Lo and behold, it's already Hollywood Week (my favorite!) in American Idol time!
Considering the exhaustingly long search for judges and the drama that ensued once they were finally chosen, I'm shocked we didn't hear more about the American Idol auditions. I'm not complaining – just saying! Now that Ryan Seacrest and the American Idol judges aren't on the road, they're dishing about the mood at the judges' table thus far.
According to Randy, we can look forward to lot of "funny" this season. He says, "Nicki is mad funny, and Mariah is mad funny, and Keith is very quick-witted and funny." Randy adds that he wants to be Simon Cowell when he grows up, "We're all kind of silly, but I guess maybe I'm the harsh one. I'm the quickest to say no."
American Idol is dead set on four judges for the upcoming season because it worked so well the last time, presumably to compete with newer and hipper singing competitions like The Voice and The X Factor, so there is still one vacant spot.
Still, the end might be near, because Enrique Iglesias is currently sitting on an offer from American Idol for about $4 million. Coincidentally, Enrique just wrapped up a tour with former Idol judge Jennifer Lopez.
So the big question is, who will round out the judges’ panel? While rumors run rampant, I can say that there will likely be two seats filled. Why, you ask? It appears that longtime Idol fixture and judge Randy Jackson will be transitioning into a mentor role. He certainly has the credentials, and the contestants would surely benefit from his knowledge.
Mariah signed on the dotted line today and it seems that she and J-Lo have more in common than having twin babies, as Mariah will be paid a whopping $12 million, the same amount that Jennifer was earning during her stint on the show.
TMZ reports that Adam Lambert and Miley Cyrus are still in the running for the other empty seat.
UPDATE: TMZ now says her paycheck for one season stands at $18 million!
TELL US – DO YOU WANT TO WATCH NOW THAT MARIAH HAS SIGNED ON? DO YOU THINK SHE’S WORTH TWELVE MILLION DOLLARS?
