Based on her social media posts, there are two key takeaways from Deavan Clegg’s life after filming wrapped for 90 Day Fiance The Other Way. The first is that Deavan is happy in a new relationship with Topher Park. The second is that she and Jihoon Lee had a much more tumultuous relationship than what was shown on screen. One that included alleged abuse of Deavan’s daughter Drascilla.

Deavan moved to South Korea for her second season on the show. Living in a foreign country was a lot more stressful than just navigating culture shocks and living with man that she was unable to communicate with. According to Deavan, she was treated as a “puppet” by the show management. In a recent social media post, Deavan revealed that this mistreatment led her to contemplate taking her own life.

Jihoon Lee was often apologizing to Deavan Clegg on 90 Day Fiance The Other Way. And her mother. She had the kind of aura that brought out the frantic in Jihoon, who was berated for not properly tending to all of Deavan’s shortcomings and disappointments. Granted, he did lie about his job and financial stability multiple times, but that doesn’t mean he is responsible for changing Deavan’s entire negative outlook on life. Also, Drascilla running into the street was so not on him. He was not her disciplinarian for three plus years.

Deavan’s social media indicated that she had already moved on from Jihoon in real time, before their wedding even aired. Maybe we could have hoped, for the children’s sake, that it had worked out between them. However, Deavan’s fight or flight mentality makes one question whether she had ever planned to return to Korea. Jihoon may have been immature and/or got a bad edit, but most viewers feel badly for him in lieu of the fact that he has not seen his son since Deavan returned to the USA.

This couples story line veered from just being entertaining TV to exposing cultural discrimination against same-sex couples. Viewers watched as Kenny, used to the progressive vibe in Florida, struggled to legitimize his relationship with Armando in Mexico.

Not only did they deal with Armando’s family struggling to accept them, but also legal discrimination when the courts refused to grant them a marriage license. Each encounter with Yazan is a power struggle regarding who will compromise what. Brittany is expected to adhere to Islamic life, while Yazan is challenged to appease his family. One wonders why either partner would want to change their life so much for the other. But Brittany says that Yazan struggled more with the contrast in cultures than she did.
