West Virginia Mayor Is Happy About BUCKWILD Cancellation

As we previously reported, MTV has decided to cancel BUCKWILD in the wake of Shain Gandee's untimely death.

Personally, I found Shain to be the breakout star of the show, and I cannot imagine watching a single episode void of his beautiful smile and endearing personality. My gut tells me that MTV feels the same way.

While BUCKWILD's producer and cast are upset about the cancellation, the mayor of Charleston, West Virginia is blissfully happy. "I'm relieved and happy the show is canceled, and so is everyone around here," Mayor Danny Jones shared with TMZ. "The show does nothing for us and exaggerates every negative stereotype about us."

BUCKWILD Producer And Cast React To Cancellation; Teen Mom 2′s Jenelle Evans Disses BUCKWILD On Twitter

MTV has decided to pull the plug on BUCKWILD following the tragic death of Shain Gandee. Needless to say, the show's cast and producer J.P. Williams are not happy.

According to J.P., on Friday, MTV told those involved with production that BUCKWILD will continue as planned. Then, on Tuesday, MTV canceled the series. No explanation was given.

"This is the network that has shows about teen pregnancy. They'll stick by a show that allows you to abandon a child, but a kid dies by accident doing what he does for a living [mudding] and they cancel the show,” J.P. said. “There's something that smells of s–t here on every level."

Photos and Cast Bios: MTV’s BUCKWILD Premieres Tonight

MTV's BUCKWILD premieres tonight. The controversial new series follows a group of nine young, carefree, and adventurous friends from West Virginia who "love to dodge grown-up responsibilities" and "find unique ways to create their own fun." Pretty much, if you combine Jersey Shore, Jackass, and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo… you get BUCKWILD.

That said, according to executive producer John Stevens, BUCKWILD isn't all about the mud racing, body licking, squirrel hunting, reckless driving, and garbage throwing you've seen in the previews. (though that does sound lovely)

John says, "Look at any TV or movie trailer out there, and it will grab your attention with the most outrageous stuff. That's just a formula that broadcasters and movie companies have used forever. I don't think that's indicative of what the show is. BUCKWILD has a lot of wild moments to it, but I think it's got tons of heart, and I think you're going to see some really fun kinds of relationships."

MTV mirrors John's sentiment, stating, "The BUCKWILD cast's bond with family and friends is always at the core for this eccentric group where anything goes!"

Will The Controversy Surrounding MTV’s Buckwild Make It The Next Jersey Shore?

If you've been watching anything on MTV, chances are you've seen previews for it's new reality show Buckwild. It's like Jersey Shore, but with rednecks…and a lot of dangerous looking antics. I think it would make Honey Boo Boo proud.

Remember when Italian Americans and the citizens of New Jersey had such an issue with our favorite GTLers? Well, West Virginians and Southerners are feeling the same way about Buckwild. I have to say though that all of this controversy is making me want to watch the insanity…even though, as a Southerner, I should be totally offended.
