It's Not a High Without a Low

You always can tell we’re nearing the end of a season of Survivor when we get to the classic “loved ones” challenge. Well, we’ve reached that point as of tonight. Love it or hate it (I’ve felt both emotions in past seasons, sometimes simultaneously), the “loved ones” episode is always powerful and emotionally charged and usually acts as a catalyst for at least one Survivor to re-focus and will themselves to the end of the game.

Reinventing How This Game Is Played

It’s getting tough out there on Survivor. With the Finale fast approaching (May 24…mark your calendars!), we find ourselves down to just 10 players left in the game heading into last night’s episode. It has been a season full of big moves, aggressive strategies, and the occasional blunder. “Game Changers,” Hali stated from the jury seats after tonight’s Tribal Council. “Idiots,” Deb countered. They may both be right.

But before we try to think of an 11-letter word to describe last night’s new episode, let me first warn you that there are spoilers to follow, as we will be discussing in detail the event’s that took place during last night’s episode of Survivor: Game Changers. And while we WILL hit on all of the important developments, remember that this is more of a discussion and analysis and not a blow-by-blow account of how the episode played out.

Reinventing How This Game Is Played

Last week’s episode of Survivor was heavy on “reshuffling” metaphors, but this week takes it a step further, with an episode entitled “Reinventing How This Game Is Played.” There are now just 10 players left in the game as we enter the final month of Survivor: Game Changers…and there appears to be a lot more game to be played.

A Line Drawn in Concrete

Only “Booboo the Foo” would think it’s OK to get cocky when competing on Survivor. Tonight’s episode had more than one player boast that they “were running the show” and there was a lot of talk about “lines being drawn,” whether in the sand or in concrete. But here’s a prediction: Whomever ends up winning this season can draw a line straight back to the events of this episode, to determine just who ends up coming out on top.

It was explosive, emotional (in a good way this time) and really featured a pivotal Tribal Council that is usually reserved for the merge episode. Let’s get into the events of tonight’s episode, and remember, only read on if you’ve seen the latest episode of Survivor as this is not a straight “recap,” but more of a reaction/discussion of the episode.

A Line Drawn in Concrete

Last week’s double-episode of Survivor began the formation of the Jury, and left us with just 11 players remaining in the game. There are still enough contestants alive in the game to shake things up and blow-up the current power structure, but it looks like one person is about to blow-up their own game.

Let’s get you set and refreshed as we head into tonight’s new episode – you can access last week’s full interview with Ozzy and Hali, as well as a link to the Podcast here. You can also read last week’s recap here.

There's A New Sheriff in Town

“Double Episodes” seem to happen at least once or twice every season on Survivor, usually during the very first night and then again sometimes post-merge. In seasons past, the “double-episode” seemed like a way for the producers to fly through what might otherwise be thought of as a boring episode, or a predictable Tribal Council. During Season 33, I ate my words in this regard, as we were given two of the best, most memorable Tribals of that season (forgive me for not remembering them off-hand, but look it up…I remember it as being awesome) during a back-to-back episode night.

Tonight’s latest two episodes of Survivor: Game Changers didn’t disappoint and things were far from predictable. But before we gather our troops and prepare to go to war, please be warned that there are spoilers to follow, as we will be discussing in detail the events that took place during tonight’s double-episode of Survivor: Game Changers.

There's A New Sheriff in Town

So what Episode of Survivor: Game Changers is this anyways? Technically the Premiere episode this season was a back-to-back night, meaning that it should have been “Episode 1” and “Episode 2.” Last week was technically the sixth “week” of the show, but was actually the seventh episode. Adding even more confusion, tonight will feature another back-to-back episode situation – yes, two hours of Survivor coming tonight – giving us what is actually “Episode 8” and “Episode 9” of this season, even though this is really just the seventh “week” the show has aired. Confused yet?

Number the episode however you want, but tonight will feature two episodes, which presumably means two Tribal Councils and two people leaving the show. There was a lot to digest following last week’s highly controversial episode, an episode that made national headlines after Jeff Varner outed Zeke Smith as being transgender. If you haven’t yet listened to my exclusive Podcast interview with Varner from last week, what are you waiting for? You can access the full interview and link to the Podcast here. What Happened on Exile, Stays on Exile

The Queen has now fallen, so who, if anyone, will step up to claim the crown? It’s not quite a game of thrones on Survivor, but with another big target like Sandra Diaz-Twine now out of the mix, there is sure to be a bit of blood spilled as the remaining 14 players jostle for position in the game. In addition to blood, it looks like tonight’s new episode will also feature some tears being shed, as one tribe faces an emotional meltdown.
