
