It seems like there is a Kandi Burruss-centered story line in every episode of this Real Housewives of Atlanta season. She has been on the show since season two, but this is the first one where Kandi is really taking a lot of heat. It started with the demise of her friendship with Phaedra Parks and it has continued with Porsha Williams accusing her of attempted drugging and having a sex dungeon. Now Phaedra is involved in a lawsuit against Kandi and she did not see it coming… until she watched the latest episodes.
After conquering LA with her Cargo collection, Cynthia is ready to take on Atlanta – America’s fashion mecca. Let’s be honest though, the real person Cynthia needs to impress is Sheree Whitfield. THE elegant and sophisticated fashion pioneer behind the infamous and influential She By Sheree. Big leagues!
Kairo has modeling dreams so as a favor to build his portfolio Cynthia asked him to walk in her show. Kairo dead-eye shuffles like he’s auditioning for The Walking Dead and is carrying his former human life in that mock-croc backpack. Sheree is the only one impressed, and she’s the only one unimpressed that Kairo’s only compensation is a measly bag. Even though most of the models aren’t even getting that.
I gotta say Phaedra really disappointed me. Usually I’d see Kenya as the cartoon cheetah in this scenario, but last night it was sooo Phaedra! One thing about this trip to Maui was that that the ladies really shed their facades and let their guards down for a change.
The episode opens with Kenya and Phaedra playing tennis, bantering as they batted balls – badly – back and forth. Kenya seems hopeful that she and Phaedra are on their way to a real friendship, but Phaedra is still content to keep things at a distance. Although she’s glad she and Kenya aren’t having drama like everyone else. DUH – DUH -DUH… that’s some horror movie foreshadowing right there! Especially when Phaedra mentions, again, that she doesn’t quite trust Kenya (or any of these girls) with the status of her divorce.
Hell basically froze over this season on Real Housewives of Atlantawhen Kenya Moore and Phaedra Parks put an end to their years of feuding and throwing shade. They actually got along for more than one episode and Kenya even helped Phaedra with her summer camp for kids affected by the Flint water crisis. After Phaedra’s reaction and mean text to Kenya throwing her a divorce party, it seems like their peace was short-lived.
After this week’s disturbing episode of The Real Housewives Of Atlanta in which Sheree Whitfield’s ex-husband, Bob Whitfield, joked about choking Sheree in the past, some are wondering what the status of their relationship is now? Sheree says they are not back together, but do have a friendship – for the sake of their children. (Let’s hope Bob also has a damn good therapist.)
Recalling the horrific moment in the van that Bob joked about not choking Sheree “hard enough” when they were married because she’s “still breathing,” Sheree says, “I was just shocked. Speechless. So many times as women, we just try to bury negative thoughts and traumatic situations, so when we were in the car and he said those things, it just brought so much from our past up that I have tried to suppress for well over a decade.”
Kenya Moore shouldn’t really EVER be surprised when a cast mate has an issue with her. But on The Real Housewives Of Atlanta this week, she was shocked when Sheree Whitfield turned on her during Phaedra Parks‘ absolutely ridiculous “Restoration Service” – especially because Kenya had comforted Sheree earlier that day after Bob Whitfield callously joked about abusing Sheree in the past.
Kenya recalls Bob’s comments that sent everyone reeling – and ultimately caused Sheree to break down in tears. “The entire conversation turned my stomach and made me want to exact revenge upon him for Sheree. I wanted to defend her from the pain he was causing her in that moment. It wasn’t funny, and I know all too well what that feels like.”
Bob Whitfield laid down some seriously messed up talk on this week’s Real Housewives Of Atlanta, and the cast and viewers alike still haven’t fully recovered. Nor, in my opinion, should they. Housewives will be Housewives, and snark will be snark. But Bob’s cavalier comments about not choking Sheree Whitfield “hard enough” in the past were just plain grotesque and dangerous. Domestic violence is not a laughing matter.
Phaedra Parks agrees, sharing that she was “shocked and somewhat disturbed by him finding humor related to such a serious situation. Watching the emotional impact it had on Sheree was heart breaking. I encouraged him to apologize to ease her pain as they were clearly on two different pages. It was obvious Bob did not appreciate the emotional gravity of his words and tone.”
The problem is Porsha told a lie. She told a really damning and smearing lie. While lying is no new thing to this show (and it is amusing that Kenya Moore, who has told more falsehoods than Pinocchio, is the most enraged about Porsha’s lie), Porsha has told a lie that could potentially have legal ramifications or ruin Kandi’s reputation. The worst though is that Porsha doesn’t seem bothered by that, and doesn’t seem to get how bad this is. Nor does she seem bothered that Kandi is so upset. Which is especially disconcerting considering that Porsha and Kandi were once close friends.
