As the second season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta ended so has their relationship off camera. The ladies attended the Soul Train Awards in Atlanta where Kandi BurrussandSheree Whitfield revealed that their friendships are only on screen and once the cameras stop rolling so does their “friendship”.
“It’s a working relationship,” Sheree told BET.com. “We don’t hang out. I don’t wanna say it’s just for the show. We were put on the show and we were not friends so it’s something that you have to build. Am I saying that would never happen, no I’m not saying that? But right now, it’s just a working relationship.”
“We do not make up things for TV,” Kandi told BET. “The arguments are real, the bonds…I don’t know about the bonds. I mean, of course because we have to be around each other for the show, you know? I don’t know if we would always hang out that much.”
It’s no surprise that their on camera “friendship” is almost as fake as the title “Housewives”. At least we can give the Atlanta housewives credit for being honest.
When Kandi Burrussfirst joined the cast of the Atlanta Housewives, no one knew what to expect from this newbie. Throughout all the drama, Kandi has managed to keep her cool in dealing with love, life and drama. During the season, Kandi got along with all the housewives’ except NeNe Leakes. However, in the interview with ESSENCE, she reveals that she and NeNe are cool. The Grammy-winning singer and songwriter also talks about her upcoming album.
Below are excerpts from Kandi’s interview with ESSENCE:
ESSENCE.COM: Now that the reunion show is upon us, do you feel you and NeNe had any resolve?
KANDI BURRUSS: I didn’t really need any resolve. I feel the argument between her and me was so petty. I’m one of those who believes if it’s nothing and she’s cool with me then I’m good too, so let’s keep it moving. I would say that during the cast’s last trip to L.A. we pretty much got along, and I was thinking, okay, she’s cool again. Fine, then let’s be cool.
ESSENCE.COM: Before your fiance’s untimely passing he gave one interview and shared his thoughts about your mom. How’d you feel about what he said?
BURRUSS: I was pretty upset and not feeling too tough about parts of it because it wasn’t necessary. He said that she needs a man, but he tried to hook my mother up with some married guy. I asked him if he was married and A.J. told me no. The first time my mother and this man met, they had a conversation and he told her that he wanted to be honest with her and admitted that he was married, so they never dated or saw each other after that. My mom was angry and called to tell me, and I was like, wel,l I didn’t know. But I try not to harp on that because he’s no longer here, but that was my gut reaction when I read the article.
ESSENCE.COM: Congrats on releasing your EP of your upcoming album, “B.L.O.G.” (B—— Love Online Gossip). Have you been inspired to write a song in memory of A.J.?
BURRUSS: On the EP there’s a song on I’d written earlier on A.J. and my relationship called “I Just Know.” It really could be a wedding song it’s so beautiful and it fit the best point of our relationship. So my holding the release of my album isn’t so much because I want to add songs as a tribute, but it’s too much going on right now and instead of making rush decisions I was like, Let me just slow down after experiencing two deaths back-to-back. Again, this EP will just give my fans a taste of what’s to come on my album.
ESSENCE.COM: Well, we can’t wait after knowing the magic you worked on Kim’s single “Tardy for the Party.” Is there anything you’d like to say in parting?
BURRUSS: I just want to thank everyone for showing so much love and support over these last few weeks, especially those who sent me Twitter messages. Although I wasn’t replying, I really did appreciate them. Every time I got teary-eyed I’d read those messages and they would make me feel better. I don’t know why the kind thought of strangers lifts you up, but they did and I’m so grateful for that kindness.
In a recent interview with Essence, Sheree reveals her plans to relocate, talks about her fashion line, and whether she’d be back for the third season.
Below are excerpts from Sheree’s new interview:
ESSENCE.COM: Congrats on your first fashion show in New York. What did you take away from the experience? SHEREE WHITFIELD: It was amazing. It was my way to test my line in the New York market, the world’s fashion capital. I got a lot of positive feedback and support from the fashion industry. You really have to be hands on. I feel like I need to move to New York to really be there. I tried here in Atlanta and it really did not work and it went well in New York, but I had to go back and forth a lot. I love it in New York and would love to live there and still keep a place in Atlanta when I want to slow down.
ESSENCE.COM: Back in Atlanta you had a little help from Dwight with your other show. SHEREE WHITFIELD: Working with Dwight was okay, but it came off like he did a lot more than he did. He came in on the last week and had some great ideas, but I also had some people in from New York working on it already. We pulled it off and it was awesome. I saw what he was saying in the confessional and was like, “Wow, you didn’t do this by yourself, honey.”
