It’s been a little over two weeks since the faithful return of Real Housewives of New York City to our screens. New taglines and all! Since the break, fan-favorite Tinsley Mortimer has left the show and the city. The franchise has also had it’s lowest-rated episode in literal years. This week we watched the cast return to the Bezerkshires. Apparently, Jill Zarin was excluded from the trip by Dorinda Medley. Jill really has a habit of being excused from cast trips. *cough cough SCARY ISLAND cough* Sadly, I think we all would have much rather watched Jill and Dorinda grapple for the spotlight than Ramona Singer and Elyse Slaine fight over…I’m not even sure. How close of friends they are? Apparently it’s not that close, ladies.
It’s no secret that Ramona has always had a thirst for the spotlight on the show. In the previous episode, Sonja Morgan called Ramona out for always one-upping with “fake parties and fake friends.” This week Luann de Lesseps called Ramona the “queen of scenes.” She wants to make a scene and be aired doing so. Even Leah McSweeney claims Ramona tried to boot her off the show. I’m sure Leah’s “juvenile” by hysterical storylines irk Ramona to no end. Welp. Lu’s critique of the Ramona-coaster actually go beyond her self-recorded-at-home interviews.
The Real Housewives of New York cast members will head to Dorinda Medley’s home in the Berkshires for their annual cast trip. Will they argue about sleeping in the infamous fish room yet again?
It’s supposed to be a “relaxing weekend” away, but we all know that’s not going to happen. Ever.
Real Housewives of New York’s Jill Zarin was an original cast member and stayed on for four seasons. She chose to leave at the time, but has given clear indications that she wants to return. Viewers saw Jill on the periphery of last week’s episode, trying to charm her way into the group.
The main target was Dorinda Medley, who was having none of it according to Jill. Perhaps it was not the best time to charm Dorinda. She was in fine form at Luann de Lesseps Halloween party, seemingly taking over as hostess with a very passive-aggressive toast. Maybe it wasn’t the best night for Jill to ingratiate herself to Dorinda, as Dorinda was otherwise occupied with attacking Ramona Singer.
Well, Real Housewives Of New York is back with a vengeance! Did you guys miss them? More importantly did you miss me? Cause I haven’t written a Housewives recap in about a month and I’m worried I’ve lost my touch. Be kind, be gentle — love me. Treat me like production treated Jill Zarin last night.
Anyway, I don’t know if I like the choppy editing and zoom confessionals with bad audio, although I did love how Leah McSweeney just went full quarantine vibes by wearing a sweatsuit.
Speaking of Leah she goes out to dinner in China Town with her baby daddy Rob and their daughter Kier. This is so Leah can emphatically prove over and over again that she’s a real legit New Yorker, not some uptight upper east side wannabe maven.
After a hiatus, Real Housewives of New York returns tonight with a new episode, the first since Tinsley Mortimer announced her departure from the show.
It will be interesting to see who Dorinda
picks on argues with from this point forward.
The second half of Real Housewives of New York Season 12 has some major changes in store for fans. RHONY viewers have watched Dorinda Medley attack Tinsley Mortimer all season. Dorinda accused Tinsley of secretly dating Tinsley’s ex, Scott Kluth, and lying to the ladies about it. Dorinda also claimed that Tinsley didn’t share her real life with her co-stars.
Then Tinsley and Dorinda blocked each other on Instagram. Now Dorinda is left without a punching bag because Tinsley announced on the show that she was leaving RHONY to move in with Scott in Chicago. Maybe Dorinda should go take boxing lessons at the gym Leah McSweeney goes to? Just saying.
When Dorinda Medley first joined Real Housewives of New York, she was an instant fan favorite, with her hilarious one-liners and fun attitude. This season? Not so much. It was just so uncomfortable to see her (seemingly) going after Tinsley Mortimer. Even Dorinda herself admitted that it was tough to watch herself on the show this season.
Maybe things will get better in the second half of the season now that Tinsley is in Chicago and off the show. Or, perhaps, she will just misdirect her anger at another cast member, which seems to be the most likely scenario at this point.
It’s tough to join the Real Housewives of New York cast. The ladies hazed Tinsley Mortimer right up until she quit the show. They never gave Barbara Kavovit a chance. Surprisingly, they’ve embraced Leah McSweeney, torch/ravioli throwing, and all. But, then there’s Elyse Slaine. We never got a proper introduction. She didn’t get to share any of her backstory. All we know is that she’s Ramona Singer’s friend who’s hanging around a lot.
When Luann de Lesseps took her “first sip of alcohol” this season, Elyse was the only one who questioned her for doing so, given her past legal issues. Everyone ignored her, but Luann didn’t forget about Elyse chiming in.
