The winner of tonight’s reunion of The Real Housewives of Potomac was a guy named Chris. You can choose which one, Big C or Little C, but both came out of this gathering unscathed which is not an easy thing to do. However, those with the last name of Huger or Darby did not get off so easy. We start back where we ended last week with Karen Huger falling apart backstage and Gizelle Bryant doing her best to comfort her. We saw this already, so let’s jump in when Gizelle gets back to the couch.
Gizelle tells the group that Karen feels alone because of her parents dying so recently and so close together. Gizelle feels terrible and gets teary just thinking about what Karen must be going through. Once composed, Karen returns and tells the group she doesn’t want any sympathy. Robyn Dixon speaks for everyone when she says that Karen deserves it, and Ashley Darby says to Karen that she’s sorry for her loss. Karen accepts their condolences with grace and it’s time to move on to something a little more fun.
Last night the reunion of The Real Housewives of Potomac kicked off with a huge downer that Karen Huger’s dad had passed away from Alzheimer’s Disease just two weeks prior to taping, and the funeral had been a mere five days earlier. On top of that, her mom had died just seven months ago, so it’s been a terrible time for Karen. When your husband owing millions to the IRS is 3rd on your list of problems, then you know emotions are running wild. She hung in there for a while, but ultimately it got the best of her.
Before we dive into the minutia of grievances these women have, and since all season I have compared them to high schoolers (and sometimes junior high), I’d like to start with my reunion superlatives.
The Real Housewives of Potomac season is almost over, but luckily we still have the reunion episodes to look forward to. Are you ready for part one of The Real Housewives of Potomac reunion tonight? They’re sure to be rehashing all of the best drama from the season, as well as some storylines that we wish would just go away already.
According to Bravo’s synopsis, “The ladies revisit this season’s emotional highs and lows, all while trying to mend their fractured friendships. Monique [Samuels] and Robyn [Dixon] finally get to the core of their rivalry, while Candiace [Dillard] reveals some intimate details about her relationship. Karen [Huger] sheds some light on her mysterious life, but the pain she is dealing with is too much to handle, and Gizelle [Bryant] proves to her that old friends are the best friends.
The season finale of the Real Housewives of Potomac left me with several questions: Where do Karen Huger and her husband Ray actually live? Will Ashley Darby ever poke enough holes in her husband’s condoms to get pregnant? Where was Monique Samuels all night? Did the producers throw this disjointed episode together last minute?
We pick up back in Great Falls where Robyn Dixon is dressed in full beard and delivering a pizza to Karen’s house while Gizelle Bryant and Ashley look on, laughing hysterically. Robyn gives the bell three tries before putting the half eaten pizza on the welcome mat and running back to the getaway car. Robyn admits that if someone rang her doorbell and she wasn’t expecting anyone, she wouldn’t answer either, so she’s not really surprised no one came to the door.
What do you get when half the cast of dress up as Wolverine, a guitarist for ZZ-Top, and Robert DeBarge and then hop into the Mystery Machine for a road trip out to Great Falls? It’s either a stroll through my childhood or the last five minutes of this week’s episode of The Real Housewives of Potomac. The ladies are back from France, they’re getting feisty, so let’s just jump into it.
Everyone seems to have a busy day planned. Robyn Dixon is closing on her fixer-upper in Hanover. Monique Samuels gets the breakdown of how the kids did while she was away. Candiace Dillard and her fiancé Chris are working on their wedding bodies with a trainer. Finally, Gizelle Bryant meets up with her hairdresser/ friend, Kal, for lunch.
Not everyone is cut out to be a Real Housewife. Even some of the women who get that opportunity just aren’t meant to last in the reality TV franchise. Will Candiace Dillard be a one and done on Real Housewives of Potomac or will she end up with a second season on the show?
Not if Robyn Dixon and Gizelle Bryant have a say. They are far from being a fan of hers. Even Ashley Darby– the “friend” who “introduced” Candiace to the cast, isn’t her biggest fan. And this animosity isn’t even strong enough to be entertaining. Candiace complained that she’s been ignored for the entire cast trip in France. That’s far from a compelling story line.
