During the second part of the Real Housewives of Atlantareunion, Kim Zolciakattacked our ear drums performed her hit song, ‘Tardy For The Party.’ Kim’s performance was then followed by that of her fellow castmate, Kandi Burruss, who also performed her hit song – ‘Fly Above.’ The contrast between the two performances was quite telling to say the least.
So The Question of The Day Is, Even Though The Song Is a Hit, Was Kim’s Performance A Hit or Miss?
When Kandi Burrussfirst joined the cast of the Atlanta Housewives, no one knew what to expect from this newbie. Throughout all the drama, Kandi has managed to keep her cool in dealing with love, life and drama. During the season, Kandi got along with all the housewives’ except NeNe Leakes. However, in the interview with ESSENCE, she reveals that she and NeNe are cool. The Grammy-winning singer and songwriter also talks about her upcoming album.
Below are excerpts from Kandi’s interview with ESSENCE:
ESSENCE.COM: Now that the reunion show is upon us, do you feel you and NeNe had any resolve?
KANDI BURRUSS: I didn’t really need any resolve. I feel the argument between her and me was so petty. I’m one of those who believes if it’s nothing and she’s cool with me then I’m good too, so let’s keep it moving. I would say that during the cast’s last trip to L.A. we pretty much got along, and I was thinking, okay, she’s cool again. Fine, then let’s be cool.
ESSENCE.COM: Before your fiance’s untimely passing he gave one interview and shared his thoughts about your mom. How’d you feel about what he said?
BURRUSS: I was pretty upset and not feeling too tough about parts of it because it wasn’t necessary. He said that she needs a man, but he tried to hook my mother up with some married guy. I asked him if he was married and A.J. told me no. The first time my mother and this man met, they had a conversation and he told her that he wanted to be honest with her and admitted that he was married, so they never dated or saw each other after that. My mom was angry and called to tell me, and I was like, wel,l I didn’t know. But I try not to harp on that because he’s no longer here, but that was my gut reaction when I read the article.
ESSENCE.COM: Congrats on releasing your EP of your upcoming album, “B.L.O.G.” (B—— Love Online Gossip). Have you been inspired to write a song in memory of A.J.?
BURRUSS: On the EP there’s a song on I’d written earlier on A.J. and my relationship called “I Just Know.” It really could be a wedding song it’s so beautiful and it fit the best point of our relationship. So my holding the release of my album isn’t so much because I want to add songs as a tribute, but it’s too much going on right now and instead of making rush decisions I was like, Let me just slow down after experiencing two deaths back-to-back. Again, this EP will just give my fans a taste of what’s to come on my album.
ESSENCE.COM: Well, we can’t wait after knowing the magic you worked on Kim’s single “Tardy for the Party.” Is there anything you’d like to say in parting?
BURRUSS: I just want to thank everyone for showing so much love and support over these last few weeks, especially those who sent me Twitter messages. Although I wasn’t replying, I really did appreciate them. Every time I got teary-eyed I’d read those messages and they would make me feel better. I don’t know why the kind thought of strangers lifts you up, but they did and I’m so grateful for that kindness.
The 2009Soul Train awards was filmed at the Georgia World Congress Center on November 3, 2009, which of course meant the Real Housewives of Atlanta had to be in attendance.
The awards show, scheduled to air on BET Nov. 29 at 9 pm ET, included a performance by Kandi Burruss and R & B Singer Brian McKnight.
Also in attendance wasLisa Wu Hartwell’s ex-husband, Keith Sweat. Lisa has mentioned in recent interviews that she and Keith are now trying to work out a custody agreement on their own. She made headlines months ago when she announced she would be taking Keith back to court, in an attempt to try to regain custody of their two sons.
Reality stars and celebs were dressed up and ready to party this weekend in lieu of Halloween. Pictured above is Melissa Rycroftand fiance Tye Strickland.
The most interesting costume would have to go to Spencer Prattand Heidi Montag, as the two attention whores dressed up as Jon & Kate Gosselin. Which this brings us to Jon Gosselin’s costume, and well you just have to see this for yourself.
Another interesting costume would have to be that of Heidi Klum and her husband Seal.
Nene Leakes of The Real Housewives of Atlanta is sounding off on the second season drama of her show. Nene has seen her popularity decline this season amidst her behavior on the show, which shows her as bullying others and having an over-sized ego. In her interview with Essence, Nene talks about the meeting with her alleged father, why she and Kandi’s relationship turned sour and her relationship with the other Atlanta housewives.
ESSENCE.COM: So, Miss Nene, you finally met your alleged father, whose reception didn’t appear that warm. Have you two remained in touch?
NENE: It was warm enough because we are strangers. I wouldn’t expect him to hug me. He was very nervous with the cameras around. It took the producers about an hour to convince him to sign the release forms. I was hoping and praying that he didn’t, but I guess after they talked to him for so long he finally gave in and that’s why he wouldn’t allow us in the house. Had it just been me and my uncle he would have. I haven’t seen him since then, but I’ve spoken to him. And I still haven’t taken a paternity test but I believe he’s my father. At some point I can do a DNA test but there’s a part of me that doesn’t want to know the truth. I just needed to meet him and have some closure.
ESSENCE.COM: Understood. Let’s switch gears a bit. Since the sudden death of Kandi’s fiancé AJ, are the “Housewives” closer?
