Hmm. For the penultimate episode of the season, this week’s Real Housewives of Orange County sure felt strange. And honestly, I have to admit it feels quite odd to be recapping tonight given the chaos that’s happened in Washington D.C. today. Over the last 15 years, the Housewives franchise has often provided a much-needed dose of escapism from the horrors and headlines of real life. Tonight in the O.C., however, provided no such relief from the reality of a mob storming the Capitol in an attempt to overthrow the democratic process. But alas, here we are. And the recapping must go on…
I think my biggest issue with this episode of Real Housewives of Orange County is that it really just boiled down to a series of one-on-one conversations. Because of coronavirus restrictions, the women haven’t been able to congregate together since the trip to Lake Arrowhead. And really, they haven’t all been together since before the pandemic shut down production. Right? Since the cast trip to Palm Springs? So basically they’re left to talk in pairs, or film with their kids, siblings and significant others. None of which is particularly interesting on its own without a main storyline driving the narrative.
Unless you have been living under a rock, this past week has brought us one of the major entertainment scandals of 2020. As if it couldn’t get any more wild. The story involves Hilaria Baldwin, wife of Alec Baldwin, and the accusations that she is posing as a Spanish woman. Hilaria, born “Hilary” was born and raised in Massachusetts in case you were wondering.
Erm, Hilaria, has been out there saying she’s from Spain. She maintains that she has been back and forth between the US and Spain for years. It turns out her family does live there now, but she didn’t exactly grow up there. The devil is in the details and they are confusing to say the least. But one major thing that landed Hilaria in hot water was old footage of her with a distinctly Spanish accent. She even forgot the English word for cucumber in one clip. While the internet is busy skewering her, at least Hilaria has one housewife in her corner.
The prettiest mess there ever was. Erika Jayne’s split from husband Tom Girardi is some Real Housewives of Beverly Hills drama we’ve been asking for. Despite being the most watched franchise of 2020, fans are still begging for some intrigue from this cast. The gang-up on Lisa Vanderpump two seasons back followed by the communal Denise Richards drag has been exhausting. Erika to the rescue!
grifters Giardi’s have caught themselves in a pretty impressive bind. It started with Erika filing for divorce in November. Then we all learned about the renewed fraud allegations against Tommy. But it’s expensive to be Erika, and she has since demanded alimony from her elderly soon-to-be-ex-. Uh. Which part of this being burn victim and orphanage money does she not understand?
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City started off with a bang and has been on a roll ever since. The cast is the right group of people to revive a stale and formulaic franchise. Everyone on the show has been up front with their lives. This has been a welcome change from some of the other series. Namely, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, where they only focus on picking on one person for an entire season to distract from the real drama.
Jen Shah was open about essentially paying for her friends. Her staff are the only ones around as her husband is gone most of the time. Mary Cosby talked about the path to marrying her step-grandfather and running a church. Meredith Marks’ marriage is falling apart every episode. Whitney Rose discussed finding her true love, which included breaking up two marriages to get there. That authenticity is what makes this franchise so great. But the real “pioneer” of the show that has been getting noticed is the lovely Heather Gay.
You guys, I can’t get enough of Erika Jayne’s current drama. In case you missed it, it’s way more interesting than the last three seasons of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills combined.
First, Erika and longtime hubby, Tom Girardi, filed for divorce. Then it came out that they were being sued for allegations of fraud. One of the more despicable acts that Tom is being accused of is stealing settlement money from plane crash victims. Some thought maybe Erika was simply filing for divorce to protect assets. But it quickly became apparent that she had an axe to grind. In the form of texts from Tom’s mistress! Oh yes, this just keeps getting juicier and juicier. One would think with all this going on, Erika would be in hiding. Or at least trying to keep a low profile. After all, her name is being dragged through the mud, right along with Tom’s.
Real Housewives of New Jersey “OG” Teresa Giudice is living her best life right now. She split from long-time husband Joe Giudice after his pesky deportation to Italy. Before that, Teresa stood by her man through infidelity rumors and a stint
in jail at camp.
Teresa and Joe’s divorce was mostly completed in September, but the RHONJ stars are waiting for a court date to finalize the paperwork. Now Teresa has a new man, and she made it Instagram official.
Erika Jayne did not receive a Christmas miracle. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star has been navigating her biggest role to date. She is currently miles ahead in the race for ALLEGEDLY taking part in the most disturbing scandal any of the Housewives shows have seen. You’re welcome, Teresa Giudice.
Erika filed for divorce from Tom Girardi and kicked off a landslide of allegations against the couple. Tom and Erika are accused of embezzling funds from former clients in an extremely vulnerable position and now Erika is accused of trying to weasel her way out of it. In an effort to gain sympathy for ALLEGEDLY stealing money from plane crash victims, Erika decided to publish some receipts regarding her very troubled husband. After posting (and deleting) screen shots of text messages between Big Tommy and his supposed mistress, Erika is finding out that doxxing a judge didn’t get her very far in the court of public opinion.
If I am paying a lawyer thousands of dollars to clear my name, they damn well better not start asking stupid questions. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Erika Jayne, finally has a storyline. Unfortunately the story is Erika and her lawyer hubby ganked an enormous amount of money over the years from innocent victims and got busted. ALLEGEDLY. Erika hasn’t exactly contributed a lot of content aside from the occasional eyeroll since joining RHOBH, but it appears she and estranged spouse Tom Girardi are making up for lost time.
Bravo has no problem with a mug shot. They don’t care if you have defrauded the government. Hell, if you spend time behind bars, Bravo gives you a special show. So the question is, where does Bravo draw the line? Is there a line? Fans are getting ready to find out. Erika is on the hook for embezzlement charges with her husband. They are accused of stealing millions of dollars from clients Tom represented in trial. Erika was popped because her corporate account had a suspect deposit of $20 million, and everyone knows her music isn’t that popular. Now we’re going to court and Erika’s lawyer wants to know why she is being bothered with this mess. Really? Yes, really.
