Eric Dane’s tragic death met with heartfelt tributes from former co-stars, including Nina Dobrev

Eric Dane’s family confirmed in a statement to Us Weekly that the actor died on February 19 after what they described as a “courageous battle with ALS,” also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

According to the statement, he spent his final days surrounded by loved ones, including his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14. The family also noted that Dane had become a “passionate advocate” for ALS awareness during his illness, and they asked for privacy as they grieve.

In the hours following the announcement, tributes quickly poured in from across Hollywood. Actor Nina Dobrev, who worked with Dane on “Redeeming Love,” shared a photo from their time on set and remembered him as a deeply kind collaborator.

“Heartbroken to hear about the passing of Eric,” she wrote. “He led with kindness and made everyone on our set feel seen.” Dobrev also referenced his diagnosis, calling ALS “a cruel and unforgiving disease,” and expressed hope that his story would encourage greater research and awareness.

Alyssa Milano, Dane’s former “Charmed” co-star, reflected on his personality and humor in a heartfelt post. “I can’t stop seeing that spark in Eric’s eye right before he’d say something that would either make you spit out your drink or rethink your entire perspective,” she wrote.

Other celebrities, including Ashton Kutcher, Maria Shriver, and Selma Blair, also shared messages of remembrance. Blair even posted a nostalgic clip from an early project they worked on together. “I love you. And yours,” she captioned her Instagram Story.

Reality star Phaedra Parks also paid tribute in her own way, referencing Dane’s beloved “Grey’s Anatomy” nickname, “McSteamy,” in a message that resonated with longtime fans of the series.
