Teen Mom star Amber Portwood finally faced the music yesterday in an Indiana courtroom regarding the domestic violence case against her.
Amber, 21, was arrested back in December for hitting her baby daddy Gary Shirley, 24, in front of their daughter Leah and in front of MTV cameras. And yesterday, Amber pled guilty to two counts of felony domestic battery.
Though she had been facing up to three years in jail and a $10,000 fine, the judge decided to go easy on her. Madison Superior Court Judge David Happe suspended Amber’s two-year sentence, and placed her on two years of probation.
Also as part of her plea deal, the judge ordered Amber to undergo 30 days of inpatient therapy, obtain her high school diploma and put $10,000 in a college fund for her 2-year-old daughter. The prosecutors also dropped the most serious of charges against her — the felony child neglect charge.
And finally, the no contact order that prevented Amber and Gary from being around each other in the presence of Leah was also dropped as a result of the plea deal. So it appears Amber and Gary are once again free to be a disaster happy family. Meanwhile, you will be able to see more of Amber’s drama on the upcoming season of Teen Mom, which premieres July 5 on MTV.
TMZ is reporting that Gary, 23, was arrested yesterday in Indiana for driving on a suspended license. He was arrested at 1:34 AM for “driving while suspended” — a Class A misdemeanor — and taken to jail. He was held on a $3,000 bond and has since been released.
But get this, Amber was somehow involved in the arrest. See the arresting officer revealed in a police report that he only approached the vehicle after hearing Gary and his baby mama Amber screaming at each other inside a car.
The concerned officer approached the vehicle and says Gary introduced himself and Amber as the couple from “Teen Mom.” Yes he did. The officer then asked for some ID and after running a check on Gary’s license — it came back suspended, so he ordered Gary out of the car.
Oh but it gets worse better. The cop reveals in the police report, “I placed Mr. Shirley in two sets of handcuffs due to his size.” Ouch.
Gary’s lawyer Jeff Lockwood tells TMZ he is not concerned about his client getting a jail sentence since this is “a traffic violation and Gary doesn’t have a previous criminal history.” Gary’s mugshot is below -
TMZ is reporting that an Indiana judge has awarded primary custody to the lesser of two evils Leah’s father, Gary Shirley. This decision was not based on Amber’s fitness as a parent, but rather on the recent vandalism of her home and car. Child Protective Services believes that Gary can best provide a safer environment for young Leah at this time.
US Weekly reported that Amber’s car was recently spray painted with the words “slut,” “hoe,” and “f***er” and her house was egged. Amber had apparently been spending time with her neighbor Midas Fields. The word is that Jamie Monroe (the girlfriend Midas mooches off lives with who is the mother of his child) was less than thrilled about this, and accused Amber of stealing her baby daddy.
Leah’s mother revealed, “Amber is upset at the vandalism. [She] was forced to call the police, at around 3 a.m., when she came home with her aunt and Midas from a dinner.” Um, dinner? 3 a.m.?
Amber’s mother continues, addressing the relationship between her daughter and Midas, saying he has a “crush” on her daughter. However, she elaborates that Amber is “still seeing Gary, although they’re not officially back together.” Apparently both Amber and Gary are in agreement (thank goodness) with this new arrangement, and Amber will have visitation rights pursuant to a yet to be determined schedule.
Amber’s reason for being court? It all stems from hitting her baby daddy Gary Shirley. If you recall, Amber was charged with two felony counts of domestic battery, one felony count of neglect of a dependent and one misdemeanor count of domestic battery for striking Gary in front of their two-year-old daughter, Leah.
According to E! News, Amber, 21, reportedly broke down in tears when a judge set a hearing date of November 16 to determine her fate. “She was really upset,” says a source says, adding that Gary, 24, was present for the hearing (the two are reportedly back together). “She was crying,” the source adds. Another witness adds that Amber “stormed out” of the courtroom after the announcement. “You could tell she wasn’t happy.” Amber had reportedly hoped the charges against her would be dropped.
