James Kennedy Has Retired Calling Himself The “White Kanye”

The fate of Vanderpump Rules has remained in limbo since the coronavirus pandemic halted production. Pump Rules star Katie Maloney hasn’t heard a peep about the show’s status. The June firings of Kristen Doute and Stassi Schroeder for racist behavior was  long overdue, but still a shock.

In February of 2020, James Kennedy’s wish finally came true and he once again slid into SUR for his Tuesday night DJ gig. What is even more surprising is that his longtime enemy Katie sent her well wishes.

On July 5, 2020 James shared that he had one year of sobriety under his belt. He posted a sweet thank-you to his girlfriend Raquel Leviss on Instagram. “Thank you to my rock @raquelleviss for getting me here I couldn’t of done this without you my love. and thank you all for the support this past year,” he wrote. Since most of the Vanderpump Rules cast is coupled up, Raquel has made no secret of the fact that she would like to marry her DJ. But first Raquel wants her parents to give their seal of approval.

Now James is marking another milestone–he is retiring his “White Kanye” nickname. James told Page Six, “I’m just going to be James Kennedy— the best producer that I can be, myself. But his music still lives within me.”

James began calling himself the “White Kanye” in 2016 because he never doubted himself, much like his idol, rapper Kanye West. Even though James is retiring the moniker, he remains a huge fan of Kanye.

James is hoping to collaborate with his idol one day. James stated, “I’ve got a whole folder of stuff waiting for you, like my own Kanye West production folder.” Are you listening, Kanye?

So, what else has James been doing? He’s been working on new music. Last week, James dropped his first remix released by a major label, Atlantic/Spinnin’ records. The track is a remix to Jason Derulo’s “Coño” along with singer Puri and rapper Jhorrmountain.

“It’s a really fun track. Its bass boosted and it hits really good in the club, so I thought, ‘Why not remix it?’” James explained. He had been looking forward to hitting the road with his music but had to scrap his tour because of the Covid-19 pandemic. His big debut in Las Vegas had been scheduled for April.

“It’s just crazy to see how much the music world has had to adapt in the last few months. Of course, I’ve adapted with it,” James stated. “I’ve just been making music nonstop in my little cubby and been doing a lot of mixes and livestreams, as well.”

But James is looking forward to brighter days when he can perform for a crowd. “I’m really excited, though, for when the world does get back to normal and I can go crazy in the club again,” James commented.