ESSENCE.COM: During your appearance on “Ellen,” you and Kim went at it. Any chance you’ll mend your friendship? SHEREE WHITFIELD: That piece of trash! Kim loves attention. TV made me and Kim’s relationship seem different than it was. She and I were never friends. I don’t believe in messing with married men. If she can do that to someone else, she’s no one that I would ever really hang out with. She’s on TV and doesn’t feel bad messing with a married man. How dumb can you be? Those vows are sacred.
The photo on the right is of Big Poppa aka Lee Najjarand his wife, who is ironically also named Kim, and strangely enough looks a lot like Kim Zolciak. Lee is an extremely wealthy real estate developer in Atlanta.
This news is interesting considering the fact that Kim confirmed she and Big Poppa were still together just a week ago during her appearance of Bravo’s “Watch What Happens.” She even went as far as to reveal that she and Big Poppa had been intimate a week earlier.
The habitual liar Atlanta housewife wrote on her twitter page — “There is NO more Big Poppa and Kim FYI. The show was filmed months ago things have changed..So happy.” She has however spent the past few months sporting an “engagement” ring she claimed was a gift from Big Poppa. Not exactly sure how one can be engaged to a still married man, but evidently anything goes in Kim’s world.
Below is a photo of Kim and Big Poppa taken while the duo vacationed –
Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kim Zolciak should have taken her own advice, as she is now being sued for being tardy on a payment by music producer, Don Vito.
“Tardy for the Party,” the first single from Kim’s upcoming album, has been removed from iTunes on Monday afternoon because she allegedly has yet to pay the song’s producer for the time she spent in the studio.
“The song was number three on iTunes’ dance chart for the last four days, but since Don Vito owns the copyright to the song and he hasn’t been paid, he requested that the song be taken down off iTunes,” a source told E! News.
Kim’s manager and publicist Jonathan Jaxsonhad no official comment while Don Vito had only nice things to say about the tardy for the payment singer.
“I think [Kim] is a good person and it was fun working in the studio with her,” he said. “We made a great record and I look forward to working with her on the album again.”
One can only wonder is this whole “lawsuit” is nothing other than a big publicity stunt to promote her single. Surely Big Poppa akaLee Najjarcould have foot the bill for this.
The photos were shot by celebrity photographer Derek Blanks. Nene Leakesplayed the role of a mother and a stripper – a role she’s all too well familiar with, as she has admitted to being a stripper in the past.
Kim Zolciak’s alter ego had her playing a mistress and stepford wife. Kim has however denied wanting to play a mistress, claiming she was under the impression she would be playing a different role, and would have never agreed to play a mistress. Nene however insists it was Kim’s idea to play a mistress.
I thought Sheree and Kandi had the best photos. Photos are courtesy of Dblanks.com.
“We were just having fun,” NeNe toldRadarOnline exclusively at a signing for her bookNever Make The Same Mistake Twice at the Eso Won Bookstore in L.A. “Kim said I went too far, but for me it was just about having fun.”
“It’s very hard for me to be friends with someone who is not a real friend,” NeNe said. “If it wasn’t for our interaction on the show, we would have nothing to say to each other.”
In NeNe’s book, Never Make the Same Mistake Twice, she writes about her cast mates- the falling out she had with Sheree, who she says she has known for years. “I never expected to have the falling out with her that I did and on national television,” she writes.
NeNe says, though their lives are taped, certain aspects are off limits. “The master bedroom!” she jokes, before adding, “no, my husband is a very private person and that room is where we relax.”
Noticeably missing in attendance were Sheree’s fellow Atlanta housewives — Kandi, Kim, Nene, and Lisa. Trouble in paradise perhaps? “It’s just a working relationship,” Sheree explained. “We all have our different things that we’re doing. We’re not friends, but we are cordial.”
Stylist.com’sblog was able to get Sheree for a quick Q&A session, below are some excerpts -
StyleList: How does showing at Fashion Week in New York compare to having a show in Atlanta? Sheree: There’s absolutely no comparison. Being in New York for Fashion Week is like the ultimate. This is the fashion capital of the world so for me to be able to preview my line here, I feel like I’m on cloud 9. I need to go home and pinch myself, you know what I’m saying? Of course, my ultimate goal is to come back in February during the shows and do a full out presentation on the runway.
StyleList: How does your collection compare to Lisa’s “Closet Freak” collection? Sheree: Yeah, right … [laughs]. It doesn’t compare. I wish her well and wish her all the best, but it doesn’t compare.
You gotta love the cattiness. The clothes look a bit upgraded from she debuted in Atlanta back in May.