In other news, not even twenty-four hours after the latest episode of 16 and Pregnant aired, TMZ is reporting that new mom Jamie McKay is petitioning the court for sole custody of her daughter, Miah. She claims that her ex-boyfriend and her baby’s father, Ryan McElrath “has a history of cocaine abuse” and is “not responsible and not in a position to provide a stable environment” for baby Miah.
On Tuesday night’s show, we watched a blurry-eyed Ryan almost miss his daughter’s birth after being up for several nights. Jamie, while in her fifth hour of labor chastised him for smelling of booze and later learned that he’d been out partying with another girl when her contractions started. The couple’s strained relationship imploded, with Jamie blaming Ryan’s “bad habits” and Ryan claiming that Jamie wouldn’t permit him to take Miah to his parents’ home to visit. Say what you will…yes, I would be an idiot to think Jamie didn’t know about Ryan’s addictions before and during their relationship, and yes, it is probably rare for someone to date someone like that and not share some of the same tendencies, but it is possible.
Jamie is now petitioning the judge to order Ryan to “submit to appropriate drug and alcohol assessments and testing and to comply with all treatment recommendations.” She also wants Ryan to successfully complete a parenting class. In an interview with TMZ, Ryan stated, “She’s doing this just to cause problems … it will all clear out in court.”
I guess we will all be waiting with baited breath (or not) as we’re sure to hear much more about this dispute in the upcoming weeks. Having just filed the papers, Jamie has a date to meet Ryan in court on June 13th. I just sincerely hope the young pair can remain civil and consider what is in the best interest of that seven-month-old baby. What do you think? Should Ryan not have to jump through these hoops to see his daughter, or is Jamie justified in her requests?

Teen Mom 2ended last night with a finale episode that was filled with mixed emotions.
On one hand, we saw Leah Messer beginning a new life by tying the knot withCorey Simms (more wedding photos below of the two), the father of her twin girls. A sharp contrast to Leah’s story was Jenelle Evans, who got arrested for breaking and entering, plus marijuana possession.
Following Jenelle’s arrest, her boyfriend Kieffer Delpwas also arrested for doing cocaine. Upon making bail, Jenelle appeared to have learned her lesson, as she made up with her mom, agreed to pay back the credit card debt, and even promised not to see Kieffer anymore. That was however short lived as she went ahead and bailed out Kieffer behind her mother’s back. As we all know, the two are still seeing each other and in fact, both were arrested just days ago.
Meanwhile, Chelsea and her baby daddy Adam had a big blowup after Chelsea’s dad had his car towed away from their driveway. Chelsea vowed again that she was done with Adam, who seemed more concerned with his car and belongings than his own daughter Aubree on her first birthday.
Though Jo and Kailyn appeared to be making some progress when it came to the joint custody of their son, things went awry during their attempt at mediation. Hopefully the two parents, who both seem to care about the well being of baby Isaac, will be able to work things out for his sake. However, there were recent reports that Kailyn was trying to strip Jo of his custody rights following his arrest last month for being under the influence of marijuana
Airing next week will be a reunion show with the cast.
In other Teen Mom news, it seems Amber Portwood and baby daddy Gary Shirley are still going strong for the time being. RadarOnline is reporting the two dum dums lovebirds are making plans to move to LA together.
“They want to start a new life together and moving to LA would be the best way to start over,” a source said. “And of course it would also really help with their future projects like book deals, a clothing line and more television.”
There’s however one slight problem. While the courts lifted the no contact order prohibiting Amber from contacting Gary, the two are still not allowed to spend time together in the presence of their daughter, Leah. “The plan is to get the No Contact lifted between all of them, move to LA as a family, and live happily ever after,” adds the source.

“I’ve never given anything to anybody. I wouldn’t do that,” the 20-year-old tells E! News. “I know 100 percent who did it, and I’m going to go after them full force.”
And while Amber doesn’t mention the name of the alleged thief, she does rule out on-again beau and father of her 2-year-old daughter Leah, Gary Shirley.
