Based on her social media posts, there are two key takeaways from Deavan Clegg’s life after filming wrapped for 90 Day Fiance The Other Way. The first is that Deavan is happy in a new relationship with Topher Park. The second is that she and Jihoon Lee had a much more tumultuous relationship than what was shown on screen. One that included alleged abuse of Deavan’s daughter Drascilla.
Deavan moved to South Korea for her second season on the show. Living in a foreign country was a lot more stressful than just navigating culture shocks and living with man that she was unable to communicate with. According to Deavan, she was treated as a “puppet” by the show management. In a recent social media post, Deavan revealed that this mistreatment led her to contemplate taking her own life.
Kalani Faagata is the daughter of biracial parents. Her mother married a Samoan national, and Kalani did the same when she wed Asuelu Pulaa. Interestingly, she is one of the few 90 Day Fiance Americans that married a foreigner of their own heritage. They now have two sons that are also being raised in an American-Samoan household.
Kalani is a striking woman. It may be hard to pinpoint her heritage at a quick glance, but her beauty is undeniable. Unfortunately, Kalani has experienced moments when people have racially profiled her, not seeing her as an individual but as a factor of skin color.
Jihoon Lee was often apologizing to Deavan Clegg on 90 Day Fiance The Other Way. And her mother. She had the kind of aura that brought out the frantic in Jihoon, who was berated for not properly tending to all of Deavan’s shortcomings and disappointments. Granted, he did lie about his job and financial stability multiple times, but that doesn’t mean he is responsible for changing Deavan’s entire negative outlook on life. Also, Drascilla running into the street was so not on him. He was not her disciplinarian for three plus years.
Deavan’s social media indicated that she had already moved on from Jihoon in real time, before their wedding even aired. Maybe we could have hoped, for the children’s sake, that it had worked out between them. However, Deavan’s fight or flight mentality makes one question whether she had ever planned to return to Korea. Jihoon may have been immature and/or got a bad edit, but most viewers feel badly for him in lieu of the fact that he has not seen his son since Deavan returned to the USA.
Kenneth Niedermeier and Armando Rubio are the first male same sex couple in the 90 Day Fiance franchise. This couples story line veered from just being entertaining TV to exposing cultural discrimination against same-sex couples. Viewers watched as Kenny, used to the progressive vibe in Florida, struggled to legitimize his relationship with Armando in Mexico.
Not only did they deal with Armando’s family struggling to accept them, but also legal discrimination when the courts refused to grant them a marriage license. It was heartbreaking to watch, especially as Armando’s daughter Hannah picked up on the struggles her father had to endure in order to wed his partner.
Here we go again. Paul Staehle from 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After is back to the off-screen drama. Maybe forever this time.
Paul has never been too shy to run to the press with his latest sob story or other dramatic moment. I’ll never forget the disgusting kitchy scene he tried to make happen in the tampon aisle. I’m also starting to think the machete cell-phone robbery was completely fake. He does the most. It’s almost like he relies on the measly checks from the 90 Day Fiance world to pay the bills. What’s his job again?
There are couples that disappear into oblivion after one, disengaging season on 90 Day Fiance. Most of them do. The ones that gain viewer interest may get a turn on 90 Day Fiance Happily Ever After. Finally, top tier fame hungry cast turn their stint on the show into a long term meal ticket.
Colt Johnson and Larissa Dos Santos Lima come to mind. They split after one season together, but stayed with the franchise by dating other people on camera. These two were neck and neck in terms of gaming the system, but with Larissa’s recent termination, Colt is the last man standing. Yes viewers, Colt was spotting filming for a new season. What a boss.
“Ah, fresh blood.”- Dracula…. probably.
In a year that can easily be described as the most torturous rollercoaster ride in recent memory, we finally have some light at the end of this dark and dingy tunnel: a brand new season of 90 Day Fiancé! With the current season of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way in its denouement, trailers and previews of the upcoming 8th season of the OG franchise have been popping up on the network since early November.
And with a new season comes new couples! A wonderful mix of American love-seekers and their foreign flames who they’re hoping to eventually marry.
