Yesterday’s Project Runway All Stars challenge mixed two of my favorite things of all time: food and fashion! Woo hoo! Sadly all the results were pretty yuck. The challenge was a little convoluted. The designers had to make an outfit inspired by the colors and flavors of gelato that made an extravagant fashion statement worthy of a red carpet — all within six hours. It would take me that long to pick a gelato!

Angela meets the designers on the runway accompanied by a gelato cart and everyone picks a flavor using the high school gym class method. Their look must use the color of the gelato as well as derive inspiration from the flavor. Then, Diane Von Furstenburg, Queen of International Ready To Wear (according to Austin Scarlet), takes the runway. Diane adds new, discombobulated element to the challenge; their look must also make a fabulous and innovative fashion moment. Inspired by ice cream flavors. In SIX HOURS!

On Last night’s episode of Project Runway All Stars, the designers were challenged to make a pig look like a lady. Miss Piggy to be exact!

Hostess Angela Lindvall takes the runway and coyly reveals that the designers will be dressing a world-famous celebrity, known for her red carpet style. The air was breathless with anticipation. And a collective sigh of disappointment escaped when our intrepid sewers learned they were actually dressing a Muppet!

The designers are tasked with dressing Miss Piggy for the red carpet to promote the new Muppet movie. At first I was very annoyed at the obvious product play this challenge presented – and really a dress for a puppet? Nonsense! But the way all the designers and the judges approached the challenge, as if Miss Piggy were a real-live lady, was refreshing in an ironic and fun way. It definitely provided some interesting commentary!

Ok kiddos, it’s episode two of Project Runway All Stars and just as the clothes are sharper, so is the scrutiny! These designers don’t mess around and don’t hesitate to go brutal in the isolation interviews. And the judges expect much, much more from the little sewing wizards they’ve employed to make Project Runway relevant again.

This week’s challenge was to create a high-end, glamorous, “couture” evening gown for a night at the opera. The directives are issued by famed evening wear design duo Badgley Mischka, who demands “classic, elegant, and head-turning”.

On any other given Project Runway, I would only guarantee the head turning, but it would be more of the train wreck variety; however in All Star flavor things are a little more Caviar than Cool-Whip.

The designers have $350 and one mere day to design this outfit for arias and I have to say couture in a day? No comprende. Couture implies careful details and usually takes eons, as Austin described. Luckily, the judges are only looking for “couture touches.” The touches being the operative word. Touch is important, is it not?

Last night was the season premiere of Project Runway All Stars and frankly after a couple of completely disappointing seasons of regular Project Runway they had to do something to save this mess of a show.

To prove they are serious about fashion, Lifetime is bringing back some of the big guns of seasons pasts. I have to admit I was slightly disappointed that most of the “all stars” were from the Lifetime seasons of the show instead of the infinitely more talent soaked Bravo seasons, but at least Anthony Williams and Mondo Guerro returned! I am SO excited for another season of Mondo’s fantastical clothes and Anthony’s amazing one liners. Loves it!

For fans of Project Runway when it was an amazing show featuring talented and innovative designers — it’s back! Lifetime has announced Project Runway All Stars will premiere this January, featuring 13 of the show’s most memorable and talented designers!

The All Stars series will have new judges (nope, no Heidi Klum), cutthroat competition and plenty of fashion to judge and snark at! Angela Lindvall, Vogue covergirl extraordinaire will serve as hostess. The judging panel will also feature famous designers Issac Mizrahi (also of Bravo’s The Fashion Show) and Georgina Chapman (behind the celeb favorite line Marchesa). Marie Claire’s Editor-in-Chief Joanna Coles, who has made several appearances on Project Runway, the original, will be replacing Tim Gunn as the designer mentor.

Included in the cray-cray is a bevy of impressive guest judges from Miss Piggy, supermodel Miranda Kerr and musician and producer Pharrell Williams, among others!

The prizes are incredible! The winner receives an exclusive designer boutique in select Neiman Marcus locations and on the store’s website, $100,000 dollars from HP and Intel, $100,000 cash from L’Oreal Paris, a feature in Marie Claire Magazine plus a guest editor position at the magazine for one year, and a sewing and embroidery studio provided by Brother International. WOW! Well, at least we know these guys can sew a sleeve and insert a zipper!
