Real Housewives Of Atlanta’s Kandi Burruss Dishes On Mama Drama!

The Real Housewives of Atlanta - Season 5

Real Housewives of Atlanta's Kandi Burruss has always been one of the more mild-mannered, level-headed, successful in her own right outside of Bravo members of the franchise. Sure, she likes to stir the pot every now and then, but she usually remains impartial and even tempered.

I was hoping we'd get to watch Kandi enjoy her engagement to fiancee Todd Tucker on this season. It would be a nice change of pace from Kenya Moore's fan foolishness and her overexposed text triangle with Phaedra Parks' husband Apollo Nida.  Alas, even Kandi's story line is tainted with negativity. I'd say she should leave the drama to her mama, but unfortunately, that's exactly what's happening!

We all watched Kandi's mother Joyce fly off the handle accusing Todd of cheating on her daughter. Even when he wanted to calmly set her straight over dinner, Joyce wouldn't entertain any of Todd's attempts at sane discussion. Instead she'd rather alternate between focusing solely on the dog and telling Todd he's a gold digger. It was actually one meal that seemed way more awkward than most of my family gatherings…and that is saying a lot! #lovemyfambutheyarecray!

Taking to her Bravo blog to dissect this week's episode and the current state of her relationship with Mama JoyceKandi writes, "Well tonight’s episode was a little hard to watch. So many of you tweet about how you think I should deal with my mom. I love my mom, and I will always give her the utmost respect. I know she can be a little tough, but I believe she really does want the best for me even if I don’t like the way she goes about it."

Of Joyce's requested pre-nuptial agreement (seriously, was it any of her business?), Kandi shares, "I’ve told her a million times that I’m not getting married without a pre-nup. Todd and I already agreed that we were doing one, but I don’t know why she feels like she has to be the one he negotiates it with. Todd did his best to not be disrespectful to my mom no matter what she said to him, which I’m thankful for, but he is more than a little tired of the drama though…" Can you blame the man??

The always rational Kandi realizes that it's a complex situation, and she addresses that with her fans.  Kandi concludes (love the blog brevity, lady!), "Everyone says stand up to your mama and blah, blah, blah, but believe it or not I do speak my mind to my mother. I just don’t say it in some crazy disrespectful way, because she is my mother. So to everyone who is screaming at me through the TV screen to 'do something about my mom,' I’m not sure exactly what you expect me to do. I can only say how I feel, and if she doesn’t listen to me, then what? I don’t agree with my friend Carmon on how she said she would handle it if it were her mom. I don’t believe in cutting off your relationship with your mom. So for now I’m just hoping that over time things will work out for the best."

I do too, Kandi.  I do too.
