“With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to Idol,” Abdul, 47, writes on her Twitter page. “I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day one become an international phenomenon.”
She adds: “What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me. I do, without any doubt, have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all.”
Paula’s reps have refused to comment except provide a confirmation that she is leaving. The show will begin taping for the 9th season, with auditions starting in Denver.
FOX TV also released a statement saying, “Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol family over the last eight seasons and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show,” “While Paula will not be continuing with us, she’s a tremendous talent and we wish her the best.”
With Paula gone, the three other judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi will return.

American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi weds contractor boyfriend, Mike McCuddy after dating for a year and a half in Prospect Harbor, Maine, according to Usmagazine.com. McCuddy proposed on Dec. 8, 2008 on DioGuardi’s 38th birthday.
The ceremony was attended by very close friends and family members. There were no idol judges present. “They are absolutely in love with each other,” Pastor Nurse tells Us. “When I told him he could kiss the bride, everybody cheered. It was a very close, small family-type service.”
The newly married AI judge will return for season nine of American idol with Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest later this summer.
Among DioGuardi’s hits have been “I Do Not Hook Up,” with Kelly Clarkson; “Ain’t No Other Man,” with Christina Aguilera; and “Pieces of Me,” with Ashlee Simspon-Wentz. DioGuardi, a talented songwriter is expected to work with Rascal Flatts and Little Big Town in August.
It seems all four American Idol judges will be returning for season 9 after all. According to RadarOnline.com, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Kara DioGuardi will be returning to the next season of American Idol despite initial rumors surrounding the show.
Since Abdul’s contract was up, there were speculations of her not returning to the show and that Kara may not return since she only signed a one year contract. Having four judges seemed to be problematic for the live show because it slowed down the pacing says Abdul and Cowell.
Timing issues will be addressed on the next season. At the moment, Abdul and Dioguardi are still in negotiations though sources believe the contracts will be finalized in a few weeks. Sources also believe a formal announcement will be made in a few weeks.
On Monday, the three American Idol finalists took the stage to perform live for the nation. As usual, these three contestants will sing their hearts out thriving to get America’s vote and moving on to the next week. They had to sing two songs, one chosen by the judge and the other a personal choice. The last three are AdamLambert, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen.
Gokey chose to sing “Dance Little Sister” by Terrance Trent D’arby – Paula Abdul’s selection for him. Paula thought he did a great job while Simon said the dancing was somewhat desperate. Jackson thought the performance was energetic while Kara said the performance was not memorable. Gokey’s personal choice was “You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker.
Allen followed Gokey by singing “Apologize” by one Republic which was chosen by Randy and Kara. I thought Kris performed extremely well but the judges and you viewers have the final say. Kara said she wanted more from the performance while Simon criticized her for the choice of song.Paula said she was proud of him despite the error he made. Allen’s choice for the night was a different and enjoyable version of – Heartless by Kanye West! All judges had nothing but praises after the performance.
Adam sang “One”-Cowell got special permission from Bono and U2 for the song. Adam totally changed the version of the song. Kara thought the performance was unbelievable while Paula calls him the American idol which Simon agrees. Randy said “Adam is in the zone”. Cowell was convinced that Adam will be in the finale.Adam’s personal choice was an Aerosmith song. Kara was also convinced he will be in the finale.
Following the elimination of Danny Gokey, leaving two idol contestants to sing it out. As we count the days to the finale, who will be the next American idol. Stay tuned!
Kara DioGuardi is confirming her time is up as a judge on American Idol after this season. The reason being that Kara only signed on to do one season.
Kara tells TV Guide “I’m only here for one season,” she says. “That’s what we’ve discussed. So we’ll see what happens. Hopefully they’ll keep me on.”
Simon Cowell was also asked on whether or not Kara would be back next season, he said, “I would imagine so, but the only say I have is about Ryan, Randy and Paula. I’ve always made it clear that I wouldn’t like to do the show without them. So that’s all I’m really concerned about.” Interesting comment by Simon, it might be safe to say Kara won’t be coming back next season.

American Idolwill reportedly go back to its usual way of judging the contestants—each judge gives a critique—on Tuesday night’s performance show, according to a set source.
The Fans were very unhappy with last week’s judging process during which the producers opted for “judging in pairs.” Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul would judge one contestant, and Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi would judge the next contestant, and so on. This was done in an attempt to keep from going over its allotted time as it had the week before.
A poll done by Eonline showed that 68.2 percent of the fans voted against voting in pairs, saying they wanted to hear what all four judges had to say about each performance. The fans also voted as to which judge was their least favorite and the results were rather interesting –
Which judge can you do without?
Kara DioGuardi, 44.3 percent
Paula Abdul, 35.7 percent
Randy Jackson, 17.4 percent
Simon Cowell, 2.6 percent
Also in a first this week, the judges decided to save Matt Giraud from elimination meaning two contestants will be going home next week.
Who Is Your Least Favorite Judge on American Idol?
Megan Joy was eliminated this week from American Idol after saying she “didn’t care” what Simon thought. Megan recently spoke to E! about being eliminated, her family, and getting a new tattoo –
On Saying She ‘Didn’t Care’: When asked Wednesday night what she thought of Simon’s criticism of her, Megan flippantly said she “didn’t care.” Now, she explains, “I care about the competition. I didn’t want people to misunderstand me not caring. I just didn’t care that Simon didn’t like my song. So, I couldn’t help but be honest.”
On the Kara-Brother Fight: On the commercial break after Kara got heckled by C.J., the judge went up to her heckler and had words with him. “I think she was just kind of like, ‘How dare you? Who do you think you are?’ And then she was like, ‘Who are you?’ He’s like, ‘Her brother.’ And then she was like, ‘Oooh. I see.’ It was kind of funny.”
On Her Most Memorable Night: “The night I was sick. The miracle that I actually got through my song because I was literally was laying on the ground with IVs in me [30 minutes] before.”
On Reuniting With Son Ryder: “I’m gonna hold him for as long as he’ll let me, and I’m going to try not to sob like a lunatic because I’m sure he’ll just be confused and scared. It’s going to be beautiful. I cannot wait.” She adds that she doesn’t get to go home until “hopefully Wednesday” because she has to “wrap things up here” and finish doing press.
On Her Next Tattoo: “I had a lucky ring that I’ve worn the entire time, and I’m going to have that tattooed on my ribs.” (Ouch!)
The new American Idol rule that gives the “American Idol” judges the power to save one singer voted off by the fans wasn’t enough to keep the first two finalists from getting the boot. Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez were sent home Wednesday, reducing the number of contestants to 11.
The new rule essentially gives the judges the power to veto or overrule the choice of the voters. For example, the judges can decide not to send home the contestant getting the lowest votes. This is however a one time privilege meaning the judges can only to this once this season. Plus all four judges have to agree to save the contestant.
Once saved, the contestant is however on their own for the next week and could end up going home the next week if they are one of the two lowest vote getters. If a contestant is saved, then two contestants are eliminated the next week. Also this veto has to happen before the finalists get down to the final five.
This rule might just be what AI needs to shake things up and perhaps help a deserving contestant stay on longer. The French version of the show has had this rule in place, and it has been a success. It makes it less of a popularity contest and more of a talent competition.
