The Simone Mashile and Tanner Sterback hookup on Below Deck last week brings to mind lowered expectations and the smell of stale vomit. It was out of left field that Tanner would pursue Simone since previously said that he was wary of crushes. Perhaps after Chief Stew Kate Chastain turned him down, Tanner chose to act on the only willing participant in close proximity.
Interestingly, this hookup completely overshadowed the fact that Courtney Skippon and Brian de Saint Pern’s relationship has progressed to sharing a bunk for the night. But, Brian is not one to kiss and tell so it’s a complete non-story. In contrast, Tanner has no bones about sharing the details of his physical encounter with Simone.
Rhylee Gerber showed up when the Below Deck crew needed her. Abbi Murphy split after her text message engagement. Tanner Sterback was coming off of an illness. Brian de Saint Pern was in bed resting after his leg injury and subsequent infection.
They needed Rhylee on deck, even though Ashton Pienaar, Captain Lee Rosbach, and Kevin Dobson didn’t care for her presence. Yes, Rhylee rubs them the wrong way, but she actually does her job, unlike Simone Mashile, for instance. Simone can’t even make an iced coffee. The crew had to be so grateful that Rhylee showed up when the team was crumbling, right? Apparently not, according to Rhylee, Captain Lee did not give Rhylee a portion of the tip from that charter.
Below Deck viewers have seen Simone Mashile struggle to cut fruit, open a wine bottle, make two-ingredient drinks, and carry plates. Yet, somehow, she secured the role of Second Stew. She has been miffed with Kate Chastain for not putting her on service as often as she’s been in the laundry room. However, Simone seems to have zero service skills. Even one of the (obnoxiously drunk) charter guests from last night’s episode carried out plates better than Simone ever has. This set Simone off. As sad as it was to see her crying in her room, I cannot help siding with Kate. Courtney Skippon is a way more competent stew than Simone is. Of course, she is getting more service opportunities.
Kate has been so patient and so nice to Simone all season, even though Simone seems to lack
all most of the skills needed for this job. Still, no one could blame her for putting Simone in her place when Simone “confronted” her during last night’s episode. Yes, I know this show is edited and it is possible that all of the footage of Simone coming through as stewardess is on the cutting room floor. However, that just doesn’t seem likely.
So much déclassé about last night’s Below Deck. Also so many jelly fish. Everywhere. Simone Mashile won some and lost some. She seems like such a nice girl, but unprepared to swim in the real world, and the sharks were circling!
Despite the explosive fight Rhylee Gerber had with Ashton Pienaar and Kevin Dobson over appetizers, the crew still decides to hit the bar. I’m guessing since they were arguing OVER APPETIZERS no one even got to the main course. Maybe the reason they all got so insanely drunk was the result of low stomach contents?
Although Rhylee behaved badly, Kate Chastain still sides with her. Why? It’s because Kevin is a giant obnoxious gob of obnoxious gobbiness. To whit, he is screaming nonsense at the bar and so hammered he can barely function.
Below Deck has become one of the hottest franchises on Bravo. People love to watch the glamorous yacht life and the drama between the crew. Captain Lee Rosbach is somewhat of a pop culture icon at this point. Unlike Captain Sandy Yawn, Captain Lee rules his crew with an iron fish. There is no room for BS, and you need to get your work done. It takes a strong person to work under someone like him.
Before Below Deck, the ruling franchise on Bravo was The Real Housewives. Think for a second and imagine what a crossover might look like. Imagine if Captain Lee hired one of the Housewives to work on his yacht. There is no shortage of Housewives to choose from, but some may lack the work ethic required. Luckily for inquisitive fans, Captain Lee is FINALLY revealing which Housewife he’d want to work with.
The charter guests from the last episode of Below Deck were out of hand. One of the female guests wore a mesh bathing suit as she made a play for an admittedly tempted Ashton Pienaar. Meanwhile, one of the guys continually sexually harassed Simone Mashile. He talked about “bending her over” in the bathroom and made additional comments about a garter she had on her thigh for a pirate-themed day.
It was so uncomfortable to watch as an outsider. I can’t even imagine how Simone felt on the receiving end of such lewd behavior. Captain Lee Rosbach chimed in on Twitter and I have to. be honest: he really put his foot in his mouth. He tried to backtrack and explain himself, but Twitter wasn’t having it. And neither was Simone, Rhylee Gerber, or Abbi Murphy.
