My dear Good Vibe Tribe, welcome back to Week 3 of Summer House. I need to start this week’s recap with an editorial note. Almost a correction, if you will. When I was watching last week’s episode, I had completely forgotten the very real fact that Hannah Berner has a boyfriend. A serious one. He’s a very handsome 44-year-old Irish comedian named Des Bishop. They’ve been officially dating since July of 2020. It’s a matter of public record.
This means Hannah and her boyfriend were dating throughout the entirety of filming for Season 5. Which is odd because she has yet to mention him. She doesn’t talk about him in her confessionals. We don’t see her calling him at night to check in. So far, there’s been no mention of him whatsoever. But if they were dating, it throws all this drama with Luke Gulbranson into question. I get a lot of what Hannah’s referencing has to do with last season and its aftermath. And her feelings are totally valid. But why does she care so much if she’s already moved on with someone else?
Hello Good Vibe Tribe! And welcome to Season 5 of Summer House! I’m particularly thrilled to be writing this recap because this is the full first season in the Hamptons we’ll be covering for Reality Tea! I’m an OG Summer House fan. I’ve watched every week from the very beginning. I even did a special recap of the Season 4 reunion last year. And I’ve consistently told friends, Twitter followers and anyone who would listen that it’s the most underrated show on Bravo. It doesn’t get nearly the love it deserves. And it’s managed to get better season after season while other, more popular shows (cough, Pump Rules, cough) have floundered and circled the drain.
I relate to these Housemates a thousand times more than the SURvers causing havoc in L.A. Maybe it’s because I’m a millennial journalist who lives in New York City, but these are my people. In fact, I’ve even had numerous run-ins over the years with former Summer House cast members just going about my day-to-day life in the city. I used to see Everett Weston on the train all the time around Union Square. One time, I bumped right into Lauren Wirkus as I was leaving the Nike store in Soho with a new pair of gym shoes. (She was lovely, so tall, and on her way home from a Fashion Week party. She was also more than willing to dish about how she wouldn’t be on the show for Season 3. The selfie we took was cute, even if she had to stoop down to my height for it.)
Right off the bat, we’re in middle of a New York City avenue with Amanda Batula and Kyle Cooke where they’re reading through his DMs with his alleged make out partner. I need an official count of how many infidelity rumors Kyle had to debunk on Summer House.
She claims to have never met Kyle and therefore this is just a rumor. Amanda forgives Kyle for putting her through yet another rumor of infidelity. They’re back on track to moving in together. Amanda seems like a smart girl. I’ll support her and her decisions, but if Kyle does anything to mess this up again, he’ll be hearing from me (in his DMs since he’s checking those regularly).
I know Summer House has been getting a bad rap this season. However, as each episode airs, I’m liking it more and more. This week, we pick up where we left off, at the Monte Carlo party, where a bomb has just dropped. Danielle Olivera spilled the beans to Paige DeSorbo about the latest Kyle Cooke cheating rumor. It’s hard to keep track of how many there have been at this point.
Lindsay Hubbard is pissed. I’m on #TeamHubbs here. It was not Danielle’s place to say anything, especially at a party where everyone is drunk.
Joy to the world – Summer House recaps are here! We know, we know… we’re starting these recaps a little late this year but better late than never right? We start off episode 7 of Summer House where we left off last week with the crew congregating at home after the St. Bart’s party. Everyone drank a little too much Whispering Angel (don’t they always?) and they all hit the hay right away. Despite his best efforts, Carl Radke and Paige DeSorbo are still going to bed separately. Carl 3.0 isn’t getting as lucky as he did in Season 1 and 2. Maybe his charm only works on Lauren Wirkus?
The morning after scenes are some of the best – those Big Brother type cameras always get the most candid moments like when Amanda Batula makes a “joke” about Kyle Cooke not lasting long. Reason #100 why we love Amanda and her sass. Speaking of Amanda, she and Kyle are biting the bullet and moving in. Kyle breaks the news they owe 22 THOUSAND DOLLARS before they move in. For many, that is more than the price of a new car but that’s NYC real estate for ya. After Amanda thinks about the 11k she owes, she suggests to the group that they should have a joint “Christmas in July” birthday party for Amanda and Jordan Verroi‘s next weekend. There’s nothing this group loves more than a theme party.
The original home from Summer House didn’t survive from Season 1 to Season 2 and neither did two main cast members and by that I just mean that their reality TV stardom is over (or at least halted). Unfortunately they will no longer be an official part of the show, but might just be hanging around with their friends.
That would annoy me if I were them, but I guess they have to take what they can get. And who knows if they were actually fired or if they quit for some reason. Most likely, it was the former, but you never know. Not everyone’s real career is suited for reality TV.
Now that the first season of Summer House is over, the cast members are free to talk about everything we watched and to share what else went down that didn’t make the episodes. Kyle Cooke and Cristina Gibson talked about all of the Summer House drama in a recent interview.
This included Cristina’s broken friendship with Lindsay Hubbard (a constant topic of conversation), her belief that Carl Radke used her as a scapegoat to get out of dating Lauren Wirkus, and her opinion that Stephen McGee is a bigger meddler than she was last summer. Kyle discussed his relationship status with Amanda Batula and provided some much-needed back story to their interaction.

I feel like Stephen McGee was everyone’s favorite cast member from the first season of Summer House– well except for Lindsay Hubbard and Everett Weston. They are not Stephen’s biggest fans and vice versa. As the newcomer to the group, Stephen wasn’t really involved in most of the drama. Instead he provided the fans with “that’s exactly what I was thinking” commentary in response to the group’s antics.
Even though the first season is (sadly) over, Stephen still has a lot to say about what went down last summer and since the show started airing. He shared his opinions on the cast’s love lives (including his own) and he even revealed who actually paid for the summer house last summer.
