Remember that time Kim Kardashian stamped her feet and swore that Old Navy was trying to use a copycat version of her for their commercials and she threatened to sue? She did. And she won. Seriously.
For those who don't remember, Old Navy used singer and model Melissa Molinaro in a commercial in early 2011. She looks similar to Kim but that could be said for MANY women out there. Kim felt Old Navy was deceiving consumers since some of her Twitter followers mistook Melissa for Kim, so she sued them.
I hadn't heard much about the case, so I thought maybe Kim decided to drop that bit of ridiculousness, but that wasn't the case. Even though legal experts felt that Kim's case was a little far-fetched, Old Navy was ordered to pay Kim off.
According to a new report by TMZ, Kim Kardashian has decided to sue Old Navy for using an alleged look-alike in one of their commercials.
If you recall, the Old Navy commercial made headlines earlier this year after some fans stated they had to do a double take to see if the girl in the commercial, Melissa Molinaro, was indeed Kim.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashiansstar remained mum on the topic back then, though sources revealed she was not happy with the ad campaign. In the lawsuit, Kim claims Old Navy intentionally used the look-alike in an effort to deceive the public into thinking Kim was affiliated with them.
TMZ also reports Kim was more furious that Old Navy was tweeting to her page about the look-alike in hopes of garnering even more publicity. One of those tweets included, “@CBSNEWS reports that Old Navy’s Super CUTE star looks like @kimkardashian. #LOL. What do you think?”
So how much does Kim feel she deserves from Old Navy? Just a mere $15 – $20 million! Wowzers. The Old Navy commercial is below for those who have yet to see it plus some photos from the ad.
My take on this – Upon first seeing the Old Navy commercial, I honestly did a double take because I thought it was Kim. However it was rather obvious it wasn’t Kim plus for starters, there was nothing in the press about Kim doing such a commercial. While Kim’s lawsuit might have some merit, this is a very bad PR move for her. While the public tolerates her, they don’t like her or her talentless family. She’s become filthy rich off a sex tape and having little to no morals. Trying to get more money from her celebrity via a lawsuit is not going to win her any more fans. As expected, in reading the comments on TMZ, over 90% of them are very negative towards her. Similar to her public comments on the Casey Anthony case, this just seems ill advised and has Kris Jenner’s fingerprints all over it. So the question is…