NENE: No, not really. Nobody has seen each other. I’ve talked to Sheree and Lisa and saw everyone at the funeral. We put our differences aside to be at the funeral so we could be there for Kandi because we aren’t that bitter. As far as us being friends, we won’t ever be friends. I’ve known Sheree the longest; I still talk to Lisa, but our relationships are what they are. Honestly, I think if we hadn’t been on this we wouldn’t be this bitter with one another, and it’s definitely made it a lot worse.
ESSENCE.COM: Do you think you ever gave Kandi a fair chance?
NENE: I feel like i did. On my behalf, I didn’t reach out to her when she first joined the cast to welcome her because that’s just not me. I wasn’t looking for anything; I figured like, if we get along we do and if we don’t, it is what it is. The first time Kandi and I met was never shown on the show. We had a couples’ night out where we went salsa dancing and had dinner with me and my husband, Lisa and Ed [Hartwell] and then Kandi and A.J. We had fun, but the viewers never got to see us having a good time.
In the interview, Kim talks about her relationship with newcomer Kandi Burruss, her personal growth on the show, upcoming live performance and the real reason NeNe Leakes denies choking her.
Below are excerpts from Kim’s new interview :
ESSENCE.COM: So tell me what is your assessment of this second season?
KIM ZOLCIAK: This season people got to see more of people’s true colors. You can only pretend to be who you are but for so long. My friendship with Kandi has been a great new relationship for me because I didn’t expect to become that close with her. Overall, my song and my wig line have also been two amazing things that have happened to me. Other than some footage that I didn’t like or a couple of things I wish I’d handled differently, this was a better year for me than last season when I was paralyzed with humiliation and fear.
ESSENCE.COM: NeNe says that you won’t be performing live on the reunion show and that she didn’t choke you. Is that true?
KIM: I do sing live. She’s so jealous it’s ridiculous. It really irritates me that she would lie about something so serious. She strangled me twice and that’s not something I joke around about because violence is a serious situation across the country. I have a 911 call and a police report. What proof does she have that she didn’t do it? I think she’s denying it because she has her book and is doing all this stuff with domestic violence and doesn’t want to make herself look bad, but she needs to just admit that she made a mistake and move on, but don’t lie about it. She strangled me when other New York and Orange County housewives told her I told them she was broke and all this other stuff. I’m thinking, We’re on the highest rated show and they are pissed off about it. Do you believe everything they tell you? I tried to get her to calm down and said people are watching us and she put her finger in my face; I told her to get your finger out my face; then she put her finger back in my face; I smacked it out of my face and then she strangled me again.
ESSENCE.COM: And what about your future and wig collection?
KIM: The name of it is KZ LOKZ, a combination of my first and last name. Well, I’m behind on everything, but ideally, we’d like to see the wigs available and in stores by January 2010. You know, I got a lot of support and people got to see my true colors. I can’t carry the negativity with me forever. I’m too old for that.
In a recent interview with Essence, Sheree reveals her plans to relocate, talks about her fashion line, and whether she’d be back for the third season.
Below are excerpts from Sheree’s new interview:
ESSENCE.COM: Congrats on your first fashion show in New York. What did you take away from the experience? SHEREE WHITFIELD: It was amazing. It was my way to test my line in the New York market, the world’s fashion capital. I got a lot of positive feedback and support from the fashion industry. You really have to be hands on. I feel like I need to move to New York to really be there. I tried here in Atlanta and it really did not work and it went well in New York, but I had to go back and forth a lot. I love it in New York and would love to live there and still keep a place in Atlanta when I want to slow down.
ESSENCE.COM: Back in Atlanta you had a little help from Dwight with your other show. SHEREE WHITFIELD: Working with Dwight was okay, but it came off like he did a lot more than he did. He came in on the last week and had some great ideas, but I also had some people in from New York working on it already. We pulled it off and it was awesome. I saw what he was saying in the confessional and was like, “Wow, you didn’t do this by yourself, honey.”
ESSENCE.COM: During your appearance on “Ellen,” you and Kim went at it. Any chance you’ll mend your friendship? SHEREE WHITFIELD: That piece of trash! Kim loves attention. TV made me and Kim’s relationship seem different than it was. She and I were never friends. I don’t believe in messing with married men. If she can do that to someone else, she’s no one that I would ever really hang out with. She’s on TV and doesn’t feel bad messing with a married man. How dumb can you be? Those vows are sacred.
Preliminary autopsy results of the Real Housewives of Atlanta’sAshley “A.J.” Jewell are in, and it includes a surprise finding.
E! News is reporting that Dr. Kelly Rose of the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s believes Kandi Burruss‘ ex-fiancé may have suffered from the sickle-cell anemia blood disorder, which may have contributed to his death during a fight outside an Atlanta strip club.
“Preliminary results are suggestive of [sickle-cell],” said Rose. AJ sustained a severe blow to the head in the Oct. 2 brawl that took his life at the Body Tap Club. He was allegedly a co-owner of the strip club.
The sickle-cell anemia disorder affects red blood cells, and may have restricted AJ’s body’s oxygen supply and exacerbated his injuries. Rose believes “The altercation played a role in that [his death], and his underlying disease process contributed to his overall demise.”
A final report that will state his official cause of death is expected in the near future. Frederick Richardson, a club employee, was charged with voluntary manslaughter and is currently being held in an Atlanta jail without bond.
