It seems all attempts by Italian groups and lawmakers to get Jersey Shore taken off the air has only helped propel the MTV show into being more popular.
Case in point – the Jersey Shore cast is currently on the cover of PEOPLE this week. The ratings for the show have also gone through the roof as the show is now averaging over 2 million viewers a week.
The cast has also been able to catapult the show’s popularity into cold hard cash. According to TMZ, the show’s break out star, Nicole akaSnooki is generating a $10,000 fee to make club appearances. Her fellow castmates, DJ Pauly D and Mike aka The Situation are also able to generate $7,500 per club appearance.
It gets even better as sources tell TMZ The Situation is booked every weekend for the next two months! Guess it really pays to be a Guido/Guidette.
The 23 year old star reached a plea deal on Thursday with Los Angeles prosecutors and was sentenced to three years of informal probation, in addition to being required to pay a fine and attend an alcohol education course and AA meetings.
Stephanie’s DUI charges were dropped after she plead no contest to a misdemeanor “exhibition of speed” charge. She has previously described her arrest as “the worst thing to happen to me and, at the same time, it was the biggest blessing.”
Tonight’s episode of MTV’s hit show Jersey Shore will feature another run in with the law. This time around, it involves cast member Ronnie Magro, who was arrested back in September after getting into a fight with another man in front of MTV’s cameras.
Ronnie Ortiz-Magro was arrested on Sept. 4 for aggravated assault for striking a man with a closed fist. Ronnie, 24, tells PEOPLE that though the charges have now been dismissed, he did spend a few hours in jail, had a mug shot taken and paid about $600 for bail.
Ronnie claims he was provoked while he was walking home from a bar with Snooki and their costar Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola. According to Ronnie, the other person involved in the fight was being disrespectful to his friends, shouted “racist” remarks at their African-American security guards and might have spat on him. He however regrets the incident, “I definitely felt out of place,” he says of being in jail. “It’s definitely a place I never want to go back to again. Definitely a lesson learned.”
Still A Couple – In other news, Ronnie and his girlfriend from the show, Sammie Sweetheart are surprisingly still going strong. The pair confirms to PEOPLE that they are indeed still together and care very much for each other. “I care about her deeply and I see it going for a long time,” Ronnie says. “I don’t really want to jinx anything [but] I love being with her. I have a best friend that’s my girlfriend, which is really hard to find.”
Adds Sammie: “I’m very happy and content with my life right now. Things are just amazing and I’m just gonna go with it.”
Jenni “J-WOWW” Farley, has also reconciled with her boyfriend Tom, despite cheating on him with costar DJ Pauly D on the show. Jenni says all is well with their relationship and he moved in four months ago.
And finally, the ladies of the show stripped off their 5035 20 pounds of make up for a makeunder photo-shoot courtesy of In Touch magazine.
From left to right, Jenni “J-Woww” Farley, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, and Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola — who swear by eyeliner, bronzer, and lip gloss — ditched their make up for the shoot. Must say Snooki looks the best, she should consider making this look permanent.
The finale of MTV’s fashion reality show – Styl’d aired last night with Brett Nelson being declared the winner. The Kansas city born native beat out runner up Gary Samuelian to take home the grand prize.
The finale episode began with the immediate firing of Janna, whom according to Jen Rade, just didn’t have what it takes to become a stylist. Next to go was Cody who’s weakness was not being able to style women as well as he did men’s styling.
The final 3 came down to Brett, Gary and Tara. The judges including Julie Weiss, Jen Rade and Eric Archibald ultimately decided that Tara was not right for the job due to her attitude problem. This left Brett and Gary to battle it out for the chance to sign a contract with the Margaret Maldonado Agency styling agency.
The judges felt Brett was the better man for the job and he was offered the MMA styling contract. No word yet on whether or not the show will be back for a second season.
I was actually a big fan of this show and was rooting for Gary to win. I felt he was right up there with Brett, and was actually surprised the judges would feel more comfortable sending Brett out on a job over Gary.

It seems almost everyone nowadays, including Alyssa Milano & New Jersey lawmakers, are not fans of MTV’s hit reality show – Jersey Shore. The town in which the show was filmed is now attempting to distance itself from the controversial show.
The Borough of Seaside Heights — the New Jersey beach town that’s home to the show – released a statement on Monday saying it “did not solicit, promote or participate in the filming” of the show. The town did however issue a permit allowing the production company to film, but says those permits are issued routinely.
The town also insists the show doesn’t reflect the majority of its visitors.
In other news, it seems controversy sells as ratings for Jersey Shore continue to soar each week. According to TVGuide, ratings for the MTV series increased to 2.5 million viewers for the December 17th episode. In the adults ages 18-49 demo, the show rose 27 percent to a 1.4 rating. Jersey Shore also earned a 2.2 rating among women ages 18-34.
This is in comparison to the 1.3 million viewers the show debuted to on December 4th.
New Jersey lawmakers are the latest group to get on the anti Jersey Shore bandwagon.
The AP is reporting that the the New Jersey Italian American Legislative Caucus, sent a letter to the president of Viacom, MTV’s parent company on Tuesday. Caucus chairman Joseph Vitale is asking that the show be immediately taken off the air.
The group believes the show promotes derogatory ethnic stereotypes and is “wildly offensive.” The NJ lawmakers are also asking advertisers to boycott the show. As of Wednesday, MTV has yet to issue a response.
In other news, we reported previously that Italian actress Alyssa Milano was not a big fan on the show. In the hilarious Funny or Die clip below, the actress can be seeing portraying castmember Nicole aka Snooki, in a parody of the popular Dove beauty commercial. The clip is below -
Jersey Shore cast members Mike The Situation, Snooki, and DJ Paulie Dialogue also get in on the fun in their own parody video.
MTV is once again stirring up controversy with the debut of their new show – Jersey Shore. The show, which follows a group of 20 something year old Italians as they live and work on the Garden State’s shoreline, has been criticized by some Italian American groups as being offensive and reinforcing stereotypes of Italian-Americans.
UNICONational — the “Largest Italian American Service Organization in the USA” — claims they “can’t keep up with the volume of calls” from “outraged” Italian Americans. They added that it should be pulled from the air. The backlash doesn’t end there, as advertisers – Domino’s and American Family Insurance have requested that their ads be pulled from the show.
MTVhowever continues to stand by the show. “We understand that this show is not intended for every audience and depicts just one aspect of youth culture,” MTV’s spokesman told Fox News on Tuesday. “Our intention was never to stereotype, discriminate or offend.”
The cast of Jersey Shore can be seen continuously referring to themselves as “Guidos” and “Guidettes” on the show. Both terms have long been found to be offensive to Italians.
One of the cast members, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, however defends the use of the term ‘Guido.’ “The older generation doesn’t understand. These days in New York and New Jersey a ‘guido’ is a good-looking Italian male that likes to have fun and a ‘guidette’ is a good-looking Italian girl,” Mike tells EW.com.
I actually saw the premier episode of this show and was a bit surprised to see the term “Guido,” be used so frequently by the cast. Always assumed the term was offensive. Other than that, the show pretty much fell in line with all the other MTV reality shows, such as the Real World. It was pretty much the same formula – follow a group of 20 something year olds as they get drunk, and make complete asses of themselves on national television. It’s likely the show is here to stay as it premiered to rather good ratings, the premier episode was seem by a total of 1.4 million viewers.
