Tonight is another episode of Basketball Wives LA, and the drama among the ladies is amped up ridiculously high. Sometimes it’s nice to take a step back from the show and remember that the women have lives outside of reality television. Of course, the show is what afforded the stars the multitude of branding and promotional opportunities!
Malaysia Pargo is gracing the cover of next month’s Kontrol Magazine. The Pre-Fall #PureGlamour Issue features the mother of three donning a hand-beaded Adolfo Sanchez gown and a one of a kind Fiori Couture corset. The magazine, which is available on newsstands and at Barnes and Noble on September 4, includes an interview with its BBWLA cover model where Malaysia dishes on her family, new relationships, and growing her empire.
I think we all can agree that it’s not a party in Santa Barbara until Jackie Christie has bandaged her tongue and Shaunie O’Neal arrives. We learn something each week on Basketball Wives: LA, don’t we? She arrives right after the fight between Mehgan James and Brandi Maxiell. At least Brandi, Mehgan, and Malaysia Pargo are able to sit civilly in the kitchen as they rehash the brawl. Shaunie questions Jackie’s drinking, and Jackie goes off on Draya Michele for being mean to Mehgan.
Shaunie, Malaysia, and Brandi retire to a bedroom to further discuss the fight as Meghan and Draya bond over the realization of Jackie’s craziness. Jackie resurfaces to scream about what a great friend she is to Mehgan. With a manicured nail in Mehgan’s face, Jackie swears she had her back before totally losing it. Mehgan grabs a water bottle to launch at Jackie, and Jackie returns the favor by spitting on her. Nostrils is appalled. It’s one thing to punch somebody, but it’s quite another to be trashy and spit. Jackie packs her bags and calls Doug. He needs to take out bail money if anyone else comes after her. Mehgan feels badly for Doug, citing that he’s probably been with someone else because he couldn’t be faithful to the crazy.
And so begins the downfall of Draya Michele. Last night’s Basketball Wives LA centered on a girls’ trip helmed by Brandi Maxiell to Santa Barbara. Why, after so, so, so many times of going on these mini-vacays, a knock-down-drag-out fight ensuing, and the inevitable dread that comes from rehashing said trip at the reunion, do these women think this time will be different? Jackie Christie is stirring the pot as fast as she can, and even the girls who vowed to dislike her forever believe every word that comes out of her exaggerating mouth. It’s comedy gold.
In an effort to bring Angel Brinks into the mix, Draya has invited her to come along as someone who can save her from her friends’ drama. Angel is like a mini-Kardashian, and Draya wants to give her the low down on the ladies with whom they will be traveling. She shares that Shaunie O’Neal isn’t keen on strangers infiltrating their group even though Shaunie herself is considered a newbie according to Draya. Next, Draya mean girls Mehgan James. Angel can’t wait for the weekend!
Basketball Wives LA has transformed into a ridiculous reunion by women who once claimed they never wanted to be part of the show. If this is their plan to redeem themselves from bad behaviors of the past, they are going about it all wrong! Shaunie O’Neal made her crossover last week, but last night’s episode included a cameo by Evelyn Lozada and the arrival of Tami Roman.
The night unfolds with with MehganJames continuing to scream at Draya Michele for the FUPA comment in Jackie Christie’s cognac commercial. Draya stays calm, claiming that she just wanted to spare the newbie from looking badly in the video. After the viewing, Draya remains quiet as Brandi Maxiell, Malaysia Pargo, and Patrice Curry fight her battle. When Mehgan tries to bring Jackie into the argument, Jackie reminds Mehgan that she was the star of beautiful cognac commercial debut and she’s not about to speak out of turn in the silly FRUPA (no R!) battle. Shaunie swoops in to see why the girls are ganging up on Mehgan, and Draya exits with an eye roll. Malaysia dismisses the newbie as Mehgan shows her lack of FUPA to the group, and Jackie is appalled when Meghan ducks out of the debut party without saying good-bye…or thank you.
Basketball Wives: LA started the Miami crossover last night, introducing show creator Shaunie O’Neal. She’s already picking sides and diving into pettiness, which isn’t shocking in the least. When we last left the ladies, Malaysia Pargo and Doug Christie were meeting with a binocular wearing interloper spying from across the street. Reality is so real, y’all!
After Jackie Christie allows her husband to meet with Malaysia, she’s teeming with jealousy, even though Doug promises there is no reason for her insecurities. Doug compliments Malaysia as a person, and Jackie wants to know every single detail of their sit-down. Not wanting to cause too much of scene, Jackie decides to meet with the OG basketball wife Shaunie. Having jumped from the Miami franchise, Shaunie is one nip-slip away from a modesty bar with her latest outfit. The women discuss Jackie’s recent issues with Malaysia, and Shaunie revels in living it up on the cusp of her fortieth birthday. It pains me to be the same age as Shaunie. Jackie dishes on Doug’s latest sex drive, and admittedly, I tune out for a bit.
It’s horrible, but I can’t wait for Shaunie O’Neal and Tami Roman to arrive on the scene of Basketball Wives: LA. I know I will grow to regret ever making that statement, but something needs to break up the lather, rinse, repeat monotony of this group! Am I right?
Last night’s episode begins with Draya Michele revealing Malaysia Pargo’s request to meet with Doug Christie. Jackie Christie did promise she’d do whatever it takes to make nice, and Malaysia knows that’s the one thing that Jackie would never allow…so they will never have to be friends again. Draya tries to explain that Malaysia just wants to learn more about Jackie from the person who knows her best. Jackie is confused…this woman wants to meet with her husband while she’s not around? Draya wonders if she should have used the word “date” to describe the event instead of calling it a meeting. Too late now!
VH1 has us pegged for sure. As the summer wears on and reruns abound, we can count on reality shows to provide us with some new material and much needed drama. Enter the ladies of Basketball Wives: LA. Who cares if you’re the wife of a basketball player? If you want to create tension with the series veterans, by all means, join in the shenanigans! Last night was the long awaited (by me, at least, but I know I can’t be the only one!) premiere of the latest season of BBW: LA, and it did not disappoint.
It’s been so long, I can’t keep up with which ladies hate the others, which ones threatened to never return but are still front and center, and why in the world Tami Roman decided to jump casts. I’m sure it won’t be too difficult to catch up to speed. The episode begins with Malaysia Pargo redecorating her home in the midst of her divorce from Jannero Pargo, and Brandi Maxiell stops in to check up on her friend. She’s ready to play matchmaker, but Malaysia wants some me time for a change. Malaysia explains that she couldn’t keep being disrespected by her husband, and he wasn’t willing to go to counsel. Brandi can relate, but she’s not willing to consider divorce…yet. Malaysia wants to change the subject, but she doesn’t want it re-routed to a conversation about Jackie Christie. She hasn’t forgiven Jackie for her behavior and insensitive comments last season, so it will be game on when the ladies are forced to interact.