“No, no, Gary didn’t do it,” says Amber. “He wasn’t around me because of the no contact order when I took those pictures, but there were a bunch of people who were and I’m sure I know who it was.”
So why isn’t she naming the alleged perpetrator? “I want to surprise them,” Amber explains. “Those pics were taken for personal reasons. I didn’t send them to anyone. I didn’t take them for sexual reasons. This is embarrassing enough. It’s just weird. The person who did this is f***ed.”
Right. In other Amber news, she and Gary were photographed above heading to an Oscars viewing party on Sunday. The two also spent the weekend jewelry shopping as a rep from Kay Jewelers tells the HollywoodLife that Gary bought Amber a $1,300 promise ring.
“They are totally back on as a couple,” a source close to Amber reveals. Let’s see how long they last this go around.
Moments after an Indiana judge lifted the no-contact order on Teen Mom couple Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley Wednesday afternoon, the above photo was taken as UsWeekly is now reporting the couple has reconciled and are even talking marriage.
TMZ reports Gary, 22, and Amber, 20, arrived separately to the Indiana court for the hearing, during which the judge modified the existing order, allowing the couple to be around each other with a catch… They cannot be in the same room with their daughter Leah unless they’re trading custody.
UsWeekly adds that Gary told the judge yesterday that he never wanted the no-contact order in the first place. “Before the no-contact order was placed, we were about to work things out and be a family,” said Gary, also adding that his biggest hope with Amber now is a full reconciliation. “That’s the end goal — to go for marriage.”
Amber reportedly became tearful in court once the judge revealed the two cannot be together in the presence of Leah, 2.
Meanwhile, TMZ also reports Amber called the cops on Gary just days ago after alleging she received harassing phone calls from him. According to the police report filed by Amber, she received 24 calls from a blocked number between 11:56 PM on February 3 and 5:21 AM on February 4.
Amber claimed she could recognize the voices as Gary and his friend Ashley Williamson. Amber told police she could hear Ashley threatening to kick her ass during the calls while Gary repeatedly said “sexually vulgar” things to her. Gary has denied making these calls and so far, no actions have been taken.
Amber is still facing charges for domestic violence stemming from her attacks on Gary.
Despite the recent revelation that she earned a whopping $140,000 for a six-month contract with MTV, it seems Teen Mom star Amber Portwood is having second thoughts about being a ‘Teen Mom.’
Amber graces the latest cover of Life & Style magazine under the heading ‘Being a Teen Mom Ruined My Life.’ In an exclusive interview with the mag, Amber, 20, who was recently arrested and released from jail, expresses her fear over not wanting to go back to jail again.
“I just can’t even imagine not seeing my little baby if I go back to jail,” she said in her first post-incarceration interview. “It scares me so bad,” she added of the possibility of losing her 2-year-old daughter Leah.
Amber then goes on to reveal she regrets doing the MTV hit show to begin with as she believes her domestic violence attacks against her ex-fiance Gary Shirley would have gone unnoticed had she not done the show, well duh.
“I wouldn’t have been in jail because nobody would have known about it,” she explained. Her brother seems to agree. “I can’t say completely that it’s the show’s fault because obviously my sister did it. But Amber and Gary asked them not to air the fight because they knew this legal stuff would happen. Now my sister gets death threats, and my niece’s life is in turmoil,” Shawn Portwood told Life & Style.
“I might get attention, but it’s not the right attention,” Amber also told TMZin a video interview on Monday. “I turned 20 and I don’t want to be known as ‘Amber from Teen Mom.’”
In other Amber news, TMZ posted another leaked audio recording of Gary this week, during which he can be heard completely bashing his baby mama Amber.
In the December audio recording, Gary can be heard on the phone with Krystal, who just happens to be Amber’s cousin. Gary explains to Krystal he has a crush on her and then points out, “You’ve got things that Amber don’t … like a job.”
It didn’t end there as Gary added, “Amber is sluttish. You’ve been with six dudes, Amber’s been with f**king a million.” Ouch, but it gets even better as Gary tries to convince Crystal to come to his place by saying, “If you ever want to piss off Amber, let me know.”
